Blizzard is an example of why 'waiting' is a good thing.

WTF he of all people should be talking. SONY literally killed 2D gaming as of giving devs a hard time if not won't let them at all make 2D games on the PSone.

One game =/= revival/sustainment of a genre.

This was before his time. He doesn't know.

Also what's beter Planescape: Torment or Final Fantasy VI?

Planescape: Torment. FFVI's greatness is in story, but Torment has story AND gameplay. FFVI is bigger and longer, though, and has better music, while Torment has better art.

Little big planet? 3D 2D is the new 3D.

Again, one game =/= revival/sustainment of a genre. Can you name more than two 2D games released each year since 1994? Or even since 2001?

Yes a downloadable game. Totally fufills that true Super Metroid sequel I've been dying for.

Ah, I never catted to WRPG's, I pretfer the superior story and combat systems of JRPG's instead of the exploration and character development of WRPG's. Personally I never like FFVI though along with Super Mario RPG.

Take that up with Nintendo. They made Paper Mario, and Metroid's still their property... so, why be angry at Sony? Looks like Nintendo opted out on you.

Also: Flow. Contra (the new one). Disgaia 1 and 2.

Pretty sure there's more I'm not thinking of. What does downloadable have to do with it? It's a full game, and it's supposedly very fun. How does the matter of acquiring a game make it any less worthy of answering your question?

It wasn't even officially made by Blizzard, nor was it liscened under the same name. It was made by Sierra Entertainment and was just called Hellfire even though it was an expansion. >_>mjarantilla
I liked Hellfire :P.

That would make two games, actually. 1 + 1 = 2. I didn't realize there was a per year quota I had to meet to make your point that Sony has 2D games on their systems invalid.

First, I didn't make that point, someone else did. Second, yes, there is a per year quota. Releasing two 2D games over fifteen years doesn't exactly support YOUR argument that 2D gaming is alive and well on Sony platforms.

More like undead. It's not alive, but the fact that they're still being made and some are considered to be classics, or AAA (see Disgaea) and are loved by mainstream gamers would signify that it's not entirely dead, either.

It's dead. Deader than the adventure game genre, and that genre's been dead for a while. (Though it's had a revival most recently.)

Any platforms, not just Sony's. Also, scroll up. I listed 4 more. 6 in fifteen years, at least. Like I said, there's probably more I'm not thinking of. Also, fifteen years is inaccurate. The PSOne was released in 1996 in Japan, which would be 11 years. Not fifteen.

How many has Nintendo released? 2? Microsoft? None?

So, Sony killed the genre. Yup. After all, the company that saved gaming's ass is DEFINITELY supporting it. What with released 2 games in... how many years has it been for Nintendo? 10? I think Sony's winning this one out. If anything, Microsoft is the one killing it. So far, they're ahead in next-gen console sales and haven't released a single one ever. And no Xbox Live Arcade doesn't count, nor does VC. Those are old games run on new systems, unlike Sony actually having (at least) 6 new releases in the last 7 years.

Only because of Nintendo with the Wii and Atlus having publishing balls.

Blizzard is Blizzard. They're in a league of their own. They can make a game based on a 2000-era 3D engine, release it in 2004, and GameSpot will still give them a 9 or even a 10 in graphics (yes, I'm talking about WC3 and WoW, and even SC2 to an extent). Not even Kojima has the talent that Blizzard has at making games that are worth waiting 3, 4, even 5 and 6 years for.

mjarantilla

Blizzard excels in art direction and not in the technical aspects. I've seen very few MMORPG's that have something else than barren landscapes to offer.

Thing is though, Blizzard is just one developer. They can only make so many games, so you can expect to wait. The PS3 is an entire console though, with lots of developers supposedly backing it, so with that in mind, games should be able to be released more quickly.

All those PS3 bashers out there, your 'waiting' argument has no affect.

One of Blizzard's philosophy behind their development is "it's done when it's done." So even though I'm enjoying the games right now, I have no qualms over waiting for great releases for the PS3. The longer the wait, the better the game gets.

You can have your rushed, low production games all you want. I'll just wait until Kojima shows the world how it's done then the developers will start the spark.

:| Wow one multiplay amazing.

You must have forgotten how SONY refused to have Mega-man on their consoles unless they got extra features. How they refused from countless small developers 2D games. How they hyped the industry that 2D was just flatout "inferior" to 3D.

Can you quit your blind lies? Megaman 8 Anniversery + Megaman X 3-6. The only Megaman games in 3D were the two Megaman Legends. Sony doesn't tell developers what to do. If you think Capcom didn't make 2D games, then its their problem. Oh wait! All those 2D fighters they made for the Playstation.

Sony never forced anything on the developers. Where it is known that Nintendo whipped the developers so that they flocked to Sony's console.

That's really a valid point. Greg Kasavin reviewed both of those games, and guess where he's working now?

Which is why Blizzard is my favorite game developer. They take forever to make a game, but when it comes out, you'll be playing it for the next 10 years anyways. Starcraft 2 still has no release date? Who cares, I'm still playing the first one.
