According to Bungie, the Xbox One X will be running at 30 FPS when the system launches.

Destiny 2 project lead Mark Noseworthy has sent out a string of tweets explaining why the game only runs at 30FPS on Xbox One X, despite the machine being the most powerful console ever released.

Noseworthy explained, across four tweets, that 30FPS has been set to maintain Destiny 2’s “AI counts, environment sizes, and (number) of players”.

It also looks like they haven't gotten the game running at 4K yet on the X1X. So unless they work quickly, Destiny 2 might run at 1080p 30fps on X1X at launch.

What's also interesting is that he addressed an apparent rumor that since Sony has a marketing deal with Activision, Sony made Bungie enforce parity with the PS4 Pro.

It seems that the real issue is the CPU in every console.

Obviously CPU is the issue, 60fps on this CPU will not be possible for majority of titles, they must have had 4K 30fps in mind when building X1X, which makes sense.

Every third party game announced so far is 30fps Even playergrounds unknown is 30fps for xbox one x. Microsoft smoke and mirrors there with the CPU also. The Jaguar evolved is not better than the PS4 pro Jaguar so far.

Yeah 4K/30 is understandable. But what he's saying is that they're evaluating 4K, which means they haven't put any real development into it. That means that if they don't release a patch on X1X launch day, X1X owners will be playing this game at 1080/30 until they do.

Anyone thinking this game would run 4K @ 60fps on XboneX was deluding themselves. The CPU on XboneX and PS4 Pro are complete shit and is what holds back both consoles compared to PCs.

LOL @ the lems that hyped the XboneX as a next-gen system based on MS' bullshit hype over the past year.

I won't be surprised if this game uses Checkerboard on X1X and still capped at 30fps.

Why pick on just X1X?

The last tweet notes that 4K resolution is currently being ‘evaluated’ for Xbox One X – although that’s understandable, since the game comes out well before the console, and Bungie is focused on launching the game itself for now. It’s also not clear yet what resolution the PS4 Pro will display Destiny 2 at, although we knew well before E3 that it couldn’t handle 60FPS either.

Because we all know the Pro will be 30fps likely checkerboarded to 4K. That's old news ron. I'm pretty sure you were part of that thread too.

http://gametransfers.com/destiny-2-4k-resolution-confirmed-only-on-ps4-pro-no-promise-for-xbox-one-x/

“We confirmed 4K for PlayStation 4 Pro, have not made any promises about Scorpio (Xbox One X) as of yet. It’s very recent development they just announced two days ago, so we are working behind the scene to see what it’s future holds for us and these are announcements that will make at some point in time,” says the community manager of Bungie, without excluding the support of 4K on Xbox One X of Destiny 2 which might arrive in the future.

Earlier, Bungie has confirmed that the Xbox One X version of Destiny 2 will not run at 60fps. Luke Smith, design director of the upcoming shooter from Bungie, has confirmed Geoff Keighley that Destiny 2 on the Xbox One X will run at 30fps.

Bungie has not explained why Destiny 2 will not run at a higher frame rate on the new console of Microsoft.

We remind you that the new FPS title of Bungie will release on September 6 on PS4 and Xbox One, and October 24 on PC.

Finally, we can now all agree the CPU's in both consoles are a pile of dog turd.

Xbox one X has the GPU and Memory grunt to deliver 4k. The cpu is not enough to handle the complexity geometry calculation that this game is asking at 60hz. The gpu has a lot more power to do its work especially now that all it has to do is match cpu 30hz target. Well as long as that cpu work load does not add to a whole lot more stuff for gpu to render. Its a balance thing sometimes your stuck because of cpu. This ofcourse is there engine and the choices they made, some studios handle things better with there engines.

Yet you shelled out $400 for a PlayStation 4 Pro that you continue to buy multiplatform games on which are available on PC.

Furthermore, you likely don't even have a PC setup for 4K anything, not to mention 4K is a stupid metric to shoot for on PC currently unless you've got an obscenely disposable income otherwise you're relegated to unoptimal performance given the medium and horrible refresh rates.

For 4K to even be worth the effort on PC you've got to spend in the $3,000 range.

