Microsoft and Halo3 creator Bungie split

First Epic, then PGR creator Bizarre Creations, now Bungie.

What do you think is going on with Microsoft and their developer relationships?

From what I hear when M$ gets a chance to push devs around they do push quite a bit, thats why lots of devs seem to be breaking off and working with them on there own terms.

did you read the artical? or just see the top headline? "Bungie says they will continue to produce games exclusively for Microsoft, but will gain more creative freedom in the game titles they develop. Official terms of the deal have not yet been released."so no games on the ps3 from bungie! Epic was never owned by Microsoft they just own the rights too gears of war 1 and 2.
so before you post a new topic.( by the way tnx for the link) get your facts straight! and read what you post!

I hear MS of all companies bends over backwards, ranging from the press, to developers and even the little guy.

First off, before you make a new topic, take the time to look and see if there's already a thread about it.

Secondly, learn the facts; know what you're talking about because you come off as clueless. Bizarre Creations was never owned by MS; MGS simply published their PGR series. Neither was Epic.

Thirdly, read the article on this page to understand the Bungie/ MS situation: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12834

It's a positive move, actually. For gamers, Bungie....and MS.

Bungie gets what it wants, which is independence to persue new IPs. MS gets first dibs on Bungies games, so the win.

Its very much a win win, and I love it, as I want more new IPs now that the Halo story is done, and Bungie is a very creative, talented developer.

MS never owned Epic and Bizzare so I dont know what you're talking about.

And MS will still publish all of Bungie's games for the forseeable future, so nothing is changing here.

It sounded like M$ wanted Bungie to make just Halo games and nothing else.....Which would suck if you have ideas and you are not allowed to use them

And don't forget to add the name of the company that made Crimson Skies to that list M$ just closed them down...Which sucks because CS was one of my favs from the XBox

I think after reading from Gamespot "and will retain its primary focus on Microsoft platforms." To me that mean that we can expect to see all Bungie games come to the PC quicker than it did with M$ controled them.....But hey I am getting that all from one line and the past history of other M$ games.

We don't know the specifics, so that is complete speculation at this stage. I just think that Bungie, being an independent dev for so long, wanted that freedom back so that they make their own deadlines, ideas, etc.

What kinda nonsense is this?

Epic is a PC developer first and foremost. Always has been.

Bizarre Creations was an independent company that had a relationship with MS (kinda like Bungie is about to do now) that decided they wantedstronger backing and sold to Activision. Obviously MS didn't want to buythem.

That just leaves Bungie, who of course wants to be independent now. They have the hottestproperty ever. Which would YOu rather do, be with a company (no matter how good that company treats you) that makes All the money from your work and pays you a salary (no matter how good that salary may be), or beself owned, andmake the bulk of the profit from whatever your next property is. MS had two choices. Let them go back independent, or wait forsomeone to leave and start a good studio and watch all the talentrush to that new company.MS took the smart choice.

lets get one thing straight here.. Bungie have not said they wont make a new halo.. they have just said they want the freedom to do what they want. but pretty much every game they make will end up on the xbox 360 system.

"Bungie has long been built on creativity, originality and the freedom to pursue ideas. Microsoft agreed, and rather than stifle our imagination, they decided it was in both our best interests to unleash it. We'll continue to make Xbox 360 games, and we'll continue to make amazing games for MGS. In that regard, nothing has changed. All that has changed is that now Bungie Studios is once again, the property of the folks of Bungie Studios. Microsoft is and will continue to be, a brilliant, inventive and creatively collaborative publishing partner. Practically speaking, nothing has changed and you guys won't see much," from weekly update

so still xbox 360

If Epic is foremost a PC developer then why is Gears taking so long to get to PC? For a short while Microsoft and Epic were bonded at the hip with X360, but that has changed rather quickly. A good example is Unreal coming to PC and PS3 first and supporting mods. Not so with X360.

Bizarre is independent but was to X360 like Insomniac is to PS3. Now that's not the case.

My question was why do you think Microsoft is losing key developer relationships. This is bad news for X360 gamers.
