So now that Bungie and Insomniac have gone multiplat, which one will help the HD console they weren't on before more?

Will Bungie get more new fans, recognition, better games, etc. on the PS3?

Or will Insomniac get more new fans, recognition, better games, etc. on the 360?

We'll just have to wait and see which new IP is better. I doubt Bungie can pull another HALOGODGAME out of their ass...

Insominac ... xbox doesn't have many platformers if they go that route. While the PS3 has both platformers and shooters. And Personally I can't stand halo.. so unless its a myth type game or something totally new....I could care less about what bungie brings. /puts on flameshield for the halo reference.

Arguable. Insomniac doesn't have a HALOGODGAME but they're still well-established and a "premier" dev. It's not like you have to sell HALOGODGAME or MW2 numbers to be "premier".

I think Bungie will have a bigger impact. Insomniac makes games that are usually just seen as 'good'. Bungie is responsible for making the Halo series as popular as it is and I'm sure their talent could be used to produce any genre and it be consider great.

Bungies first super great game was halo (right?). Insomniac has done consistently great things.

And ratchet and clank rocks.

I would say Bungie, moreso because it's a greater loss to the 360, than Insomniac is to the PS3.

Halo games made the Xbox and Xbox 360. They're the console line's killer apps.

Ratchet and Resistance are just games that are part of the PS3's library.

I'm sure Microsoft will try and keep the Halo franchise going, but I don't see it being nearly as big or as well received without Bungie at the helm.

They were a legend on the Mac before Microsoft bought them.

Oh TC, just because these companies are not owned by either Sony or Microsoft it doesn't necessarily mean they won't be publishing for just one system.

Why?

Also, Resistance is overshadowed by almost every other major FPS series in a criticial sense and R&C is a franchise that has been stagnant for a LONG time and has never pushed the platforming genre forward. I fail to see how they have created some of the best franchises in gaming.

I would assume Bungie right now. They have the hot name right now, and apparently a name big enough that Activision is willing to give Bungie a deal that Bungie is more than happy with(complete freedom, and none of Activisions milkage? it's almost too good to be true). Quality wise I'll take Bungie as well though. Insomniac has been way too shakey this gen. Although Crack in Time was a fun game(wasn't a fan of ToD, or the resistance games)

Easily bungie. They are a much more established developer. Anyone that says they only know how to make halo or FPS games have no idea what they are talking about.

ummm....yes you do. that's how you become a premier developer. the more popular your products, the more your company is worth, the more credibility and notoriety you get. der/

I'm looking forward to what Insomniac has to offer more. Unless it's an FPS, because..Resistance sucks. If it's a platformer, cool, cause Ratchet and Clank kicks ass.

Whether you like Halo or not, it is hard to deny the impact they've had on the FPS genre.

In comparison, Insomniac has never had any impact on anything. R&C was an incredible platformer back in its PS2 glory days, but it didn't have any lasting impact (it was mostly a highly polished and personality-filled mix of alot of 90's platforming conventions) and that series has become so stagnant. Some of the Spyro games were great platformers, but there was much more notable stuff out at the time. Resistance? The only reason the first got the attention it did was having literally nothing to compete with on the PS3 at the time. Outside of that, it is just another highly derivative FPS. Not to mention that the 2nd took a page out of the Halo playbook.

Bungie for sure in terms of sales. It's a toss up game wise since both developers know how to craft more than one type of genre of games.

As said Bungie is a premier dev. One of the big dogs of the industry. They also have the financial backing from Activision now.

Really though, until we see what these new IPs actually are, it'll be hard to tell. Bungie does have more clout by far, but the game they are making might not appeal to people.

How does Insomniac have more variety?

Bungie: Marathon, Myth, Halo, Oni. Two FPS games, one strategy game, a third person action game.

Insomniac: Spyro, Ratchet, Resistance. Two platformers and an FPS.

