You don't have to tell me about Sony's problems as I'm well aware of them. Sony is a corporation and therefore I owe zero allegiance or loyalty to them. In fact, I was using Sony's problems and arrogance regarding the PS3 as evidence of why one company with too much market influence is a bad thing. Sony and Microsoft are as interchangeable to me as KitchenAid and Whirlpool.  Â
this is where we differ. I don't see sony and ms as interchangeable.
the ps was product of a electronics engineer.
the xbox was the product of a team of gamers. i'll bet you think the xbox was bill's own conception, design and strategy, right?Â
i see ms as being different than sony in that they ASKED what gamers want insted of DICTATING what gamers want, as with sony....
Â
XBox a product of gamers? ROFL  ... how old are you?
Yeah, bad Sony. They forced me to play God of War, Shadow of the colossus, ICO, Loco Roco, Singstar, The Legend of Dragoon... they are bad really bad.
Well if age has anything to do with it I'm 35, and yes MS had a focus group of gamers who helped in the decisions pertaining to the Xbox. MS is renowned for using focus groups to better a product. Again what does that have to do with age. As much as you people whine and moan.......Sony isn't going any where, it is good water cooler talk but the reality is it is the 2nd largest Corp.....Ericvon71

[QUOTE="DXGreat1_HGL"][QUOTE="Chris-Hansen"]wow boy are you reaching fanboy, sony trying to catch up on MS ? controller, what the hell are you talking about ? is that why MS said 1080p wasnt needed and added it later ? is that why they added the HDMI port, and an HD movie player ? even going so far as to copy the color with elite ? do i relly need to continue my ownage upon you ? better yet i wont even waste any more time on you.
anyways i love how people are claiming owange on this, and it was posted on here already BTW last night. but not only is it speculation, cus sony hasnt posted anything yet, and console generations dont last one quarter. good thing sony just broke all previous records with spiderman 3 right ? and the movie is on a faster pace than 1 and 2 ;) also sony is taking a lot of cost cutting measures with the removial of the ps2 chips, cheaper ps3 chips, cheaper diodes, cheaper manufacturing, etc. so they wont be losing as much on each ps3 if anything at all come a few months. and also dont these losses take account the bluray losses and not just gaming ? of course a new medium will take losses at first but bluray will kill hd dvd and spiderman 3 might do that single handedly come this fall ;)Chris-Hansen
Using a movie as proof to bail the PS3? Talk about grasping. Anyone with even a minor knowledge of the industry will tell you the only reason this pile of garbage is making money is because it had high anticipation followed by no competition. Do you honostly think it's going to outpace 1 and 2 when Shrek the Third and Pirates: At Worlds End are released? The movie has already dropped 60% after 1 week. I doubt DVD sales will help that much.
Getting back on topic, as much as watching Sony fail would be entertaining from being around since last gen, total control from 1 company would provide low quality products. If you don't beleive me look at wrestling after McMahon bought out WCW and ECW...
if you had minor knowlege than you would know what im talking about :) they can afford to take these losses cus of the success of the movie division and electronics, its not about bailing out the ps3. just like your precious MS can afford to take a 5 and a half billion dollar hit cus the have an OS monopoly ;) you telling me spiderman 1 and 2 didnt have high anticipation and low competition ? companies choose to not release movies around big hitters like this for a reason, not to be crushed like some movies are. They lost 630 million as a company last quarter that's with Spider Man coming out and all. They lost over a Billion on their gaming devision.
I don't care what company you are you can't last long when your loosing 630 million dollars every 3 months.

I agree. This is just like MS, and if the 360 or the next Xbox doesn't at least do satisfactory. They'll have to cut it off, even if MS has bajillions. And so much for the "Wait until a price cut" argument.

I would not go that far, Sony has a lot of profitable divisions under its umbrella, but right now the PS3 is not one of them.
I like how analysts aren't credible around here until its some negative news about PS3.
Lets face it, these analysts don't know **** They study average consumer patterns and the game industry is far from average since one game that looks really nice to a passerby can set off a small boom for a certain console.Tiefster
True. Analysts only analyze existing trends in the market, they do not make any assumptions regarding games that might turn out to be a big hit for the system. Do you think that Bloomberg knows the difference between Spider-Man 3 and Heavenly Sword? Nope. A game is a game in the eyes of the analysts, even though in reality, a few well-placed solid AAA exclusives can be the difference between 3rd and 1st place.

For an age of 35, you have a very naive look at companies and their business practices. You should know that all electronic devices are made by engineers and industrial designers. They asked gamers about their thinking? I doubt that! There is only one case where developers seek out gamers and that's for the QA-department, where they are testing games and consoles. Every company, even the "Nemesis" Sony, has such "gamers", and they are all employees that signed NDAs.
MS is renowned for many things... IÂ just want to quote Bill Gates for his "brilliant"Â statement referring patents:Â
"If people had understood how patents would be granted when most of today's ideas were invented and had taken out patents, the industry would be at a complete standstill today."
"The solution is patenting as much as we can. A future startup with no patents of its own will be forced to pay whatever price the giants choose to impose. That price might be high. Established companies have an interest in excluding future competitors."

As far as their gaming division goes, anyone here who manages to gain any amount of money will make more than their entire gaming division.
Or, you could just try to lose less than 1,699,999,999.99$.
So, according to this, if I manage to make any amount of money this year, I, at 16, will have outdone people who have spent entire lives making their gaming division for Sony.
I rule.
If Nintendo is out of the gaming industry, there would be no more Nintendo franchises. Nintendo stated if they will stop being a console maker they wouldnt make games anymore. i think it was in wikipedia or some site.lordlors
Really? They would kill Mario, Link, Samus, Kirby, Luigi, Bowser....  THIS IS MADNESS....
Sounds like Sony might drop the PS line up because its bleeding money. Good riddance.JiveT
Your saying you wanted possibly the most success gaming company (in consoles, anyways), to give up and fail? I hope that's not your wish, because if that somehow happened, don't complain in the next 10 years that Microsoft and Nintendo aren't doing something innovative.Â

Well I noticed that I have mistaken you for tango90101, because you answered onto my "how old are you". This question was for him and by the way I was born 1976. I said it before of course gamers* can get jobs in the QA-dept. as testers but nothing else.
* with gamers I mean normal people that have normal jobs and not industry insiders like game-designers, artists, musicians, writers, producers, programmers.
i don't see why everyone is laughing at sony for "being stupid" or whatever, the way i see it they took a chance, it didn't pay off? that's way too early to say, but even if it didn't sonyis a company that learns from it's mistakes, so if the PS3 fails, expect the PS4 to be AMAZING!!!!.

BTW all the people dreaming that sony would drop out of gaming really are just dreaming, it's never going to happen.
