The salt level on this is at all time high levels. As a loyal, long term Diablo franchise fan, I find this fascinating.

More Blizzard developed Diablo is nothing if not excellent news.

Someone can be a fan of something and still think the developer is making a horrible decision in releasing a dumbed-down, likely microtransaction-laden mobile version of a game.

But then again, you are an Apple fanboy, so your logic has never quite ceased to amaze me.

I will never understand why PC gamers are so upset. Diablo has always been a mediocre series of games.

It’s just a simple grindy loot picking up button masher.

The series is stuck in the 90’s and there is no way to make it better in today’s world.

This hits the PC gamer hard because they hate Diablo 3 and can’t explain why.

The realization will come soon enough that the series was never good.

I love Diablo 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He's a troll alt.

@foxhound_fox: Well you don’t have to get so personal.

All I’m doing is patiently reserving judgement, as opposed to coming to conclusions about things I know next to nothing about. It’s just logical.

I’ll never get too bent out of shape being criticized for that. Or choosing to buy products, as opposed to volunteering to be one.

@FireEmblem_Man: I don’t depend on any Google service. If they disappeared overnight, I don’t think I’d notice.

@musicalmac: I DM'd you, also, I'm no Android faithful :-P You know I stood with Microsoft and Nintendo

Also, I read somewhere that Fortnite on iOS is a battery drain, comes close to the Switch version in handheld, 2.5 hours max

@musicalmac: well then, we need to see battery life benchmarks. Switch maybe using an old Tegra X1, but it still runs full games. We have yet seen current full games running on iOS. I don't mean classic titles. A good benchmark like Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, Fortnite, and more.

@FireEmblem_Man: I suppose I’m not too worried about it. An iPhone can do a whole heck of a lot more than a switch.

@musicalmac: yeah, well a switch is a dedicated gaming device, but is also capable of local multiplayer, can your tiny iPhone XS do that?

How many mobile games have you played that don't have microtransactions to speed up progress? Heck, how many have you played that don't lock game content behind real-life timers?

@xantufrog: Well I haven’t played this yet, so time will tell.

And compared to D2, I agree that D3 is less appealing. The additional content we got in 2 also felt like a better value than 3. All that considered, I’ve still put many hours into 3. And enjoyed it, even back to the auction house days.

Starcraft Remastered didn't really give us overly special graphics, they certainly look better than the original but it is no SC2

@foxhound_fox: What answer are you looking for? An anecdotal one or a statistical one? This reads to me more like a rhetorical question based on your own conventional wisdom, which suggests you may not know very much about this particular topic.

There are games like you describe and there are games that function much more like something we’d find on dedicated gaming platforms. The latter happens to be what I have installed on my personal phone.

Edit—One easy misunderstanding is to equate the Google Play store with the Apple App Store. These things do not share the same level of quality.

So instead of answering the question, you give a pedantic non-answer.

@foxhound_fox: Actually, I asked for clarification and even offered a explanation as to your overall assumed view of mobile games as a whole. None of that really fits any definition of the word pedantic.

If you have a recent Apple mobile device and are fully aware of what games are available, feel free to correct me.

I asked two fairly simple, related questions that need no clarification. If you want to avoid answering them, that's fine, that's your prerogative, but I was merely asking you how many mobile games do you know of that don't use real-world money purchases to speed up progress through the game.

It's such a huge trope of the mobile gaming world that I find it hard to believe there are any out there, that aren't straight ports of other games from other platforms, that don't use some sort of pay-to-win structure.

I don't use Apple products, as I believe Apple's philosophy of trying to prevent the end user from repairing their own product is incredibly anti-consumer.

Bro, we don't need expensive wireless controllers when the Switch comes with the Joycons included. Just slide them out and you can play old school local multiplayers like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe :P

@musicalmac: I have to admit, I started a new Demon Hunter today on hardcore mode and it's been much more enjoyable than I remembered. I'd still recommend Grim Dawn over it in general for following a more Diablo 2 vibe, but I'm having fun

@xantufrog: So far it's a great port. Looks great on both portable and docked mode and haven't seen any slowdowns with bigger mobs so it runs pretty smooth. It's nice to have multiple ways to control it too. You only need one joycon at a minimum to play.

Oh boy, it really doesn’t look like things are going well for Blizzard and this announcement right now. They’ve unlisted and reuploaded the trailer for Diablo Immortal so as to reset the likes/dislikes because it has gotten a ton of dislikes and it still is. You would have thought that Blizzard, and others, would have noticed the backlash that EA got for Command & Conquer Rivals.

If that's the case, then this is a huge PR Nightmare for Blizzard. Disabling comments and likes/dislikes is a bad business move.

@foxhound_fox: So I was right—your opinions aren’t being applied rationally.

No Apple products means no experience. No experience means you assume what the mobile game universe looks like. Your assumptions have armed you with strong opinions. Do you see the problem?

To answer your question again—there are loads of high quality games that don’t include boosters or timers or pay to win schemes.

The reason I asked for clarification above was because I didn’t feel like saying “Yes, there are plenty,” was an answer that would satisfy you. Which it didn’t because you tried to say I didn’t answer you.

While I don't think it looks that bad ... I mean let's be real here ... Diablo has never intended to be a Pillars of Eternity when it comes to gameplay complexity ... Is just an Arcade type of game ... Is kind of like the Dinasty Warriors of the CRPGs .. I also don't think it looks that good, as someone who never played Diablo III I think I will try the Switch version. I have my mobile gaming covered with Hearthstone.

I have to give my money to a company that is anti-consumer and I don't wish to support in order to have an opinion about something? Do you realize how utterly stupid that sounds?

So you still don't have any actual titles of games, just "there are loads of high quality games"? This is like something Trump would say. "Apple's got loads of high quality games, all the games, the best games, super great games there."

I haven't encountered a single mobile game that doesn't in some way have a means for the player to pay for accelerated advancement. I was hoping someone could point me towards one that doesn't include that stuff, but you wasted your own, and my time responding to me. Thanks though.

It really is baffling that they thought this would go over well at Blizzcon of all places, a PC centric western crowd. The marketing for this is completely mismanaged. Easily could have been fixed if they had teased some kind of DLC for D3 or hints at other projects (but then I guess they'd have to actually be working on those, lol at Bliz caring about Diablo content). Then push Immortal down into their "what's next" panel with attention for it split. Or just call it D3 mobile so they don't hype people up for a "new game" that's just a shitty reskin of other games from their Chinese outsourced company.

Or just put it off until after Blizzcon, no one there will ever want this, and the crowd backlash has basically made the game into a bad meme.
