Well played Activision. You've found you way through my boycott
I have to decide if I hate Activision more than I love Bungie now - as it will determine whether or not I buy Bungie's new title used.

EA has proven a bit different. We havent heard anything about them affecting the way Bioware or Valve develop their games. You, Bungue fans, shouldn't worry. It's only a publishing contract. The same way EA publishes Valve games. Does EA have any control over Valve and it's franchises? No.

[QUOTE="sonicmj1"]Let's calm down a little bit here, people. Take a closer look at the press release. I will quote a bit for your convenience.
[QUOTE="Press Release"]
Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices. Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. HotRevolver
So this means that:
Still, I'm rather shocked. This sort of deal seemed to be something that only EA did. Given all the Infinity Ward drama going on, you'd think that other FPS developers would steer away from Activision.
THIS. Do any of you people actually read the articles posted here on System Wars? Good grief...Yes, this is actually a sweet as roses deal for Bungie.
after reading it over it's only one IP this isn't as bad as system war people are making it outMicrosoft1234what if this "one IP" is better than halo?
I think people are overreacting; Bungie are still completely independent and have full control of the IP. All Activision is going to do is publish, and I don't see what difference it would make if it were EA, Ubisoft or anyone else... As long as they don't pull any of that higher price crap, anyway. :P The only company I'm disappointed in is MS, for letting Bungie slip out of their reach (nopunintended). This is a big blow for MS platforms....angelkimnei hate exclusives anyway. especially "exclusive" third party devs. So this is really good news. Bungie needs to be on the Wii.
This is bad news. Activision has already ruined Call of Duty AND Guitar Hero. One can hope that Bungie will still keep their creative drive without being overshadowed by Activision, as well as not milking their franchises to death.

Obviously they keep the Halo IP but I doubt they can milk that forever with FPS's. I think this is kind of a big deal for MS.

They like money?
Could have found someone better than Activision.
I mean I understand they don't own Bungie or anything, but I still feel like they're going to screw them one way or another.
Should have gone to MS or EA at the very least.

i imagine with the recent IW issues, Activision offered the best deali don't mind it it going multiplat. but their next game should have been publish by EA. Its a good thing bungie has guns, armor, and ban hammers in their studio. Just in case if activision does on what they did to IW. And don't forogt they got a puma. Now all we need to know is if its turret can shoot.
Yes, this is actually a sweet as roses deal for Bungie.

I agree.
This is almost identical to the deal that EA offered Respawn Entertainment, weirdly enough. EA's deal is slightly better, since it only seems to apply to a single title (unlike Bungie's long-term deal), but it's not far removed.
[QUOTE="Sp4rtan_3"][QUOTE="Microsoft1234"] i wouldn't be that comfortable yet, bungie stated its the last halo game they're developing but microsoft could eaily find another studio to develop halo and possibly ruin the franchiseJandurin343 handles all the halo related stuff (games movie, ect ect) and its made up of former bungie employees so I have high hoops for the franchise after reach. This deal on the other hand Idk about if its just one IP then bungie seems to have sequels planned if its a 10 year deal

Activision still profits. I was hoping with the loss of IW developers, Activision would crash & burn. The devil of the gaming industry would be destoryed. But now my favourite developer has renewed them. I'm seriously considering skipping Halo Reach, my most anticipated game this generation. If it means boycotting my favourite game in my own personal attempt to bring down the cancer of the industry, I'll do it.
This is one crazy pipe dream.
First of all, it's Activision Blizzard, which is important to remember because with WoW alone, the company should be fine. Losing IW is major, but its not enough to make the largest video game publisher crash and burn.
And your personal boycott is fruitless too-- Halo Reach will sell very well. This internet rage that seems so large scale is, in reality, a very vocal and annoying minority. Nothing more.
The deal is happening regardless, and the guys over at Bungie and Activision could care less about a few thousand people who boycott this deal by not buying Reach.
it's funny because i barely ever am interested in anything activision has to offer. this current news intrigues me a lotI do not care for Activision, but I am still anxious to see what kind of multiplat that Bungie has in store for us. If it appeals to me, then I will buy it. My disdain for Activision is not going to stop me from enjoying a game that appeals to me.

I admit that it intrigues me as well. All I care about is the game, and I am hoping for the best.

So this means that:
- Bungie is not owned by Activision, as Infinity Ward is.
- Bungie owns this new IP that Activision will publish. This will make it harder for Activision to screw with that IP.
- Bungie's deal only extends to the unnamed new IP. They can publish other sorts of games with any publisher.
Still, I'm rather shocked. This sort of deal seemed to be something that only EA did. Given all the Infinity Ward drama going on, you'd think that other FPS developers would steer away from Activision.

Also, people should look at it from Bungies perspective. They are the biggest publishers in the world. Bungie has seen the marketing power they can pull off (MW2). They want to make that kind of money. Im sure they want to be on that "Blizzard" like level.
I never liked the halo series but now that series is pretty much over, it's gonna get develop by microsoft so there is a huge chance of it becoming even crappier then it was.
Everyone is happy except 360 owners, oh well
Publishing rights are something to be incredibly weary of. If it was just distribution I wouldn't be fussed, but this, this is something else.Activision is just going topublish their games. All the rights of the future games and franchises will still belong to Bungie.
Activision didn't just buy out Bungie. They just signed a contract to publish their games.
No need to panic.

Why are people hating on this? :?
If anything, it'll just mean they will be doing multiplatform titles for the future for everyone to enjoy. Im interested to see what they have for the PS3 and something besides Halo, I know they're more talented than that.
People need to stop hating so much on the future that they can't see.

I hope Bungie is smart enough not to get in any crazy ****. We'll see.... 10 years is a long time lol.Activision is just going topublish their games.
