BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (GS) review: 8.0

This is to let everyone know that GameSpot has recently posted the reviews for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and gave them 8.0 scores.

Review summary:

The Good

* Terrific roster with incredibly varied characters
* Very deep fighting mechanics
* Beautiful and distinctive visuals
* New Tutorial and Challenge modes make the action more accessible
* Great online competition.


The Bad

* Still daunting and difficult for newcomers
* Weak storytelling
* Only three new characters.

Cool, liked the first one, seems this one is great too.

Still can't wait. I felt this game was criminally over looked last year. Hopefully newcomers will be attracted to it. Gonna pick this up w/ a friend in two days

Weak Story? Difficulty?

I can agree with being miffed at only 3 new characters, but I've heard the opposite in regards to the other two cons

Blazblue is easy to get into compared to other fighters, dunno what they mean by difficulty, well I'm not surprised, that GS On the Spot for it was atrociously bad.siLVURcross

Honestly from what I played of the first... I thought it was easier to get into. I just couldn't find a character I would stick with. Maybe this one has a character I like.waynehead895

EDIT: And I do believe the difficulty they're talking about is the amount of things to learn, which can be pretty overwhelming in BB.

Good Score for a Great Game!

I'm going to be honest the story BB and the dialouge for it is leaps and bounds above any other fighter out there. So I don't see how them actually attempting to have a story other than street fighters, hey lets have a tournament, because appearntly evil organizations love tournaments. Anyways, its a great game so far a lot added in the single player mode to keep people interested and they changed the characters around a lot. Bang is so different right now. Its fun learning him again but I am eagerly awaiting makoto.

Just bought Blazblue CT, Tekken 6 & SSF4. BB:CT is the most daunting at the moment, though I haven't spent much time with it. Was a load of fun with the 20 minutes I did try it out though, but I'll try to get some experience with SSF4 & Tekken first. I'll definitely be picking up BB:CS when it hits Australia.

I tried doing the opposite, getting experience from BB and applying it to SSF4. Didn't go well...

I didn't get a chance to get the first BlazBlue. Is Continuum Shift an entire new game or just an add-on with lots of add-ons, like SFIV and SSFIV?

3 new ready-to-use characters, plus 3 additional new ones as DLC, revamped gameplay, and a continuing storyline.

I wonder why SSFIV has tons of new characters, new moves, etc. and it's called milkage. Blazblue sequel has 3 new characters and no one complains?thecreechxxx

The cons make me rage somewhat. The story is easily the best of all fighting games out there and I am far more drawn into it and its characters than most games, the game is arguably MORE accessable than SSFIV (I have friends that got into it easily but have trouble with SSFIV), so that argument is basically invalid. Last but not least, the 3 characters complaint. I believe this is the most valid of the Cons but it doesn't matter to me personally as they are all so unique + dlc characters coming (one next week in fact).

I'm ok with the score but I sometimes wonder what the reviewers are thinking when they write what they do.

Wasn't sure if you were serious or not. That's why I deleted my post. :P

only con ill give them is the 3 character thing. Also this game has been tweaked and some combos dont work as well as they use to so you gatta learn new tatics for characters. I guess ssf4 got a higher score since they just added a bit more then bbcs. At least when it comes to characters.

Well it comes to GG and BB the devs just tried to expand the universe within the game insted of doing comics or books. Which works actually pretty well for GG and BB. You have a sense more is going on then people beating on each other. They usally have the more beefy sp componets when it comes to fighters.

The problem I have with Street Fighter's large roster is that many of the characters are too similar to each other in terms of fightingmethods (a phenomenon some people call "Shotocloning") that you almost can play them in just the same way.

Blazblue's small roster is made up for by the fact that each character is unique enough for completely different gameplay that you won't need so many characters.

Gamespot doesn't know how to rate fighting games, it should of got a 9.

The bads are really weak, but whatever. Also, it's a sequel, stop calling it anything else. New story, new modes, new characters. Yes, there are only 2 new characters, but people need to consider how much variety there is for each character.

Hazama, Tsubaki and Mu are the new characters that come with the retail version. Other characters(+3-4 characters) are inbound via DLC.

I love the first one so this is probably a buy for me. Also after looking over the good and the bad, the bad doesn't seem to be bad at all for me.
