I bet half of you didn't even read the link. Especially everyone who responded in under 2 minutes.

[QUOTE="UnknownSniper65"]grunt = wrex miranda = ashley i can se why they said thisIts fairly well known that BioWare uses roughly the same outline to create their storylines.
Either way, it works.

Oh wow, not even close. Did you even bother to continue to have conversations with them or are you basing this purely on first impression alone?

epic FAIL. how do you get a robot in mass effect? when did mass effect have a wise mentor? I think he should of played the games
Mazoch
Actually I think Capt. Anderson fits the Mentor role rather well.
I agree, Bioware have a long standing tradition of having both characters and stories that seem very familiar to earlier Bioware games. I still love 'em and still play 'em but I do agree that there's sometimes a feeling of deja vu when playing a new Bioware game.
idk anderson as a mentor not really, in mass effect 2 he barely even has a part. even in the first 1, he did do a bigger part but I don't remember him being even that helpful...till the end.
deja vu really? what bioware game is like mass effect 2, its not the same as the first one. and not even close to kotor.
but really its clear that they never even played mass effect 1 or 2...or most biowares games, since all of them that i've played, you can change your sex, skin color, and hair.

[QUOTE="Revan_911"] Not so blatantly that it insults my intelligence. Oh look an ancient evil has rose DarkSpawn/Sith/Reapers and you become a part of a special group Warden/Jedi/Spectre during which you put together a team, visit four locations, foil an assassination attempt, and ultimately save the world. Correct me if im wrong here.Revan_911
well **** lol, here we are talking about character archetypes and how personalities, motivation and overall story arc can change widely within a single archetype
but sure they're the same in basic single-sentence plot form, but they're nothing alike in backstory, detail or consequence
It's the same story, one set in Star Wars universe, other set in LOTR Rip off universe, and third set in a Star Trek/ Star Wars rip off universe, you are being too much of a Bioware fan to realise the truth.]]to be fair,George Lucas ripped off a couple things from Frank Herbert's Dune series for Star Wars...Sci fi doesnt start and end with Stars Wars or Star Trek ya know?
And I wouldnt really call it a Star Wars/Star Trek ripoff...ME1&2 has more in common with Buck Rogers,Battlestar Gallactica, and Cheesy "so bad, they're good" sci fi flicks from the 80's...if anything.

played and beat both games. how are they not similar? That was a pretty low brow article to be honest. Anyone who has made many RPG with multiple characters you could probably apply such a basic formula to. What a piece of garbage article and nothing but.
PS. That shot at Canadians was in poor taste and rather ignorant. I am guessing the author is overweight from big macs and is suffering from type 2 diaBEETUS.

Do you even know what cracked is?
Nope. I disagree completely. There may be some surface similarities between character archetypes, but at the end of the day Bioware has some of the best, most memorable and unique characters out there.nocoolnamejimIndeed, if we base on surface similarities, we could make the same argument just about any games.

I read the article not the site...upon further investigation however...
It is apparently a humor site, doesn't change that fact that the "joke" (instead of article, this is clearly FUNNAY!) is low brow. Canadian joke was still dumb.

It's still a somewhat funny article that got a couple of chuckles out of me, but I could write better satire in my sleep, come to think of it. BTW, wouldn't Miranda fit into the Morrigan/Bastila Shan/Aeribeth void?lets see... considering umm... the loyalty missions... 5 of the characters had similar freaking family related crap sub-plots... I wouild agree yes....Birdy09Considering that you were going on a suicide mission, it kind of makes sense that you'd want to ties up loose ends with your family.
And how are:
Miranda, Jacob, Samara, Thane & Tali's even remotely similar except for the fact that they involve family members? They are all completely different. And for a game that people whine about being a shooter, two of them involve NO SHOOTING AT ALL.

played and beat both games. how are they not similar?Well for starts, with Wrex and Grunt
Grunt's development is findinghis own identity and meaning in life. He revels in violence.Wrex is far more down to earth, wanting the Krogan to step back from being mercenaries in order to repopulate their species. Their personalities are nothing alike.
As for Ash and Miranda
While they both share Pro-Human independence ideals, Miranda is socially isolated because of her background. Supports the concept that the ends justifies the means, not caring about the after effects of Cereberus' actions. Ashley's Pro-Human side is linked to her family getting blacklisted. While she has her prejudices, she doesn't allow it to control her actions her cut herself off from everyone around. So in summartion, Miranda's story is based on how her father tried to control her life while Ashley's is dealing with her prejudice against aliens because of how her family was blacklisted.
So yeah, you can say one character = another going strictly by a basic archetype, but when you actually see the stories, the similarities start to fade.