Bungie made one amazing game in Halo : CE but Im not big fan of the sequels though, it had the curse of the sequels just like in DMC, Silent Hill and lots of other series, they didn't take risks with the core mechanics, they didn't find different content to provide, to be honest though, I know what puts me off the most, it's the universe, I don't like repeated worlds to visit in every sequel , the most they are doing now is with reach which is much appreciated, new world to visit, new flavor to the core mechanics by mixing classes, space battles...etc so what Im trying to say is the new IP will have a larger impact than what Insominiac is cooking just like the first Halo : CE, as far as sequels go , I think they will just play it safe until they feel pressured or whatever the reason could be. But hey maybe their next new IP would be one of the most enjoyable games I'll ever play making me a big fan that doesn't demand different approaches in each outing.

As for insominiac, the only games I really liked is Resistance 1 and the the first Spyro game but it's better to see a developer willing to invest their time and effort in new IPs in shorter periods of time , that makes me and the industry more enthusiastic and interested, they just love to create new IPs maybe because they didn't find their "it" game yet I don't know what is exactly the reason maybe if they made a hit or a franchise that sells 10M maybe they wouldn't made these new IPs, overall they are hit or miss but who knows maybe partnering with EA would make them much more of a capable devs.

Yeah I give insomniac a hard time for sucking this gen, but I have to give them some props for atleast getting out of their comfort zone. Bungie hasn't gotten away from Halo in a decade, and if that next game they make is a FPS they haven't left the FPS genre in over a decade as well.

I hope they do a third person game. Maybe an Oni styIed game in terms of gameplay. Not because Oni was good. On the contrary it was dog crap. I just want a nice merger of guns, awesome melee action, and explosions with a Bungie level of polish. That sound entertaining to me :)

Aren't both turning multiplat? Couldn't you only decide if Insomniac was working on a 360 exclusive, and Bungie was working on a PS3 one?

That doesn't take away from legacy though in which Bungie has shwon they can do more than one genre. Although it should be held against Bungie that by a "what have you done for me lately" standard. They are the Halo guys. For a decade that is the only thing they have been. Those guys that make Halo games.

Maybe not but the games still exist.

But to be honest, neither Insomniac or Bungie have all that much variety in general. Tons of developers don't though.

It will atleast hopefully be a change of pace from Halo entirely. Not that I don't mind their brand of FPS, but I'm hoping that atleast their next franchise isn't a FPS. I don't mind if they do one franchise for another decade(well I guess I do) but at the least I hope it's not a FPS.

That doesn't take away from legacy though in which Bungie has shwon they can do more than one genre. Although it should be held against Bungie that by a "what have you done for me lately" standard. They are the Halo guys. For a decade that is the only thing they have been. Those guys that make Halo games.

No no no...I'm not taking "ANYTHING" away for Bungie...I give them mad respect. Either way, I think both developers will bring something good to the table:)

How does Insomniac have more variety?

Bungie: Marathon, Myth, Halo, Oni. Two FPS games, one strategy game, a third person action game.

Insomniac: Spyro, Ratchet, Resistance. Two platformers and an FPS.

Maybe not but the games still exist.

But to be honest, neither Insomniac or Bungie have all that much variety in general. Tons of developers don't though.

Agreed:P

It will atleast hopefully be a change of pace from Halo entirely. Not that I don't mind their brand of FPS, but I'm hoping that atleast their next franchise isn't a FPS. I don't mind if they do one franchise for another decade(well I guess I do) but at the least I hope it's not a FPS. jg4xchamp

The new franchise was started before the Activision deal, thank God!! So they aren't able to put in their two cents (you know) "Hey, Bungie. You guys wanna make a game like this...we would appreciate it. And remember, we did buy your company."

I don't believe that Bungie is making another FPS, I would like to see something story driven. The Halo universe is so rich and unique that Bungie could really do well from something that different. Maybe an Action Adventure, because they did enjoy making Oni.

I've shown my displeasure for that game alot, but I do agree it would give them a nice new look. An eastern influenced aesthetic with a type of gameplay that isn't very common(as in a game that is both about shooting and melee at an equal level. Come on now the big ones you can really name are Enter the Matrix and Oni).
