i am a critic of blu ray as a gaming format cuz its apparently way too pricey to put in a gaming console w/o causing manufacturers to put weaker hardware in the console to balance cost that is still $200 too expensive.

i am a critic of blu ray as a movie format cuz its amazingly underwhelming (so is the hd dvd for that matter). somehow even the codecs are a mess. flickering and black loss? "high def" indeed. :roll:

blu ray for movies is pathetic. You still need two discs for some, and not to mention the boxed sets are still multiple discs. A real next gen media would be able to fit every show of a t.v. series on one disc or w/e.

I've been spoiled by HDTV and PC gaming on monitors. I can no longer play anything on a SD television.

Same here, I just watched The Matrix on regualr DVD, and was just down right disgusted.... the original Matrix movie was one of the first DVD's if I remember right ( that I saw ) and I remember I thought it looked down right AMAZING at the time.... wow have times changed :lol: The menu for the DVD version looks like a home made youtube video now :lol:

A message to everyone crying over the price. There is no question that PS3 is value for money. Whether your a cow or lem if you can afford one be it a 360 or PS3 you are well off. To those making it sound like the price descretancy is 1.89 billion :)dollars its not. Also to have either system you will likely want to play online which requires a high speed connection as well as shell out the cash for games.

Like I said initillay if 100$ is aHUGE thing for you perhaps it may be wise not to invest in any system.

Next to all BD critics who say it is not needed what with multi disks d/l content and all that. The PS3 has been designed for a 10yr life cycle, tell me that in 10 yrs games will not take full advantage of BD. Games are getting bigger in size and Sony realized that and figured it was worth the BD price tag to make the life that long. I hate having to install games and having to get bigger and bigger HDD, when I can just pop in a BD and I'm off.

if zelda oot can fit in one catridge, games half as good can manage to fit in a cramped DVD.

Sony is just building the hype machine on its infamous ps3.

[QUOTE="tmgwarrior72"]

well the devs need to work harder,

u do know that all of zelda oot fit ona single32mb cartridge

mikemil828

Yeah, but Nintendo have been paying ever since for their decision to not use CDs for the N64. Will Microsoft suffer the same kind of fate, losing developers to the PS3 and the PC for lack of space?

well that's different. you can't swap out cartridges without turning n64 off. they weren't even GIVEN the option of a multi cartridge game. at least with cd's and dvd's, you can swap them easily.

[QUOTE="gakon5"][QUOTE="TyrantDragon55"]

[QUOTE="gakon5"] So you're basically suggesting a mandatory downloadable cache for every game? I just can't see that working.TyrantDragon55

Why not? The only problem is that not every 360 has a harddrive. And like someone else says, if that didn't work you could just install the games on the harddrive.

How big are you suggesting these files be? Like, upwards of 1GB? If it's a small file, sure, but if you're fitting big chunks of a game into a download just so it can load faster... My main problem with it is that not everyone is guarenteed access to these files. Yes, I know everyone on the planet has an internet connection, but not everyone does. So you bring home your 360 game, and it's like, "you need to download this giant file or you can't play." But you don't have an internet connection for your 360, or you have crappy dialup. Also, if you buy a lot of games, you might run out of space, however big your HDD is. Also, if there's a big game released, everyone will be trying to download the cache at once, because everyone needs it. Also, if you take the game to a friend's house, you'd have to bring your hard drive, or take the time to put the game's cache on the drive. That was several sentences starting with "also."

Not everyone has a HDTV either, but that hasn't stopped MS and Sony from making HD games standard and thus driving up prices.

u're missin' the point, and ur counter is not that clear either. U can still play WITHOUT hdtv, but when u go to a store to buy a game, u'ld proby want to return home with the whole thing in the disc....

Yes you can install games like on a PC but consoles are not supposed to be PCs. If games come in at 25G and you have say 2 DVDs and install and use the play disk,you will need space on the HDD. Ok but what if you want alot of games say you get 10 games a year how long will your HDD last you. Oh wait you forget live and PSN content.

To those who say d/l games is the future sure maybe but for now there isnt enough people with hi speed connections or even large HDD to store it all maybe in the future but we are in the here and now. PCs are PCs and consoles are consels.

Izzy12345

i hope DL games is not the future as you stated some dont have hi-speed connections and im one of em and add to the fact that DL games wont have any resale value so you are stuck with the game.
