Bungie Says It Loves Xbox and PlayStation Fans Equally

Yes indeed on July 17th. I wasn't a fan of the Alpha and I'm not expecting much, but it was a solid little game for what they were trying to do and what I witnessed. I'll give Destiny another go since the asking price was free...heh.

Once in the Destiny Beta, Bungie asks the Platform. The PS4 gets more time than the Xbone, so that's the Beta I'm going to do.

"The online beta for Destiny will arrive on Xbox One and Xbox 360 starting July 23rd and run until 2:59AM ET on July 28th.

Those in the PlayStation camp are still getting a better deal; on PS3 and PS4, the upcoming beta kicks off July 17th. With how often Bungie states this it seems pretty apparent that what they've been doing with Destiny has been rustling the jimmies of their community for quite a while.

Yeah, the game doesn't look that great. But in no way is it "being pushed as a PS4 exclusive" and a trip to any game store makes that obvious with preorders being pushed for four (4!!!!) consoles and the platforms listed CLEARLY on any promotional material. What we have here is XBox fanboys flipping out over a practice that is both old and from which they have repeatedly been the beneficiary, and it's almost as sad as it is hilarious.

It wasn't that long ago that we were seeing Fallout DLC announced as exclusive to the 360 with absolutely no information on a possible release on other platforms for what? 6 months? Now XB1ers already know the details and they're still acting like spoiled children.

A last point: Bungie didn't make this agreement. Activision did, and it almost certainly has to do with Kotick's displeasure with MS going crazy with their Titanfall tie in. Kotick viewed MS as an ally (from years of these very types of agreements) and the heads of Respawn as enemies. This promotional agreement is a warning to MS that Activision has options, pure and simple.

Frankly a couple months ago I would've said this was a complete waste of time and money. But the fanboy whining has given both Sony and Activision exactly the response they dreamed of. Unbelievable.

The game is being marketed more towards the PS4 than the other platforms. It a smart move for bungie since they would need to give ps3/ps4 owners enough reason to pick up the game. Giving them first shot at alpha/beta and exclusive DLC is all just to help give them a good first impression. Personally for me the DLC doesn't appear to be anything worth bragging or crying about as opposed to the Fallout 3 and GTA4 DLC

@mems_1224: Welcome to last gen for Playstation fans. PS fans had to sit back as Resident Evil, Ace Combat, Final Fantasy, and Tomb Raider get pushed as 360 exclusives. In addition, 360 wasn't even as dominant as PS4 looks to be. Get over it, PS4 is the money maker this gen.

Of course, I don't think anyone around here DOESN'T know about the continuing CoD relationship, but that doesn't negate my point. Kotick isn't an idiot and craves money like an addict his fix. He's not going to cancel a long standing and lucrative partnership with MS when he can use his new franchise to send this message. And look around: it's working. Of course you're right that CEOs aren't playing "console wars" but if you think there's nothing personal between Kotick and Respawn I've got a bridge to sell you.

The main point was that it's moronic for fanboys to blame any of this on Bungie, because this decision has nothing to do with the dev. It's a publishing move, and one you'd think people would be used to by now, especially around here. I'd be happy to see these deals go away, but I'm not going to act like a child when one comes along.

@freedomfreak: They may say that, but they sure have positioned Destiny to be a PS4 game that is "also" available on XBox platforms. Kind of like what Ubisoft did with Splinter Cell.

It's not the exclusive content per say. It's the fact that they are basically crapping on the fanbase that supported them, and helped them to grow into the company they are.

To put it into perspective for PS people. Imagine Naughty Dog going multi-platform with their next big game. Then offering exclusive DLC for it for Xbox only. It wouldn't go over well right?

Personally I don't really care since I'm not getting Halo on Mars anyway, and if I were I would be able to get it for my PS4. However, I do get what the fanbase is pissed off over.

I went into the alpha with zero expectations and came out really liking it and wanting to play more, I even went and pre-ordered just to get into the beta.

Now sure why anyone even cares about this since Namco, Capcom, SquareEnix and another 1/2 developers turned their backs on Sony last gen when they mades exclusive games like Ace Combat 6, Tales of Vesperia, Naruto: Rise of the Ninja, Lost Odyssey, Ridge Racer 6, Infinite Undiscovery, etc.. for the XBox 360 only. At least Destiny is multiplat. If gamers are that angry, just don't buy it. Voice your opinion with your wallets.

I do get why people are complaining. Personally I don't care about DLC has its not the full game. Plus its only Timed Exclusive therefore its going to be coming out on Xbox Eventually anyhow. Besides that from what we hear its only a map and few bits like weapons and clothing so its nothing major. Also Xbox Gamers liked to rub it in PSGamers faces when Titanfall came out exclusively on Xbone as am sure they will do when Sunset overdrive comes out. So in a way its WTF they kicking off for when they got EXCLUSIVE games coming out.

A final note Bungie did state at last years E3 that PS had the extra DLC content deal... BEFORE the consoles were released. If not having armour or whatever TIMED DLC is what your (meaning the gamers in question) complaining about then and is so important then why buy the XBONE when you knew before both consoles were released.

Bungie is a company. The aim of a company is to make money. If you feel "betrayed" or "stabbed in the back" by a company then it is time to readjust your thought process.

IMO Bungie / ACTIVISION made a mistake with there DLC, they should have sold both Sony and MS a DLC deal. That way everyone would have been happy and they wouldn't have lost some X1 sales.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Myth and Marathon weren't run away successes like Halo than age. I don't know anyone of any age who were aware of Myth or Marathon prior to Halo bringing Bungie to the spotlight.

The creative freedom to do what? Turn Halo into into Borderlands? I doubt Microsoft would have minded, cheaper than creating a brand new studio from scratch.

The reason Bungie left was money. They wanted to sell their games on more systems and they wanted to reap more from their ip, which is fine, but lets not turn this into anything more. Bungie isn't delivering some sort of artistic vision not possible at Microsoft, Destiny isn't a risky proposition. They just wanted more money and their partnership with Activision should make that glaringly obvious.

Working with Sony or Nintendo wouldn't have made that desire any different, which by the way, is why Bungie is offering exclusive content on Sony platforms. Money. From Sony.

If Bungie were concerned with putting this on the best platform it'd be on PC. Bungie offering exclusive content on Playstation has everything to do with money and not with their beliefs on systems

I agree with you. I'm a big Halo fan and I'm not sure about Destiny. When Bungie left Microsoft I was hoping we where going to get some bold new IP from them but it looks like we have a Halo/borderlands mashup that could potentially not be as good as either. It's very similar in style to Halo, enemies look similar, even a homage to guilty spark 343 in the game lol.

1. Bungie wants to make an ambitious game.
2. Activision agrees to fund it, but needs to find the biggest market.
3. Last gen, the Wii had the biggest market, but Xbox 360 and PS3 combined is bigger.
4. The trend is similar, except PS4 is now in the lead and Xbox One dead last.
5. PS4 and Xbox One uses the same architecture now, while the Wii U opts for PowerPC according to Engadget.
6. Going by Engadget's argument, it doesn't matter how badly Xbox One sells. It can piggyback off of PS4 due to similar architecture.
7. PS4 and Xbox shares the same market in that regard.
8. Thus, Bungie comes out and says "it loves Xbox and Playstation fans equally".

It's good PR, it's accurate according to them, and it eases sentiments.