Not surprising, console devs will prioritize how detailed a tree is and how many trees there are, then running the game at 60 frames per second.

One of the first major multiplayer games to be on the X1X, and not only can they not achieve 60fps--they're having trouble even getting the game to 4k. Most powerful console in the world......at 1080p. Sweet. Makes me sure want to throw $500 at it.

Or not.

One of the first major multiplayer games to be on the X1X, and not only can they not achieve 60fps--they're having trouble even getting the game to 4k. Most powerful console in the world......at 1080p. Sweet. Makes me sure want to throw $500 at it.

Or not.

This post is disingenuous on multiple levels.

Nice argument. I'll have to think deeply on that one.

First off who ever said it would or should be able to achieve 60 FPS in this title? No one, frankly when all of this controversy started up I was dumbfounded at the levels of stupidity flying around all over the internet as if this system was supposed to run this game at 4K 60, who was actually expecting that and why?

Secondly at no point was it stated anywhere that they were having trouble getting the game to 4K, you're quite literally making that up not to mention this game appears nearly identical in engine and details to the original game so native 4K from that alone should be a certainty on this system given the operational metrics of the original on Xbox One.

Phil just lied that's all. Expect checkerboard and other trickery like time travel projection.

"Most powerful console in the world"---------->"A true 4k machine"--------->Cannot, thus far, achieve 4k@60fps for the majority of games that will be playable on it---------->In the case of Destiny 2, perhaps the most major multiplayer game of the year when it releases, there is a question if it will even be 4k@30fps, or if it will be 4k at all--------->Not a single third party game so far for the X1X runs higher than 30fps--------->"Playing without boundaries", indeed.

I still don't see a reason why this game can't be 4k on the OneX. I believe 4k @30+ fps can be achieved

  • It is the most powerful console in the world.
  • If properly developed for with realistic existing targets it can do true 4K.
  • No where was it ever stated that 60 FPS would be some kind of standardization for games, nor is it even an industry standard right now.
  • Destiny operates at 1080p on the Xbox One, there should be no question as to if this game could render in native 4K, for all intents and purposes the game looks identical to the first and this system is easily 5x more powerful than the Xbox One.

Have you noticed anything with these third party games coming to this system? They're shooting for rendering budgets on this console that greatly exceed existing console standards, instead of raw resolution at typical graphical configurations they're shooting for advanced configurations and mitigating the resolution by introducing checkerboarding and scaling.

Between bans I guess you forgot lemmings actually claimed this.

It still doesn't change the fact that your statement is factually incorrect. :)

If any of you knuckleheads watched the PC Gaming show, you'd know that the game engine is scalable across as many cores as you throw at it. There is a very technical reason why the framerate is similar on both systems. They have also gone on the record to say the framerate will not be locked. Destiny 2 is apparently very ready for i9 and Threadripper. The bone and the pro never really stood a chance.

It really is better to listen to developers than hype.

X1X just looks like more broken promises and lies from Phil. This is the machine that was supposed to set the world on fire and be the envy of gamers everywhere. What happened?

Glad we can agree that you were making false statements.

It clearly is, you guys have been rambling about it for an entire year and since E3 of this year things are getting so bad for you guys that you go out of your way to omit information, act obtuse and bald face lie just to downplay this thing.

You're shook.

Yep, that's the kind of bullshit lemmings have been posting around here since last year's e3, pretending people other than hardcore xbox fanboys care about dumb shit like this. The few remaining xbots have delusions that because nobody wants it, they must be jelly! Yeah, that's it.

The only ones who care about power are hermits, who also don't give a rat's ass about it, and mad Xbox fans who still haven't gotten over the original Xbox One's shortcomings. Sony and Nintendo fans just care about games, not boring tech specs and hardware.

Nobody wants it? Yeah keep telling yourself that.

Oh you cows just care about the games? Why did any of you buy a PlayStation 4 before 2017 then? Why were you guys droning on endlessly about technical specifications, latching onto Digital Foundry surrounding multiplatform games and pushing the resolution narrative to no end?

You guys don't have an honest bone in your bodies, you not just ridiculously lie to us which can be proven easily, you actually lie to yourselves.
