woops.. http://www.videogamer.com/news/30-01-2008-7383.html

Burnout Paradise has impressed gamers since its release last week, but the Xbox 360 version isn't the same for everyone. Reports from gamers suggested that the game needs a hard drive for online play, meaning owners of Core and Arcade Xbox 360s can't play the game online.

Having been totally unaware of this, we hunted down our retail 360 copy of the game to look at what was said on the case. After close inspection we finally saw the text.

"Online multiplayer 2-8/hard drive required" read the orange text on the second line of the game information on the rear of the case.

any core owners that can confirm or deny this?

Yes but that's an assumption - it's still a load of garbage that the 360 didn't come with a HDD as standard. Poor Lems I guess.

Why poor lems? :s They can go out and, you know, BUY it if they wanted. You make out like it's a bad thing their given an option. Options are always better than having something forced onto you.

Yeah, why can't I not have a GPU and save money on that? I can then go out and buy one later, it won't be forced on me then.

Terrible news to be honest, not that my 360 is working anyway but I don't have a HDD. Halo 3's new stuff also requires a HDD so I never got to try that either :(.

Are you serious? You think that the lack of a hard drive is something that should be optional? Not in this day and age my friend.

Right, I'm sure the Arcade owners are the most educated owners of the bunch. I'm sure they knew when they bought the cheap model that they wouldn't be able to experience all of the 360 games.

We got lems freaking about the lack of BC on the PS3. Yet, every PS3 model playes EVERY PS3 game. I would think most would find it more of a bad thing to not be able to play current games rather than games from last gen.

Lol. Slow news day.

To play any xbox game online you need a hard drive.

So to play burnout online the conclusion of this story is that you need a hard drive!

Brilliant.

miked? if you get the premium 360 you don't have to buy a hard-drive, and this definately shows you don't have a 360, because the premium even comes with a silver account

Every 360 plays every 360 game too. :| I don't know how you can jump to an implication like that based on not being able to play something online.

Every 360 plays every 360 game also. You just won't be able to play online. I thought that was very clear. Just like every PS3 owner can't play every PS2 game, play games with rumble or voice chat online. It's just a missing feature depending on what unit you buy. Stop being an alarmist.

Well you can't play a single BC Xbox game on the X360 core or Arcade sku without a $100 HD upgrade. You realize that right? MS is shafting Core and Arcade owners. It was dumb of them to even have those skus, but still it's a slap in the face to people who have purchased those. Nowhere has MS ever implied you would need a HD to play online. I'm pretty active in the gaming community and I've never heard that before.

Im sorry but its a ps3 not a ps2 so BC isnt a big deal, and I use voice chat with most ps3 online games all the time? Not being able to play online which is the biggest selling point with the 360 really makes it the biggest rip in gaming, you only get to play half the game if ur missing online with a lot of games, jesus what a rip off why is the 360 even close to what the ps3 is in price again? no blu-ray drive, no WIFI and you have to pay to play online even though there is no DS only P2P, and to top it off it sounds loud as and has a good chance of getting RROD, they need a price drop on the 360 sometime soon, but microsoft feel free to keep it at the same price so ps3 can continue to gain in worldwide sales.

Its not the first game to use this, Crackdown also requires HDD for all multiplayer stuff.

And too people who said you need a HDD to play anygame online, thats simply not true. All you would need is a memory card to store the profile on.

A. Im sorry but its a ps3 not a ps2 so BC isnt a big deal

Then why are people in this very thread complaining about not being able to play Xbox games?

B. I use voice chat with most ps3 online games all the time?

Not if you don't buy a mic, which costs extra, just like a HD or memory card for the 360

C.no WIFI

Ethernet is just fine, if not better than Wifi unless your console is far away from your router or your you don't want to run cables. Wifi is a convience, not a neccessity for most people. I use ethernet for both my 360 and my PS3.

It has been a well established fact since the 360 lanched that the arcade units cannot access XBL unless you have a HD or memory stick. Pay more attention to the facts.

If you buy an arcade unit expecting to download stuff from XBL, then that's your fault that you didn't do better research before you spent you money. The same goes for people expecting BC from a 40 gig PS3 or rumble from any of the PS3 units.

This really isn't news dude.

Let's not twist real info with fakeness. First, you are comparing someone with a current gen system not being able to enjoy all that the gen offers to someone with a current gen system not being able to play last gen games. Weak comparison, homes. Some may buy a current gen system with previous gen games in mind. But ALL buy a current gen system for current gen games and features.
Second, are you really briging up rumble? You know that's a timed argument, don't you? You know the rumble function has been added to all new PS3 games and the new rumble controlers will be out shortly, right? Can you still play every PS3 game and online for every available game with a non-rumble controller? Yes.
Third, you talk about chat like its non-existant. That no PS3 player can chat online. First off, most online PS3 games have voice support. Do you think Warhawk, retail, comes with a mic to throw away. Also, as most know, in-game XMB will be here soon and will give full chat support like Live.

