I love Assassins Creed 2 as much as the next guy and I know they are not the first to strip content out of game to sell as DLC, but come on. That's B.S.
Intentionally taking out game missions just to sell as DLC is not right, even if it it's cheap.

I hate to break it to you but if AC2 were released las tgen they wouldnt include that DLC in with the game, youd just never get the choice to get it.
Last gen games were more complete. When they made a game they usually made a definitive product. If they were cutting content they weren't doing it to make a profit.I hate to break it to you but if AC2 were released las tgen they wouldnt include that DLC in with the game, youd just never get the choice to get it.

AC2 was great game, and if the DLC is good, i will buy that as well, whats wrong with that? I could understand if it was oblivions horse armor, but episodic content is usually worth the 5-10$
DoomZaW
But this episodic content was INTENTIONALLY taken out of the game to sell and the developers admit it. It should have been in there
it's not like GTA: Lost and Damned where new content was created that wasn't there before.
The game was great, its not like its on disk or something. They didn't have time to finish it and decided that other things were more important. Its only 4-5 dollars each, so just pay up or don't. They aren't ripping you off.

I do admit that in some cases the DLC is just the devs cutting content to milk money, but I seriously dont feel that thisis one of those cases. I think that this wasnt ready when the game was released, and well now it is, and well yea I do admit they ARE probably doin this for profit.

Its not like the DLC was done dude. They needed to cut it from the game due to time constraints and lack of polish. Last gen, it would be cut. End of story.
Besides, the dev is right, AC2 is loaded with content. Its not like you didn't get your money's worth.

No, not end of story. If you want to believe UBISOFT's BS, then release the DLC for FREE.

There we go.
"Okay, let's take a portion of the game that was planned and we'll give it in DLC.' We'll remove some stress to the team while giving more to fans and people who like Assassin's Creed" It was planned, it was never actually physically made and put in the game. Thats completely different than actually taking it out.Skittles_McGee
yay, there we go, I didnt COMPLETELY self own myself then :P

Um... Hate you break it to you but your article says that the content WASN'T complete, but was planned and they didn't have time to complete it, so they decide to release it as DLC
I felt that, 'Okay, there were too many things to do and to finish.' So we said, 'Okay, let's take a portion of the game that was planned and we'll give it in DLC.' We'll remove some stress to the team while giving more to fans and people who like Assassin's Creed
Why? The game was good, and if the DLC actually adds to the game, why not? DLC packs these days are just small expansion packs, and instead of paying $30, you only pay $5-10.
The idea of DLC doesn't need to be demonized any more. Many things are actually created after the game is released, and like expansion packs, add new content, just less content for less money. If you boycott DLC, you should boycott expansion packs too... since that is content added to a game after it is released and by all intents and purposes "should" have been in there in the first place. But it wasn't, and ended up being made afterwards.

It was intentionally taken out of the game. Then intentionally went back later with a separate budget and a separate timeframe to create it as DLC. If this wasn't being made as DLC, it wouldn't exist. Period. This was content cut from the game to keep their budget and schedule. I love it when people that know nothing about the industry try to take guesses at things like this. :([QUOTE="DumbDubya"]

But this has nothing to do with opinion. You said they physically took the data out of the game to make it DLC. They didn't. You were wrong. Where does opinion factor into this at all?I havent finished AC2 yet but its supposedly atleast 15-20 hours to beat the main story plus all the other stuff you can do. So I dont think its a big deal and the prices arent too bad.
Now something like Prince ofPersia where you get a 10 hour game with the only replay coming from collecting seeds to unlock some costumes, thenyou release $10 DLC, that is a problem.
I look at it like this...no game is worth $60 but of all the games I've paid $60 how did my ratio of enjoyment compared to the price work out. For AC2 I feel I got a good value, especially when I add the free family crypt DLC, and other free stuff from Uplay. So for me to pay an extra $10 for two more levels, it's really not a big deal.
If you don't agree, then protest the best way...don't buy the DLC.
I don't like where DLC is going in gaming and your not helping. Never buy DLC its not worth it. Oh never buy a game at full price it's not worth it as well.AC2 was great game, and if the DLC is good, i will buy that as well, whats wrong with that? I agree that all of this DLC buisness is nonsense, but it sells so almost every dev is taking advantage of it now. You just have to choose whats worth it, and what is not. Assassians creed 2 i dont think is as bad as other devs, its already a big game and its comming out a few months after the release, at a really cheap price compared to other add ons. Dragon age was a huge offender of the DLC buisness, they release 2 big pieces of DLC, the day of release. That is compelete BS, its clear the content was ready to be put in the full game, they just decided to slice it out and sell it for 10 bucks. Welcome to the next gen.
While I usually hate it when developers release DLC that could've been included in the core game, the point Ubisoft made was something I can actually understand. They said they took those 2 Memory Blocks out of the game so they could find time to polish AC2 and iron out any bugs before it's holiday-season release. Having a stake in the Q4 release quarter, especially this year when most developers have pushed their big games into the next quarter, is very important, so I can totally understand why they chose to use their time polishing the game instead of fitting in those two Memory Blocks. Besides, it's $9 total, and if you really did like Assassin's Creed II, then there's not a whole lot to complain about; they're giving you more of what you loved to play.
Besides, I think one of the reasons they emphasized that each download would take up about one gig of space might be implying that they couldn't fit those levels on the disc.
TC if you really didn't want the game to sell you should have carrotmobbed it, everyone would have thought you were a crank and fewer people would buy it.

Because if you had worked anywhere within a stone's throw of the industry you would be able to read what the guy said and understand exactly what happened, unless you assume he's lying, in which case why are you selectively believing him on some things so you can crucify him for the rest? I can tell you didn't know how things go, and thus misinterpreted what he said, because of what you said.I agree that all of this DLC buisness is nonsense, but it sells so almost every dev is taking advantage of it now. this is another one. one piece of the DLC was just plain included free if you bought the game. they -didn't- sell it for five bucks unless you didn't buy the game.
the other was included in the CE instead. again, if you have problems with the ideas of LE/CE then cool, otherwise i dunno what the problem was. I got my digital deluxe off steam for $50 or whatever the original discounted price was, so i've got no complaints there.
and seriously, complaining about them skimming content on a game that is already 40-50+ hours long? really?
