I have played all Metroid games and all Shock games.
Neither Metroid Prime 3 nor Bioshock are FPS games. They are both Hybrids, and you need to play both this generation.
Ken Levine specifically said it's a shooter, period.mismajor99Exactly, they are calling it the shooter 2.0 for a reason.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think Metroid pretty much created the FPA genre.REVOLUTIONfreak
That would be System Shock. Though other first person exploration games came before it.

Sony called the Playstation 3 4D. I don't care what Ken Levine specifically says, Bioshock is a Hybrid.

So what? The focus is the shooting.Thats what I'd call it. Remembering Kings Quest I wouldn't consider this to have enough adventure elements.FPRPS= First-person role playing shooter?

I am looking forward to the sweet control scheme MP3 will hopefully be able to pull off... but lets not get too ahead of oursevles, the games is far from next gen or anything that wasnt seen in the last 2 games... and considering it has the only right to call itself and adventure because it has a bunch of static 1 solution puzzles to solve is pretty ignorant. Bio shock is realyl proving what this generation of gaming is all about.... It offers and adventure that you play on your terms... sure there are simple puzzles like hacking the security bots and turrets... but the puzzle and adventure is the game itself. With the ability to do pretty much anything you can think of to attack the big daddies, the replay is going to be crazy... so developing a battle plan is essentially a puzzle and this one has more then one solution... its not just run and gun.
In that case I guess it's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption VS. Bioshock. This should be an interesting game battle... FPA's are kind of rare to find anyway. Actually, now that I think about it, I think Metroid pretty much created the FPA genre, as I have certainly never heard of the genre prior to Metroid Prime.REVOLUTIONfreakFPAwas first mentioned by Nintendoto describe Metroid Prime..
Well it's easily determined by what the main element/s in the game are, outside of the first-person perspective.

If you don't like FPS's, than you won't like Bioshock. It's a just a thinking man's shooter, nevertheless, it's an FPS and will be classified as such.
Depends on what you define an FPA as....Myst, Buried in Time, and Last Express are considered FPA. So it all depends on how you interpret the terminology. I'd go with what the creator says though. ;)Ibacai
According to IGN The Darkness is in the category FPA, and I actually agree with that. That being said I don't think Bioshock should be classified as an FPS.
It's too smart to be a simple FPS. It deserves a better designation.
If you can so arrogantly label Metroid Prime Corruption "FPA" as if it doesnt deserve to dwell below with normal FPS games, then you can offer Bioshock the same honor, given it's the MOST HIGHEST REVIEWED GAME OF 2007 currently and every review has said it's one of the smartest games to come around (storyline and design)