Tell me one PS3 model., with what it offers from the box, that would not allow its owner to play ANY PS3 game. The point is, you can't. But I can name a few 360 models that screw somebody.

Yes but that's an assumption - it's still a load of garbage that the 360 didn't come with a HDD as standard. Poor Lems I guess.

Why poor lems? :s They can go out and, you know, BUY it if they wanted. You make out like it's a bad thing their given an option. Options are always better than having something forced onto you.

tell that to eye toy/hdd for the ps 2. add-ons never get the support as a standard feacture making it a waste of money for the person who buys it. funny it is ok for them to force you to use there harddrive that is twice as much as a standard harddrive.

Wow, that is not good. I always thought the Arcade was ridiculous but this is just horrible. So how many more games will be like this in the future? Right now it's very few ( Two, correct? ) but it could possibly get much worse. I don't really know how this could be fixed.

Every 360 plays every 360 game also. You just won't be able to play online. I thought that was very clear. Just like every PS3 owner can't play every PS2 game, play games with rumble or voice chat online. It's just a missing feature depending on what unit you buy. Stop being an alarmist.

I am only comparing FEATURES. BC is a feature, online play, rumble, voice chat, All features. OK? Just like the 360, On the PS3 there are certain FEATURES missing depending on the model you buy.

Yes, I mentioned rumble. It's a feature that ALL 360 owners currently enjoy. You have to BUY A NEW CONTROLLER to utilize the rumble feature in the PS3 games that support it.

Third, you talk about chat like its non-existant. That no PS3 player can chat online. First off, most online PS3 games have voice support. Do you think Warhawk, retail, comes with a mic to throw away. Also, as most know, in-game XMB will be here soon and will give full chat support like Live.

I never said Voicechat is nonexistant, nor did I imply such nonsense..You still have to buy Warhawk to utilize voicechat and if you don't have warhawk, you have to buy a mic. Voicechat is another feature currently available across all 360 games, not having to be included in a patch at a later time.

You clearly missed the point of the thread as no one is claiming you can't play Burnout at all, you just can't play online without a memory card...

And PLEASE name a 360 model that will not allow you to play any 360 game...This I gotta see.

Tell me lemmings, does the Arcade not get system updates? I mean, if you have to have an HDD just to play online, wouldn't you need one for system updates? Or are updates merely "features" that aren't needed?

 You're kidding, right? ANY 360 without a HDD cannot play all 360 games. If you think so, tell me how they download the live arcade games and play them.

Is this thread aimed at the 10 people who bought the core version? Honestly, if you are anything more than a very light casual than the harddrive is clearly the best option. If people don't do research before buying a console that costs several hundred dollars than they are asking for these kinds of situations.

Sounds neat. Download a couple games and you have to erase to get more. Great deal. NO, that person wouldn't miss out on a thing........ You download two games maxing at 250 and your 512 card is full.

Still digging yourself into a hole. It's fine, I'll bite.

A. Most XBLA games are under 50 megs, there are currently 2 games, I think that go above that. You can delete the games and reinstall them if you run out of space. It's a pain in the butt, true, but the games are still there in your account for later use.

I love how you glossed over the fact that in practically every post you made in this thread, you completely owned yourself. You never came up with the evidence that there are games that some 360's can't play and you completely missed the point of the thread, going on some diatribe about how people got screwed because they can't play Burnout. Which is completely false.

The next time you want to debate about something, please bring real knowledge with you.

whearas those who buy the 40gig ps3, get to play 5 or so games before needing to delete all the crap that blu-ray has to dump on to your hard drive just to play the game!sts106mat

 Speak on what you know. I have 60 GB PS3, have since launch. I currently have 7 games and their data on my HDD. Right now, I have only used 31GB of HDD space for all of the game data, game saves, music, videos, and pictures. You can erase game data and save game save data without issue. So, when you go to play a title thats been sitting a while, you just resave the game data and use the game save data you kept.

I don't think this is a very good point for you to make considering there are many out there with a 20GB HDD in their 360. Not to mention the arcaders who have the stellar 512mb memory.

I'm sorry. I guess its not right to say that an arcade owner would miss out on Halo 3. Everyone knows you buy that for the single player. Or CoD4, who plays that online? And everyone knows that the offline Burnout is the real reason people would spend $60 on the game. I don't know what I'm thinking.

Nor should I even ask about system updates and how an arcade owner deals with those.....

BTW, find in my posts where I made a point that arcade owners couldn't play Burnout. I said they can't play ALL of Burnout and the most important part.

Whats it going to take for you lemmings to realize that MS isn't giving you "teh options" but, instead, are giving you a cheap model where they hope you concentrate on that price tag instead of what lays ahead? You don't think there will be offline sections of games that will need the HDD in this gen?
