Is anyone else sick and tired of Jack Black and his stupid 'rock' image.

This game seems like it would have made a funny cartoon series back in the 80's, but it just doesn't look funny to me.

Ozzy Osbourne isn't funny anymore and neither is Jack Black.

I know it's Tim Schaefer, the maker of Grim Fandango, one of my favorite games of all time, but this just looks stupid.

Am I missing the appeal or does anyone agree?

No, I am not tired of Jack Black and his "rock" image. He's entertaining and a good guitarist IMO. I'm definitely looking forward to Brutal Legend from what I've seen of it.

I just dont see whats so good/appealing about the game, then again, I was the only person in the world that did not like Psychonauts, maybe thats why I'm not looking forward to Brutal Legend, I heard it is from the same dev.

I'm not into metal at all and I want to play the game. Tim Schaefer makes great games. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here, only I don't have a doubt because what I've seen looks cool.

I haven't seen anything really noteworthy about the game yet to be honest, but when a game that's supposedly as personal as it can get to Tim Schafer, that puts enough faith in me to make a pure blind purchase, and God knows Tim Schafer deserves it.

Since when? The guy has spent the last ten years either pushing up his "comical drugged out ex-rocker" image on his reality TV show or making cameos in Adam Sandler movies...

I take it he told you this over high-tea? A guy who makes frequent media appearances of a comical sort... That's like saying Jerry Seinfeld isn't trying to be funny, he's just a funny guy. It's true he's just a funny guy, but when he puts himself in front of a camera which is being shown to people who expect humour from him, he's trying to be funny. Ozzy is no different. And besides, are you trying to tell me that in his appearance in an Adam Sandler comedy he wasn't actually trying to be funny at all?

No. I get it, it's some cool fad to dislike Jack Black, but dear god, if a voice annoys anyone that much, then maybe there's deeper issues here than a game, I think.

I'm not a big Jack Black fan, but I don't hate the guy that much. He fits Eddie Riggs character quite well. But hey, the reviews will come out and be fantastic, and then all them Jack Black haters will have to bury a hole and miss out, I guess. The rest of us will be enjoying a masterpiece. Rob Halford, Lemmy Kilmister, Tim Schafer, a heavy metal open world with an environment inspired by heavy metal album covers, cool ass vehicles, 100's of metal tunes, etc = frickin' win!

They've only shown like one line of Ozzy Osburne and no, I think the game looks awesome and really original coming from somebody who doens't even really like metal that much. Rock on, Jack Black!

They're gonna have stuff like Amon Amarth in there, too. Black, death, thrash, hair, and just standard metal.

You must not be harccore!!! Hardcore gamers want sequels. Hardcore gamers want three more versions of Halo to come out next year. Hardcore gamers want Resident Evil 6,8,9 (I skipped seven cause that number scares me) to come out at the same time. Hardcore Gamers what Street Fighter 4 Hyper Mega super Tournament Champion Edition where the game plays exactly like it did in 1990 but it has prettier graphics and the Fat Mans belly jiggles. Hardcore Gamers want Metal Gear Movie 7 where Raiden and Snake have homoerotic encounters all told through an interactive movie where you ALMOST control the action.

Don't forget Guitar Hero. Buying 3 Guitar Heros per year is ultra 1337.

I like 3 of the of the Sub-genres you listed I don't like Black or Death Metal. If it has Power Metal that would also be great stuff like Helloween.

Is that why Scribblenauts is one of the most hyped games right now? What about BioShock? That was hyped to hell and back, too. It's just easier to hype something with a familiar formula. Your sarcasm was unneeded, rude, and no one acts like that. Anyway, I didn't like Physconauts. I will not be getting this game unless something pops up that really wows me about it.

No, they are bashing it because they see it nothing more as a glorified tech demo. Just because a certain game isn't intriguing to a certain person, doesn't mean the only want sequels.

On the contrary, I think it's cool to like Jack Black since he has this "bad boy of rock" image. For a guy whose actual comedic offerings tend to be pretty meh compared to the more dedicated comedians, he's a guy who's really made his stake in film based on image, being a member of Tenacious-D and starring in School of Rock. This Jack-Black Love affair reminds me of the rap fans who used to argue that L.L. Cool Jay was really quite a good actor based on his performances in Any Given Sunday and Deep Blue Sea. I also don't hate the guy (actually quite curious to see Year One), but I do find the Jack Black hype as anything but a musician to be blown *way* out of proportion for a guy who has so few standout contributions to much anything since School of Rock. I look at crap like Shallow Hal and that sorry excuse for an acting job in King Kong and I really see a reputation established more on a bad-boy-of-rock image than on actual quality offerings. Not to say he's terrible, but he ain't that great in most of the things he does. Oh, and also, Brutal Legends could be very good - I really don't know, and I wouldn't be qualified to say, since it's not a type of game I'm really at all interested in.

