Given that Hard Drive space is so cheap and that Sony allows you to install any HDD in the PS3, I'm all for installations if it means quicker load times and smoother gameplay. I'm also looking forward to playing BioShock. Win/Win. Jared2720
And considering 360 versions have load times that are only slightly longer, HDD installs are phail:?

Install times are nothing..unless your an hyperactive 12 year old who just ate a pack of pixie sticks there shouldent be any problem with install time for grown people.

Sucks for anyone who's running lean on HDD space, but Bioshock is good enough to justify the big install...

I have 1980 photos, 2100 songs, 20 videos, 5 demos, Home Beta, and like 10 games that required installing, and i have 8 GB left

10 games...? Wow.. which games are those? :?

And what do you need 2100 songs for?

Maybe because he likes them. Why do you care? :| :| :|

You are right, and some times i made some partys on my place, and i have a nice surround sound conected via optical on my PS3, so thats the main reason.

And i have MGS4, RFOM, SpiderMan3, Blazing Angles, AC, HS, Haze, and i don't remember the other 3:P

EDIT: That required install

Hell YES!

I laugh at this being a issue for some people. As being a PC gamer before a console gammer i embrace installs if it helps the game work better.

If it didn't improve anything, I doubt the developer would make it mandatory. The effects may not be noticeable from a gameplay perspective, but they did it for a reason. Better with it than without it, for sure.

Jared2720

They can make a mandatory install and slack off coding the game. Just look at DMC4. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this were the most common reason for the install - cutting corners on programming. Why bother to finesse-program anything to stream seamlessly when you can just force everyone to install their games and have the faster load times of the hard drive do the work for you? Mark my words - you'll see a fair number of games out there which perform at best marginally better as a result of their installs.

This kinda sucks, but the 360 version was very buggy so perhaps this will smooth out the experience. I do like that the installs offer quick to no load times and such.

I'm glad I already beat the game, but this is kind of a bummer and kind of a good thing.

Huh? Very buggy? I didn't think the 360 or PC versions were really buggy at all...

I have the PC version and it had a lot of pop-in when a new area loaded. Other then that nothing else happened

no problems. i wish 360 had mandatory installs so we could do this too. i wonder how installing the whole game is going to stack up versus ps3 style installs.

That's why you upgrade! DUH! And it's cheap to upgrade. 500 gig hard drive for $120! It's a must to upgrade your PS3 hard drive.

At this rate even people who upgraded their PS3 HDD upto 500 GB will have problems when the PS3 supposely have a 10 year life cycle.

Now is this optional or mandatory? Most likely mandatory like always for the PS3 games.

You can delete other installs and keep the saves. Its as simple as that if you don't want to buy a bigger HDD.

Not ony that, but Sony will probably announce some type of switchable HDD from Sony as they see that that will be the "new" memory cards for this gen.

I remember when memory cards for the PS2 were $40 bucks, im prettry sure you can upgrade for that much. I think people make too much of a big deal on installs and space nowadays.

Um you know you culd always delete things... it's not mandatory to upgrade, it's just people choose to because they are out of room and don't want to delete anything. I have 40GB and delete when i am done with games. Besides the install will mean less lagg, slow loading times. The 360 may not have issues, it only means that the ps3 will be improved (I can't say by how much) in terms of framerates and loading times, other things like that.

Its nice that PS3 owners can install their games but mandatory installs? Thats usless and silly. Thats tellling me that the ps3 cant run the game and needs the hard drive to run the game for it. Its ridiculous that you HAVE TO install your games it should be a option not mandatory. Can the ps3 really run these games if it needs to be installed to the hard drive?

Thats the thing, people outside these forums don't know that they can upgrade their PS3 HDD, why should they. But they'll find out the hard way. Also if every PS3 game had a 5GB, trust me even people with 500GB HDD will have problems the first couple of years. Unless Sony continues to delay games and such, because the average console releases probably around 300 games a year. 300 games X 5GB = 1500GB within a year. That's crazy.

