Bungie quiet on PS3 development

Bungie has refused to comment on whether its first post-Halo: Reach release is being developed for PS3 - but hasn't taken the opportunity to deny it, either.

Since separating from Microsoft in 2007, the firm is free to develop on multiple platforms - and the rumour mill is rife that its new title will be available on Sony's console.

However, when CVG put the question to Bungie community boss Brian Jarrard, he said the decision was "undefined right now".

He told CVG:

"I mean, I think our whole future's kind of undefined right now and it's definitely not something we're going to be comfortable getting into too much detail about.

"We've had another team internally [other than those making Reach] for quite a while now - they've been working on the genesis of what will become our next big thing.

"It's a little premature to get into specifics, but you know I think we have a really good mix of old blood and new blood in the studio."

If anyone remembers when Bungie split from Microsoft, they said they now had the option to develop for whatever platform they wished. But what the finished on was that they have had such a great career creating games for Microsoft that they would most likely continue doing so.

Hard to say. Honestly, I would be surprised if it did come out for PS3. But at the same time, I can't understand why they would go through the trouble of buying their freedom back from MS's ownership if they didn't want to develop for other consoles. I mean, if they were just going to be exclusive MS developers anyway, why breaking from them?

If they do, great! If not no big loss to be honest. Now Bioware on the other hand...

Because Bungie has never made any RTSs, no action adventures, They were a studio created in 2001 and made Halo: Combat Evolved that year, that is the only thing they have ever done.

Also you have to realize that Bungie doesn't have a major publisher contract (ms, ea, valve, activision). They could do an independent release, but it's very hard this day and age w/ huge game budgets, advertising, and tons of legal issues.

MS get first refusal on any new projects, so i doubt we'll see anything on the ps3 too soon. Unless it's an obscure looking title, MS will have nothing to do with, but this isn't likley, anything with the Bungie name is likely to sell.

To be an Officer in The Halo Union, you have to know a thing or two about Bungie and Halo.

MS owns the Halo IP. No chance for it going to Sony's systems... ever.

As for post-Halo Reach, it's possible, though like Insomniac's relations with Sony, Bungie's games have to go through approval with MS first, I believe? If MS declines, they can go to another publisher.

I agree about the game but let's put that aside for the moment just think of the beautiful ownage this would trigger this will be bigger than the Final Fantasy going 360(even though FF series was never exclusive)

There is no exclusivity deal, MS owns the IP.

Yeah, not sure how I'm a "blind" fanboy. As I hinted at earlier, I would LOVE it if Valve got off their stubborn asses and started making games for the PS3, as I'm a big fan of the L4D games. Valve is a talented company who isn't afraid to try new things (see Portal). Bungie is the exact opposite.

Their fanbase is with the xbox and they have microsoft publishing and marketing their games, bungie aren't just gunna throw all that away, their not stupid.G-O-M-J

money talks who cares about fanbase they get more money being multiplatform.

now that they are free from microsoft they will most likely bring the halo series to PS3.

I would love for them to bring a Halo collection that would be sweet.