Count up all the threads with hyped games and tell me which ones are sequels and which ones are original IP's. Maybe you;re just not HHHHHAAAAAARRRRRDDDDDCCCCCCOOOOOOORRRRRRREEEEEEE enough for System Wars. You must label yourself HHHHHAAAAAARRRRRDDDDDCCCCCCOOOOOOORRRRRRREEEEEEE to give added self hype and elitistism and credibility around these parts.

Oh, and also, Brutal Legends could be very good - I really don't know, and I wouldn't be qualified to say, since it's not a type of game I'm really at all interested in.

From what I've studied as a Br00tal Legend stalker, I've noticed that it's actually "cool" and a new "trend" to rip Jack Black apart. Sure, his roles are nearly identical. We all now his gig in his movies and with Tenacious D, but that's kinda why he fits the character. Anyone who has played a Tim Schafer game is not expecting something deep and moving, but an hilarious and well written adventure. He's got a cast that can deliver that. I'm not saying Jack Black is hilarious, but with such fine talent writing the script, I don't have any concerns whatsoever.

Totally agree, they might as well have just named it 'Jack Black - The Game'.

Kung Fu Panda is a brilliant movie. Jack Black is good in the Holiday, Tropic Thunder is Brilliant, and he had a very underrated role in Margot at the Wedding. And Be Kind Rewind was alright if a little silly. JB is at his best acting when he's not "JB playing a character for JB" Nacho Libre sucked, School of Rock was ok, though he has better movies, actually to me Year One looks pretty uninspired and cliche and I;m a huge Harold Ramis fan too. But my favorite JB movie is Tenacious D: POD. That's JB doing true JB humor

Or Lemmy Kilmister - The Game.

Or Lita Ford - The Game.

Or Rob Halford - The Game.

Or Tim Schafer - The Game. (This is Tim's dream game.)

Etc.

From what I've seen as a moviegoer, I've spent years having people say "Hey, let's go see movie X - it has Jack Black in it!" to have me almost always be sorely let down. If there is a trend to rip Jack Black apart, it's coming off the heels of a long standing trend to view him as some hip bad boy of rock. I assure you, for me personally, I've been generally ambivalent towards him since Shallow Hal.

As a fellow moviegoer, too, I've seen many people enjoy his flicks. Did they praise them? Hell no. But they didn't hate them, for the most part. A game and movie audience, for the most part, are different audiences, though. Gamers seem to be a bit more pretentious and stuck up. They just can't enjoy something. It angers me. These kind of people do penetrate every form of entertainment, though. They're the artsy fartsy ***** that no one wants to listen to, but they're still intrigued by it. It's like Yahtzee. He's a man I'd never want to be around. If he tears things apart at every turn like that in real life, then what a depressing stay on earth that'd be. These kind of people **** me off. If you don't like something, then please, say it once and get it out, or just don't bother and move onto something you do enjoy.

My problem with Jack Black, and with alot of actors, is that he doesn't seem able, or willing, to do anything other than the 'bad boy of rock' immage.

Michael Cera is another example, can he play anything other than the awkward teenager? I just don't enjoy seeing actors play the same roles over and over (unless its a sequel of course) that's why Jack Black is a real turn off for me when it comes to this game.

Aye, true enough. Though, there is an inverse group to the Yahtzees out there... The veritable sycophants which take a liking to something and endeavour to scream its praises from the rafters until everybody knows what they like, and why what they like is just the bestest thing ever. Such overwhelming and vocal enthusiasm can be a tremendous turnoff for those who don't share it. As it happens, I believe these two groups share a sort of symbiotic relationship with each other, with one constantly spurring the other to new heights...

My particular distaste for this sycophant group stems from the realization that many of them are doing something we've all done before... Been caught up in an initial impression of something so that our own expectation of our initial impression greatly colors our view of what the figure in question does. Of course, our own enthusiastic rose-coloring goes on to inflate the image of the figure in question, and we in essence bootstrap up the image of something that just ain't that great. Years later, looking back, we realize "Hey, that wasn't actually all that great - I just sort of let myself get swept up in something, and in doing so, helped create the wave that kept sweeping people up." Personally, I feel Jack Black is going to be one of those figures that a *lot* of people look back on in five or ten years and say "Yeah, I was realy gung-ho about him back then, but looking back, he was really just a pretty meh comedian that used to make good music."

Some people do what they do. Honestly, I like Michael Cera. I find his dry humor quite hilarious at times.

I guess, if you don't like them, then you don't like them. But many people have their gigs and not much more. I don't want Michael Cera or Jack Black to feed me some BS lines about this or that if they can't pull it off. Some actors are a one trick pony and they do what they do well.