Well, there are these things called external HDD that you can buy and store your game data on those if you don't want to play a game. Most people do know that they can upgrade their HDD because it says right in the manual! Not all games are going to install to the HDD, and the PS3 has a HDD installed so why not use it.

Out of the current PS3 games library how many require installs ???

And how many people would keep the game data on their HDDs anyway. You're trying to prove a point without concrete facts, Every game doesnt require installs and every game doesnt require a 5gb install. So your point is invalid in this case,

Link?

Bioshock on 360 doesn't have framerate issues or long load times

not sure about the framerates, but it does have hick ups that last for a while. here is your link. in fact its a review by Gamespot http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bioshock/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary%3Bread-review&page=2

But the visuals aren't without flaw--the game has an annoying seizure problem that almost looks like a correctable bug. On some consoles, the game hitches up and totally freezes for anywhere from one to five seconds at a time, then proceeds as if nothing happened. It doesn't seem to be tied to any particularly noteworthy parts of the game, and it happened only after playing the game for hours; but once it started, it didn't stop happening--even after we began an all-new game--and it can freeze up two or three times a minute. It's not the end of the world, but it's extremely frustrating and one of the few knocks this game has against it.

How many people would take advantage of the 360 install to HD option?

You brought up the 500gb point first and they responded.

In fact this is pretty much a non issue. As people have said data can be deleted but the game save kept. Also what about the people that trade games often why would they need to keep old install data. If it isnt a hassle for people to swap disks it isnt a hassle for somebody to re-install a game if they wish to play it.

[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]IT'S ANNOYINGspike6566

So it's annoying to get better load times and framerates

I was just replying to his point "that if every game have 5GB and you have 500GB, you could install 100 games".

"Out of the current PS3 games library how many require installs?"

I already lost count.

"the PS3 has HDD installed why not use it."

You don't have a choice if it's mandatory.

dream431ca

For some games it's mandatory, and it's a good thing. I wonder why people take a good thing and spin it into a negative thing?

The 360 version of Bioshock didn't need installs, it was still a good game.

Of course. But it never hurts to exploit all the features of a particular system and get better performance :D

found you link btw.

It hurts the people who only have 20 or 40gb PS3's.

Installing a game on PS3 = Less frame rate issues and less loading times. And i guess anyone can wait for 10 mins.lesner87

Well I can wait the 15-30 seconds it takes to load an entire area on the 360 version and what frame rate issues do you speak of

Wow the PS3 has such an advantage! I mean this is uber amazing! The PS3 makes you install the game rather than that horrible 360 that lets you choose! This is why the PS3 is a super computer while the 360 is not.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'm buying this one. I don't see visuals being improved that much over the 360 version that I aready own. I really want the DLC, but it's not a deal breaker to me. I have 4 games, plus a demo or two, and my PS3 hard drive is filling up fast. It's kind of annoying, to be honest. I'm not going to spend money to upgrade the HDD and I'm not going to delete game data, as I never know when I'll get the desire to play a given game. I hate the mandatory installs and it may be a deal-breaker for me when it comes to buying this game for the PS3.

I don't really know if this is good or bad. We just have to wait for the game to release to see if the installs are worthwhile or not. If it nearly eliminates loading times, though, I will be so stoked.

"Journalists have now been getting to grips with BioShock on the PS3 and report back that the game has a required 5GB install which takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. But don't worry, there is some classical music to keep you entertained while the game installs..."

maxconsole.net

this game still interesting?

p.s. as usual, apologies if old.

Mystery_Writer

Cows "waited" for over a year and a couple of months for Bioshock, so im sure 10 minutes more of waiting won kill them.

Given that Hard Drive space is so cheap and that Sony allows you to install any HDD in the PS3, I'm all for installations if it means quicker load times and smoother gameplay. I'm also looking forward to playing BioShock. Win/Win. Jared2720

Yeah, I mean, if Capcom needs 5GB to give people two second faster loading, they should just totally go for it. Hell, Vampire Rain has a 4GB install, anyone want to explain that? Uncharted only has a temporary cache, so why do so many inferior games need these humongous installs?
