Until you provide a link, I call BS.l-_-l

I would say the burden of proof is on someone saying that VCRs apparently evaporated in the 90s, which started all of this. Didn't see you crying link then.

Who said anything about VHS evaporating in the 90s? If I saw that, guess what. I would have called them a lier and not even asked for a link. I see VHS in stores, so I know there is still a market for it (however small it is these days). And That brings be back to telling to to now not only provide a link, but stop trying to dodge my requeat for a link by trying to put the focus on something else. SO please provide that link. ;)

Page two, bottom of the page there skippy,

I provided two, as well as the chart from Nielsens, there are about 200 more if you would other links?

Nope, that works. But I am serious when I say I don't know anybody using VHS. They may have one in their bedroom or something, but not in the livingroom. I totally missed that post of your until you directed me back to it. I like to ask for links here alot because ALOT of fanboys (not calling you one) like to pull crap out their ass and try to pass it off as fact.

Well, now you have it. What are you going to do with it?

[QUOTE="doobie1975"]HD movies wont see anywhere near the sales of DVD. people have only just upgraded from VHS to DVD, i dont see them changing again anytime soon. doobie1975

lmfao @ "just" upgraded from vhs

i havent known anyone who still used vhs since atleast 2000

when you consider VHS had been around since the late 70's. its just im my eyes and the eyes of people that dont inhabit internet forums.

and so your saying you dont know anyone who's used VHS since 2000 is BS

Wow you are full of it. I haven't seen a VHS in anybodies house that I know for longer than 2000, so you fail. I see them in companies for showing new employees, but not in homes. Like i stated above, even my grandparents are watching DVD.

DVD didnt come out in USA till 1997 and europe till 1999, i dont know where you from but your saying that in the space of 3 years, give the high cost of players and movies at that time. everybody you know through out there VHS and got DVD's

Also i guess that everybody you know doesnt record becouse recordable DVD didnt get affordable for many years later.

so as i said BS

Yes they record, but not on VHS. You should really read up on all the different ways to record TV these days, because VHS is far from being the only way to do it. Call BS all you wish, it doesn't change the FACT that I don't know anybody with a VCR. So whistle BS all the way to school or work or where ever you go, but it changes nothing that I have said.

I fully understand the need for the link,

And as you can see by the charts I am not surprised that you don't see many VCR's because once DVD surpassed it and DVD players became 19.99, they surged by and VHS's expensive hardware vanished from the "new" marketplace.

The point is that it took nearly a decade for DVD to surpass VHS, and most people had TV's that you could hook a DVD player to (My first GE player even had coax connections) whereas today you don't have an overwealming amount of people with TV's that will benefit from having a 1080p player.

[QUOTE="l-_-l"][QUOTE="CJL13"]The reason it takes so long for a new movie format to pass the last is because the new format doesn't start with all the movies the last one had, so unless the new format is backwards-compatible, you're gonna have to keep the old format to watch some of the movies until they come out on the new format.cosmostein77

I don't know yet because I don't have a PS3, but doesn't Blu-Ray also play DVD?

Yes, but the main reason it took so long for DVDs to outsell VHS' was because the DVD isn't BC with the VHS.

Its an interesting arguement but I don't think that is really the case,

Why did I buy both HD Players? Because I had an HD-TV that I wanted to take advantage of,

WIth less then 10% of North American homes having HD-DVD as of the end of 2007, and less then 1% of homes having a 1080p TV in their homes its not just really a matter of getting an HD format player, but having the hardware to display it.

Blu-Ray's victory is slowed by the speed in which the consumer adopts HD-TVs

And as long as movies are still being put out on DVDs, the 90% don't really have a reason to upgrade other than prettier movies and maybe some extra features.

The problem with what you and Shady said wasn't the veracity of your statement. None of us know who you know or what hardware is in their entertainment units. It was that those statements were in the context (you know, context?) of denying that the DVD revolution was recent (later than 2000) and in some respects still ongoing.

Further, recording tv is still predominantly done on VCR. The world is not America. Hell, here in Canada, Tivo just arrived a few months ago (legal problems, not that Canada just got electricity). It seems we all need to do some reading up on subjects.

Like I said a few post back, they may have VHS in a bedroom or something for recording purposes, but not where I can see them. And I don't think I have seen a VHS in a friends living room for many years (before 2000). When I was talking about recording, I was talking about within like oh I don't know, lets say the last 5 years. You have things like tivo (spelling?) today.

You must not know many people then.... and you spend too much time at your grandparents apparently. As I said earlier, I don't know anyone who DOESN'T still have a VCR.

I have a VCR....somewhere....maybe in the back of a closet in my house. Haven't used it in years. For recording shows I'd much rather use DVR. Anyways, IMO, you're both right. Are VCR's still used? Yes. But on the other hand, DVDs and DVD players have been outselling VCRs for years and didn't just overcome VCR in 2006.

For sure. Though the provided link showed the passing of the hardware torch, I believe that in software sales DVD passed VHS somewhere in 2000. Still, that's not exactly ancient history unless you're really young, and is a far cry from them disappearing from the face of the earth.
