https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2025/02/bloober-team-partnering-with-konami-once-again-following-silent-hill-2-success

Developer Bloober Team has announced it will be working with publisher Konami on a new project following the huge success of the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Writing on its official website, the Polish studio states it's now working on "a new game based on Konami's IP", though stops short of saying which.

"The trust built upon the success of SILENT HILL 2 laid the foundation for signing another agreement for a new project," reads the statement. "The deal aligns with Bloober Team’s strategic plan to expand its internal development division within a first-party framework."

Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team CEO, says the team "can't reveal too many details at this time", but is "confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are", calling it "something truly special".

Given the quality of Silent Hill 2 and Bloober's area of expertise, it feels like a given that this mysterious new game will be another Silent Hill.

However, the statement doesn't specify beyond Konami IP, so theoretically it could be anything within the publisher's dusty back catalogue. Anyone up for a nightmarish new take on Frogger?

Anyway, whatever it is, Bloober Team has said it's "done making sh*tty games", so hopefully it can live up to that claim in the wake of Silent Hill 2.

Thoughts, SW? Are you excited for another Bloober/Konami game? They did an amazing job on the Silent Hill 2 Remake, so count. me. in!

Bloober is becoming Konami

I'm ok with that, SH2 turned out amazing (I wish they would add VR support!)

I despise remake culture. I'm done with it. The games didn't "age," your expectations did. The players want everything to conform to the same tired modern standards. We could be getting new games, but the studios waste too much money and have too many shareholders breathing down their necks, making them cowardly. Game design has become so cowardly. That they remake the most popular Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid first tells you how cynical the decision making is.

I asked myself if Leon {S. Kennedy} really took up so much of the screen in the original {RE4}. I turned the original on and found that he did. I accepted it back then, and I could surely get into the game again. Played it again after the HD texture project was completely and still really liked it. But it makes me mad that I keep having to use this camera in so many games. He takes up so much central space even before the intense zoom when aiming with the right mouse button or left trigger, with no shoulder swapping, and the excuse I've seen some people make about people not being able to shoot as well with their offhand is dog shit. The characters could still hold the gun the same way, only the camera would be on the other side. Makes working the corners so crappy, way crappier than it would be for them.

Makes sense given the success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Look forward to playing it myself someday. Probably going to be another Silent Hill game I would imagine.

SH2 was an excellent remake, but I don't think Bloober should be relegated to solely remakes. Hopefully Konami can work with them and expand their repertoire.

@warm_gun: Really? When I really enjoy a game I could easily play it over and over. I'm happy when they make different versions of games I like or add some new polish. It's optional for me anyway but I don't mind having the option.

Also for new audiences, some don't want to put up with certain conventions that have aged badly. It makes the game inaccessible for them. Sometimes getting a hold of the original version and playing it properly is difficult too. For them they might not even play the game ever if it wasn't for the remake.

Quite a redemption arc for both Konami and Bloober. Konami finally making a comeback after a decade, and Bloober finally proving they're not a trash dev. Turned out to be a lucrative collab for both parties.

Honestly, I don't know why so many were even doubting SH2 remake. It's a remake one of the GOAT horror games. It's not like they were creating something from scratch... But that's where the problem lies for their future: having to create something from scratch is a whole different ball park. So my guess is the next project is more likely to be another remake.

They were doubting because of Bloober's rep at the time. There's a reason Nintendo has been hiding the devs until a projects completion, lately.

It’s not difficult to mess up a game remake. It can be done in a whole variety of ways from technical to artistic to atmosphere and feel.

No, Bloober had a bad rep from The Medium saying it was a SH spiritual successor and that game wasn't as fun and it was forgettable. Most were doubting they couldn't pull off for SH2 but it reality, they did well. So of course most of us were having doubts against Blooper.

@warm_gun: I like remakes.

It's nice seeing a creative interpretation (in the case of Black Mesa) or a one-to-one remake (like System Shock), either by a different studio or a mostly-new crew at the same studio.

There's also a lot of quality of life and technical improvements as well.

Plus, there will always be the original game to return to as well.

I do agree with your sentiment that we could be having new games but honestly I think remakes take up a pretty solid chunk of resources to make as they are technically new games.

I've seen and heard great things about Silent Hill 2 Remake. They should keep on working together. Their consultant though can go to the worst part of hell.

I don't like its approach to horror, it's very much about distorted visuals and jump scares. But I do love its world and atmosphere. I'm very conflicted about the game.
