I didn't want to believe it at first but Call of Duty: Black Ops is just the complete package for anonline FPS. Only being held back by it's servers, BO offers so much multiplayer content that it's no wonder why it's so popular. The formula is just very fast, which is a huge deal. I tried to believe that BC2 was better but it's just way too slow. It's all about instant action and most shooters have you constantly running to the action.

No one wants to spend the majority of their time running and waiting to respawn, they just want to kill things. That's what the COD franchise does best. I'm not saying BO will be timeless and still be good in 2-3 years but as for right now, no onlineFPS can compete.

I do believe MW3 will be better though. Only because it will be the newest one.

It really isnt, its the same thing Ive played since CoD4 only even less balanced, even more pointless filler content. Battlefield 3 is going to absolutely destroy it. Bad Company was a silly hybrid of the BF and CoD series, it lost most of its charm in that respect, but I would take large scale tactical battles with a variety of classes and vehicles over going around the same corners every second shooting people down until your shot in the back by a terrible spawning system. So much content, too bad the majority play Team Deathmatch only, most of the other modes are garbage =/

I desagree. Bad Company 2, Halo Reach and Left 4 Dead 2 are far better online games in my opinion.

BC2 slow? Having to wait for respawn a bit is very good actually. It encourages more tactical approach than just silly run and gun. I would like Black Ops but the horrible, almost constant lag (more or less) really kills almost all enjoyment from it.

I disagree, Black Ops is fun, has great graphics and is very fun with friends but there are many FPS's that are better in my eyes (TF2, COD4, BC2, BF2, Counter-Strike Source all come to mind).

actually, halo reach totally destroys BLOPS feature wise. With a whopping 23 playlists, with at least 2 game modes in each, i would estimate Reach has about 65-70 game modes. Reach also has excellent custom games, firefight, forge, and theatre mode(which is better than BLOPS).

And Halo Reach has better gameplay than COD anyway. I could name many FPSs better than BLOPS, though it is fun.

Lacks deep, complexity and teamwork. As puere skill game, Counter Strike and UT/Quake are better. Compared against BC2, seems that every game mode is just "team deathmatch". Is much more "superficial", doesn't require a balance between infantry, ground and air vehicles, and seems that the game has no purpose aside casual matches. Also, technically is outdated compared against the competence, and in terms of gameplay offers nothing new (basically is the same game as MW 1 from 3 years ago). Has also some big problems with the netcode, and some design aspects, as the insta-kill knifing are annoying.

So, no, is far for being the best in terms of skill demanded, teamwork required or just fun, but I'll conceed that is the most popular shooter, currently.

No. The zombie mode is fun but the multiplayer is nothing more than we've seen before. COD4 was a good mix of hectic arcade shooter action and balanced gameplay but the series has gone crap after that. MW2 was THE biggest disappointment I think I've ever had in gaming.

The aim assist (on consoles) ruins the game completely, it's pretty much auto target. On PC (the version I own) there is hardly anyone playing multiplayer (in Australia New Zealand, there are more people playin COD4). The only game modes there are people playing are S&D, domination, TDM and gun game. Zombies is still very popular because it requires a lot teamwork once you get to levels 25+ unlike the multiplayer.

Demolition and Sabotage are just 2 Counter-strike clone modes that are completely and utterly unblanced on the majority of maps due to abilities/perks/killstreaks and worst of all respawn times being so low, so i I very much disagree. CTF ... well a standard mode that was much better in arena style shooters (Quake 3, Unreal Tournement) so again, just a tacked on mode in a shooter that it doesnt excel in. Again, it suffers from the same syndrome all console shooters do, heavily geared towards small Team Deathmatch to the point where everything else is half assed, and is one of the reasons why the genre isnt expanding (online wise) outside of this craptastic over used comfort zone.

