What they asked is if they should make a "Dragon Age Tactices", IGN likened the idea to being like that of XCOM and Fire Emblem, because both are in that turned based tactical role-playing/ strategy RPG territory.
@uneerezzs22324: Having visited the Bioware forums, they are generally more interested in pretend relationships than games. Very odd people. Very odd.
They'll dumb it down for their fanbase
How can you dump down XCOM? It's already almost rock bottom.

Yep original "UFO: Enemy Unknown" is the best "Xcom" game. The remake isn't bad, but it has no replay value at all, the original game was way more complex soldier stats meant something, shots could hit body parts and different body parts had different armour values, you could make aliens panic without using psi abilities.
All the game needed was a few bug fixes, perhaps a V.A.T.S style targeting system so you can choose to cripple instead of kill for aimed shots and a less random chance to hit, perhaps use any amount of time units to aim better or at the very least prevent friendly fire, and perhaps psi abilities to find hard to find aliens just to make it less irritating
It's a bit sad that the market demands simple games that don't last long.
No, the XCOM model works better for Mass Effect.
How about a reaper war game?
shiiiiiiet that would be amazing. With actual gore and NOT crappy UE3.5, ME fits the tactical combat of Xcom perfectly.

Considering XCOM did a Mass Effect like game with The Bureau.

xenonauts
and last time I heard they are making xenonauts 2, this time in full 3d engine, it maybe the definitive xcom 3.
No. This is the big problem with Dragon Age- it has never been its own thing. It has never had its own identity. The first game was supposed to be Baldur's Gate (and in the lines of those classic AD&D RPGs). The second game was supposed to be an action RPG (a bit like Mass Effect 2 was, but in Dragon Age's high fantasy setting). The third game was meant to be Skyrim. Now they want to go Fire Emblem/XCOM on us.
For f*ck's sake. Stop. Let the series be its own thing. Stop trying to chase trends. Stop trying to channel the big, popular game of the moment. Stop trying to ride coattails of other games- try to focus on what you are instead.
Of course, given that Dragon Age has never once been given the chance to actually develop its own identity, I imagine that is hard for them.
EA still following trends instead of trying to think of an original idea of their own...
Why don't you make a City Builder in the style of the amazingly popular Cities: Skylines ? Oh, wait, you had that and had to ruin it you braindead zombies !
this is not EA , actually it's Bioware that ran out of ideas again ,they're trying to copy other developers just like what they did in Dragon Age Inquisition which ain't nothing but a bad copy of Skyrim filled with radiant side-quests and cheesy characters, now it’s XCOM’s turn …. probably Divinity:Original Sin is the next
Since DA never had an identity of its own, how about you make them like a Dragon Age with Record of Agarest War/Agarest: Generation of War style mechanics. Make it a game with x generation of x amount of different main character. The descendant will look/voice differently (and have different inherent skills) depending on their parents/ancestors.

How is this not EA ?
MOH followed COD.
Battlefield followed COD.
Battlefront is a clear sign they lack any original ideas.
C&C, Simcity and Dungeon Keeper are three franchises ruined by following trends. Not really caring about what gamers actually want.
Fuse is another great example of EA not really knowing what they are doing or what gamers want.
Syndicate is another.
And now this.
Bioware knew people wanted a KOTOR 3... Yet instead they chose to make an MMO, why is that you think ? Riding a trend.

EA owns the IP , YES , but it's always the developer that make the final decision about how the game should be made , that's all I'm saying

Yes, you have a point: this is partly Bioware's doing.
But with all the examples I listed, EA isn't free from any blame either. They have a knack for ruining franchises and developers.
See the thing EA doesn't realize is: if you try and follow trends, you'll never be a trend setter.
EA doesn't seem to be interested in any money... They want all the money. And so that is why they go after trends: COD, F2P, MMO, ... Instead of actually listening to what gamers want.

I think we're lucky that they didn't go after Survival trend .... yet
I'd definitely play an XCOM/Fire Emblem like tactical RPG DA game. The gameplay style would suit the series perfectly. Hell, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. It'd be the first good game in the series.
I really hope BioWare is not just following trends again. Yes, Fates and NuXCOM 2 were pretty good. But you should focus on your own strengths instead of trying to ape far more experienced devs. Intelligent Systems and Firaxis have been doing these kinds of games for decades now.
BioWare needs to go back to setting trends instead of following them,
were all trend setters. When trying to follow up in someone else's footsteps, BioWare has always delivered an inferior product. Its almost like they just want to make another game instead of the next great product. This lack of ambition is hurting them.
@Maroxad: It's mostly with the Dragon Age series that they try to mimic already established successful formulas. Classic DnD with Origins, ME2 style cinematic storytelling with DA2 and Skyrim with Inquisition.
They're working on a new IP now, and I'm pretty excited about what it might be.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I think I would like a Dragon Age in the vein of Fire Emblem.

i already replied to you in the other thread but i don't want to paste it here again ;__;
Aw hell, here you go.
It would be perfect. Probably would be the best game in the series. The game and the formula fit perfectly. All they need to do is make a game exactly like Fire Emblem, call it Dragon Age, and they're done lol.

do you think they canceled Shadow Realm 4eva ?

Looks that way, unfortunately. It looked like an interesting concept.
The Dragon Age universe is one of the most generic/boring fantasy universes I've ever played in.... honestly..... not sure why it took off.... "lets mix a lamer version of lord of the rings.... with as many copy pasted dragons with different colour skins as possible" ....
Neverwinter Nights had far more going for it... but oh well...
Guess I'm getting too old for "army + big baddy = AWESOME FANTASY WORLD"...... spoiled by the Witcher series I think .... where stupid all powerful dragons that realistically would devour are race easily somehow wait in corners of the world to be killed using henchmen/minions/beasts instead don't exist....

Not really. Go try Hearts if Iron 3. Very tough/complex games are still out there if you want.
It's not like BioWare havent always been one to take established mechanics/ideas and reiterate on them. BioWare has been that way since BG2.
It can work in theory. The wartable missions--as stupid as the wartable was--penned some interesting campaigns that were better than what you actually do in the game - they were perfect for a tactics game, but it was left for some nonsense timer. Some of the combat zones had ladders ranged characters can climb up, chokepoints to hold, traps to avoid, things to interact with, moments of combat where your party has to split, pathing challenges etc. Simple stuff there that can translate into some tactics game without the conflicting design decisions going on with DA:I.
I doubt they will actually execute on it beyond some spin-off downloadable game. Which I personally wouldnt mind. Although it may seem like there's a popular tactics trend as of late. You're still looking at a handheld game and a PC game with a long legacy/following. Which I dont think is a good tangent to move a franchise that has a multi-platform audience who just wants a big cinematic fantasy game. Then there's the tactics audience who you're catering to that I assume, just hates BioWare where it be they've been burned by their game or just parrot what other people on the internet has said without playing them.
I think the worst case scenario is that we'll get some tacked on Turn Based Tactics mode shoved into the next main installment of Dragon Age.
I'd prefer them to make a tactical RPG set in their Jade Empire setting.
The Dragon Age setting has always been terribly bland, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
For those that enjoy these types of games I certainly hope they make it happen and its excellent. I hate turn based combat because nothing goes against my every instinct more than waiting to let someone/thing I am fighting have its chance to hit me.

Did you play the original Dragon Age?
