ha ha wii online sucks
still using friends codes, how primative
Thebettertwin
You type in the friends codes to register your friends, after that you don't have to type in friends codes for the friends you've registered.
You use friends codes to play with your friends, and not necessary to play with randoms.
What's the big deal?
You are too. Except your friend codes are different. Learn to think... and then do it on your own.ha ha wii online sucks

1. It obviously does use friend codes for playing with friends.
2. Doesn't record stats for non-friend matches.
3. If you quit you can just have it hurt the person who quits. Cheaters can be reported and so can hackers.
Yup. Wii online still sucks.
the online is garbage , stop talking about it . I should be able to have ranked matches with anyone I wantSonic_on_crack
What is the point of ranked matches except to encourage cheating?
I never did see the point.
still no mics?LoG-Sacrament
Damn it, looks like I won't be able to listen to racist 11 year olds scream at me when I beat them. Cmon Nintendo!
I actually like no ranked random matches. Makes it less competitive for stupid rankings. No voice chat with your friends is a big letdown, as is not having a lot of options for online matches (however, they haven't shown us what you can change, just that it must be free-for-all).
Still, the best part of the friend online is that it allows you to check your friend's status and post messages to them. One of the main problems with Nintendo's Friends List is that you couldn't leave a message if they were offline or tell whether they were online at all. 1 problem down, now Nintendo, give us voice chat and hosted servers for random matches!

you can't downplay how much mics are used today in games: anything from just talking to your friends, organizing tactics, or trash talking your opponents. it just makes it a better experience imo (only if there is a mute button to mute those 11 year old racists). i'm really looking forward to a wii mic.

A mic would be good with your friends, but there's really no reason for it with random people. Nintendo is trying to be family-friendly, a little too much if you ask me, and don't want people to trash talk each other. This is a fighting game, so you don't need any organizing tactics.

A ranking system separates out people of different skill levels, which is very important in a game that can be as competitive as Smash Bros.
If I'm a player who is much better than the general populace, if I play a random game, most of the time it will be easy for me to win, as I'll be beating up on people of lower skill levels. That's no fun for the people who aren't as good, and it's no fun for me as the better player, as I'm not getting any kind of challenge.
The only way players can be ensured of playing people at their skill level is by playing with friends of equivalent skill.
An unranked option could easily be included for players who don't like an atmosphere that competitive.

thats also another point level 10's should'nt be playing level 5's
honestly Smash Bros has no hope to even compare to Unreal3 or Halo 3 in online now.

i know this is a fighting game but it would still be good to have. also when MOHH 2 comes out with it's 32-player online matches with no good way to communicate it's just going to be a every man for himself kind of thing. this is a perfect example when a mic would be very useful.
