[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] I normally would go with something like "this is the stupidest thing you've said", but in your case that's f*cking hyperbole. But needless to say that's stupid. The genre you work in should not justify bad story telling or plot points. Their games are padded, fillered up, and fairly inconsistent from beginning to end.
And it certainly doesn't justify what I suffered with Max Payne 3. It's like they actively went out of their way to disrupt the players enjoyment of the game.jg4xchamp
Yeah a little bit of hyperbole. But still, it's like a known fact that open world games simply can't tell stories like linear and cinematic games. They don't have that benefit of being able to guide the player along this intricately paced storyline because that goes against what a open world game is all about. Like I said, Rockstar does a pretty damn good job though all things considered.
But that's not even remotely true. An Open World game is just a sandbox. Their narrative, their story is as liner and cinematic as the pieces of sh1t you like. They just come off completely oblivious to the concept that their game and story should be something cohesive. You have a lot more impact on how Planescape plays out, but the story in that game(under the "good for a videogame story umbrella") is better than what the vast majority of linear circle jerks that get praised for the "stories" they tell. So again that's a sh1tty excuse for not delivering. Shoetime shows being lame by the end of their second season doesn't excuse Homeland for falling apart in the second season. It just joins a special group dedicated to f*cking up.
It's just what my experiences with games have taught me over the years. Typically pacing and storytelling in linear games >>>>> open world games. Batman Arkham City is the ONE exception, but that's probably because I loved that f*cking game so much that I barely screwed around in it and just went from checkpoint to checkpoint. I was so hooked.