I finally got to play Reach for the first time recently as my friend let me borrow it. My BLOPs skills really paid off in Halo though when I became a baller as soon as I began. Though alot of fun, Reach doesn't have the staying power of COD

Black Ops (like most CoD games) is very accessible for newcomers and thats what makes it so popular. There is almost no learning curve at all. The drawback is that you will never feel like you got any better in the game. Thats why for us old wolves that played Counter Strike with their teammates on LAN tournaments and were masters in it, Black Ops multiplayer is completely unrewarding, uninteresting, flat and pointless. Not that its singleplayer would be any better.

I never said that it was originial, it just does these things better than most games. Allbeit some games may excell better in certain areas but BLOPS does everything well. Hell, I didn't even mention Zombies, that feature alone makes it a hell of alot more fun than Left 4 Dead 1/2 which was enjoyable for about 30 minutes

Yea yea, more like its cool to like whatever is popular no matter its quality. see how easily that is spung? "buh buh teh sales" ... yes.... to gamers that barely game and chavs and bro gamers. big whoop. Your arguement is basically the "sum of its parts make it better than many other shooters" despite games like Halo and Unreal Tournament offering more. ontop of this multiplayer culture especially on the competitive side of things, you know the games warranted the most skillful are ones with a lack of variety (Counter-Strike, Quake, DOTA style games" ect... why? because theyre not unbalanced crap thrown together to reward peoples brains for doing simple things. The guy you are claiming is biased is right, you can be as good as you like in CoD, youl end up dying to something ridiculously underserving often (Spawn behind you, sill killstreaks, nade launcher ect) but thats somes up CoD's multiplayer completely, all flash little substance.

No he's saying for anyone half decent you jump in and own instantly, without actually slowly learning, getting better and earning that sense of accomplishment like in CS. Black Ops looks like fun, I might get it after going over to a friend's house and playing it. And btw, true to that theory, without having even touched Black Ops before I jumped in and smashed everybody.

Because FF13 lacked alot of elements that made the previous final fantasies great (pattern?), and GTA 4 lacks the fun/whoa value in its world and missions beyond realistic graphics. (pattern) I hope the pattern is imerging for you because CoD BO and the likes fit into that perfectly.

Though alot of fun, Reach doesn't have the staying power of CODUtensilman

Definately going to have to dissagree with you right there. If the past Halo's are any indication, they have the most staying power out of all the console games. Halo 3 had a strong run for 3 years until reach came out. Since Reach is Bungie's last halo game I expect it to keep going until the new 360, and even after that. In fact cod's have traditionally had the shortest staying time. Thats b/c they release a new one each year, and basically the whole cod community shifts to the new one. The only cod that has had a long active community was COD:MW on the pc. cod:bo on the pc had the potential to have the staying power of cod:mw, but they really messed up and the performance is terrible. Also with big titles like UC3, BF3, Skyrim coming out later this year along with a new cod, I don't expect cod:bo to last long

I understand that this is your opinion, but my opinion of yours is that you need to be slapped in the face for that statement. In no way is Black Ops the best online FPS (keyword) EVER (/keyword) ! Absolutely no way at all! The content is all rehashed stuff from last 4 other CoD games.

I like the way you think.

No, it's one of the worst. And barely anyone will be playing it within 2-3 years. Considering 2-3 more CoDs will be out by then.

[QUOTE="gamedude234"]

actually, halo reach totally destroys BLOPS feature wise.

I finally got to play Reach for the first time recently as my friend let me borrow it. My BLOPs skills really paid off in Halo though when I became a baller as soon as I began. Though alot of fun, Reach doesn't have the staying power of COD

how in the world did playing COD a lot help in Halo? They are too very different shooters.

And did you just use "COD" and "Staying power" in the same sentence? The only one which didn't die a year after its launch is COD4.

if youre talking this gen, of the top of my head I can come up with 2 games with far better multiplayer. killzone 3 and unreal tournament 3. hell, "homefront" has better multplayer than black ops.

Also with big titles like UC3, BF3, Skyrim coming out later this year along with a new cod, I don't expect cod:bo to last long

heck, around 100-300 thousand people were playing halo 2 before MS shut it down. Plenty of people still play halo 3 now, and Reach is pretty popular.

I strongly disagree.
