So blu ray wins, PS3  wins!  HD DVD its loosin bad, and blu ray will b the only format out there with DVD,.  so people will buy the cheapest blu ray player in the market, and bling bling, PS3 $600 VS $1200

Ps3 will win.

Blu-ray needs to become industry standard before that happens. It's nowhere near it at present.

There is a flaw though, the 360 and Wii aren't dependent upon HD-DVD. The PS3 seems to have a larger dependency on Blu-Ray.

When Blu-ray becomes popular, the price of Blu-ray players will almost certainly plummet.

The PS3 will become the most expensive Blu-ray player on the market, so what is your point?

Sigh, your like the 100th person to use this flawed analogy. Here's why it's flawed. a) there was no competition with the succession to DVD, it was a consumer driven transition, opposed to a corporate pushed transition we're facing now b) DVDs provided a revolutionary form and function, not only were audio and visual quality better, you could pause, skip and escape primitive VHS style navigation. HD formats do not provide the same jump c) DVDs required no other adoptive technologies. HD formats require the extremely expensive HDTVs. So it's a smaller jump, that requires more of consumers, it's not the same situation.

DVD's are still outselling both on a massive scale. Puckhog04

My friend who is in film school has a movie collection featuring 181 DVD titles. He has invested almost $4000 into movies alone. He said he would not invest in HD anytime soon because re-buying his entire collection would be a waste of money. I told him about up-scaling DVD players and he was intrigued.

DVD is the way to go. HD anything is overrated.

Which is exactly why Microsoft weren't silly enough to bet the success of their console on the video format war. it doesn't matter if Blu-Ray wins or loses the format war because the 360 is not a part of that war. Now if you'll I'll go back to playing GAMES on my 360 which is what I bought it for.

Only $ony fanboys listen to this crap.  They hate to admit that the only reason why BluRay is out selling HD-DVD is because of the vouchers P$3 owners are filling out to get their free BluRay movies.

The war if far from over, and having a Movie Studio owner own the rights on how you view your movies is only bad for the industry.  HD-DVD hopefully wins, it's better for the consumer.

Therefore, it doesn't matter if (at this point) Blu-ray wins the format war. It's too niche a market to help the PS3 win.

So blu ray wins, PS3  wins!  HD DVD its loosin bad, and blu ray will b the only format out there with DVD,.  so people will buy the cheapest blu ray player in the market, and bling bling, PS3 $600 VS $1200

Ps3 will win.

PabbssPS3

I dont know if Sony changed their mind, but  BDP-S300 will be also $600. So really the ps3 wont be the only cheap blu-ray in the marker. If people wanted to buy the ps3 just cause the blu-ray, well I bet you they will get the BDP-S300. I know people that want a movie system, dont want a video game system ... so BDP will sell good.

Blu-Ray is the next-gen format, the odds are FAR in favor of Blu-Ray. And people will convert over, as people buy HDTV's, they'll buy the HD players to go along with them especially as the price begins to fall. DVD will still be around for years to come of course, but I'm willing to bet it'll see its prime sometime soon.

Wii sold 6 million, so no PS3 isn't anywhere near winning, and in fact PS3 sales are slowing

[QUOTE="Puckhog04"]DVD's are still outselling both on a massive scale. RotaryRX7
Maybe...because.......98% of the world has DVD players and only like .01% has a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player?

Is that my problem?

When Blu-ray becomes popular, the price of Blu-ray players will almost certainly plummet.

The PS3 will become the most expensive Blu-ray player on the market, so what is your point?

Planeforger

Omg, the logic, lol!

Exactly, as long as Sdvds sell, Blu-ray won't save the PS3, rather it'll kill it

VHS, WAS OUTSEELIN THE DVD, AND LOOK HOW IT TURNED OUT!!!  OFF COURSE DVD ITS OUTSELLIN BLUE RAY,  BUT GIVE IT TIME.

Sure, but by then this gen will be at the end or it'll be the next gen

Exactly. It's too early this generation IMO for Bluray or HD-DVD.

its funny how you guys think you are smarter than the poeple tah tworks for sony!! they have the money and the brand to change peoples mind, what you guys have?

Sony knows better than anyone that blue ray its gonna win this gen, after all the ps2 boosted DVD sales m ps3 will b the same thing to blu ray, and its happening.

Betamax ring a bell?

BOB? XBOX, ZONE,  etc....

So it doesn't then? Ok then.

Is that why they have a whole cupboard full of failed formats under their belt?

And as I've said, DVD adoption is completely different to HD adoption.

u never get it rigth, MICROSOF FAILED with other thing in the past, all companies fail sometime, Nintendo failed with N64 ATARI failed, Sony isnt perfect, but ps3 already 2millions sold = 2millions bluray players in less than 4 months, we all know its gonna win, is just matter of time.

Sony has more format failures than any company I know of; Betamax, UMD, MicroMV, Super CD, they have proven themselves consistently horrible at picking what's going to work. It doesn't matter how many PS3s they sell, because Blu-ray is totally dependant on HDTVs, which won't become standard for years, after this generation is over.

As long as DVD's are selling like crazy Blu-ray will not be dominant, by the time it beocmes dominant, the Wii and 360 will be so far ahead it won't make a difference

Read all the posts next time.

"a) there was no competition with the succession to DVD, it was a consumer driven transition, opposed to a corporate pushed transition we're facing now
b) DVDs provided a revolutionary form and function, not only were audio and visual quality better, you could pause, skip and escape primitive VHS ****navigation. HD formats do not provide the same jump
c) DVDs required no other adoptive technologies. HD formats require the extremely expensive HDTVs.

So it's a smaller jump, that requires more of consumers, it's not the same situation."

Yes, considering the point you made. When DVD's first came out and barely anyone had DVD players, did you say "CD's pwn DVD's because they're outselling DVD's 2:1 right now" even though no one had DVD players yet?

Again, there are differences to adopting HD formats to adopting DVDs that will make the former take much longer, and probably outside of the lifecycle of the PS3.

Exactly what does Wii and 360 have to do with Blu Ray?

Let me let you in on a little secret. People who buy HDTVs are not going to want to watch DVDs on them.

Most people don't own HDTVs

Correction: most people dont own hdtv right now.. the hdtv adoption rate has been huge for the past year (look at sony bravia's sales as an example). The adoption rate is only widening with the ps3 now global. In four years time probably three (if we are to believe the blu-ray association) blu-ray will take over as the standard. While its true that dvds will still hold a huge percentage of the market, it will only dwindle from there in out.

Wii sold 6 million, so no PS3 isn't anywhere near winning, and in fact PS3 sales are slowing

lo!! u dont know how this markets work!! it doesnt matter if they are slow, they can rank up from tonigth to the next morning.
