this thread is dumb. the arcade / core model is there for people who want to play games offline. if you want to go online, go get a hard drive. thats one of things with 360. there are options MS is not FORCING stuff on you if you dont need it. a cheaper console with less features appeals to a minority of people, people on a budget.
i bet you wont get many lems in this thread complaining they cant play LIVE burnout on their arcade / core model.
Memory cards are available for those on a budget who just want to play offline and be-able to save their games like PS2 was. WTF is the problem.
sts106mat
why would you need a harddrive to play a game online?.
So you dropped $280 on an Arcade, then you forked over $50 for XBL, then you wasted $100 to buy the crappy wireless thing instead of just running a cable, then you picked up an extra controller for $50 and bought Burnout Paradise for $60, then since the Arcade does not have a headset or HD cables you bought those seperately also for another $50 or so.......
Ok, man yeah, that's a very serious problem, the problem being this hypothetical person that just dropped $600 dollars on the 360 yet failed to get the HDD.
How do you guys even come up with your poorly thought out complaints?
I wish you guys would quit phoning it in.
I'm sorry. I guess its not right to say that an arcade owner would miss out on Halo 3. Everyone knows you buy that for the single player. Or CoD4, who plays that online? And everyone knows that the offline Burnout is the real reason people would spend $60 on the game. I don't know what I'm thinking. You never said that until now. But hey, we all gotta cover our butts somehow. Like I said, you have no crediblity. You don't have any facts to back up what you are saying. At least I actually own a PS3 and a 360, so if I have any thing to say about it, it's from personal experience and not just pulling random info out my butt. You really need to to chill. It's one thing to bash MS with some legit complaints (there are plenty) but when you have to make stuff up to prove some nonexistent point, it's beyond sad. ALL 360's can play online you either need a memory card or a HD to do so. This has been said many times already. Your point is INVALID.Nor should I even ask about system updates and how an arcade owner deals with those.....
BTW, find in my posts where I made a point that arcade owners couldn't play Burnout. I said they can't play ALL of Burnout and the most important part.
Whats it going to take for you lemmings to realize that MS isn't giving you "teh options" but, instead, are giving you a cheap model where they hope you concentrate on that price tag instead of what lays ahead? You don't think there will be offline sections of games that will need the HDD in this gen?
The_Crucible
For less then the price of a game, core owners can instantly become premium owners by adding a 20 gig HDD !!! :?
Xbox 360 20 GB Hard Drive BRAND NEW!! UNUSED!!!it was already established that this is not true. You dont need a harddrive to play online as a rule. That may be changing. Bottom line is that people with the core and arcade systems are getting less than they thought they were gettingbecause of system updates etc. its not needed, but it seems burnout might need it. whoppeee.
and as for the burnout thing ibacai. you can play all of burnouts single player game. if you read earlier in the thread (My first post). we had said that most people with a core system / arcade wont play online anyway, so for them they are playing burnout for the single player not the multi.
PS you cant play warhawk on ps3 without a broadband connection! so whos faults that? sonys or yours for not getting a broadband connection. same thing

Oh, right. It makes alot of sense to buy an arcade model and to buy an HDD to play online. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the low price to start with, doesn't it? That's the point we're making. They are setting people up for milkage. Hoping they only focus on now instead of what they may want in 6 months.
An, again I ask, how does a non-HDD 360 get system updates? Are you ever going to answer this?
he probably doesn't know because he doesn't have the core system. I think that updates use an internal memory apart from the harddrive. I could be wrong. I think this is true because I would have noticed the space missing on my puny wii hard drive, since I've had many updatesAn, again I ask, how does a non-HDD 360 get system updates? Xbox LIVE: Xbox LIVE is where games and entertainment come alive, the only unified place where you can play with anyone, anytime, anywhere. And the best just got better. Connect Xbox 360 to your broadband connection, attach a storage device (hard drive or memory unit) and get instant access to Xbox LIVE Silver. Express your digital identity through your gamertag and gamer card, talk with others using voice chat, and access Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
MS
I don't, and why it doesn;t work on a MS baffles me, if your going to be sending hundreds of MB's of data every few minutes, then you need a good broadband line and bandwidth. I think they could make it to not require a HDD, but they haven't, now I know I won't be getting this, unless they fix it or I get a HDD.who really cares? if you can afford broadband and live gold, you probably already have the hard drive.

Selective reading begets selective knowledge. It's been said many times....A MEMORY CARD. the seasonal system updates are usually under 10 megs. the 360 Winter update was 7 megs.As for people buying An Arcade unit and being setup for milkage. The only person setting them up is themselves. Get a Premium, end of story. You aren't being forced to buy the Arcade unit, it's a choice. Quite possibly a bad one for some people, but that's their fault. If you try and cheap out in the present with an Arcade, it's only going to cost you in the future. That isn't Microsoft's fault.

They download them to a memory card. You have absolutely no crediblity.......homes.Sounds neat. Download a couple games and you have to erase to get more. Great deal. NO, that person wouldn't miss out on a thing........ You download two games maxing at 250 and your 512 card is full.
Most arcade games have a max memory limit of 50MB as required by Microsoft. Still kinda bites.

No, most arcade games are 50mb because of the prior limits. they now reaised it to 250mb. And why did they do that? Beacuse they want to use it all. And what happens whenn that starts happening?

Not making a point here, I really don't know. How much space does online need? if you have a 512md card, some of it will be filled with game saves, dl games, and updates. How much space does Live need to run on the same card?

listen, i think every xbox 360 should be a premium at least. they all should come standard with a HDD. but the fact is there are also cores and they play games online... i have no idea how much space it takes. but you can go online with a CORE... and PLAY online with a CORE.

great. they never should have made cores... they regret it now.. now they can't make games that use the harddrive for single player because of that stupid core.

I use a 512 memory card for backup. You can save plenty of save games on it. It isn't the greatest primary solution, but it works. And for casuals who don't need everything that a premium system offers, it's fine. It blows for people that have premiums because MS wants every 360 to be able to play every 360 game, CONTRARY TO WHAT SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE, but it is what it is.Anyone going to answer the question about system updates on a HDD-less 360?The_Crucible
That's a good question that I'm trying to find the answer too. The arcade OS has to run off of something in the system, and is the system update "flashed" like a bios where you can receive updates, or done some other way? Is there anyone with an Arcade that knows or someone that has a link?

The other question that goes with that is "How much space is needed to play online?" With only 512mb to work with, seems like a lot to try and fit game saves, dl games, updates, and live needs without having to remove stuff often. That is, if they all use the card. As you're saying, the updates may be stored internally.

The lack of HDD is easily fixed as I have posted here; a 20 gig HDD for less then the price of a game. The lack of B.C. on the new PS3's - not so much.

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2006/10/30/dash-update-details-officially-revealed/
It's a fansite, but all the other sites I looked at said all connected 360's would receive the update. This one specifically stated even those with no hard drive.
Beginning the morning of Tuesday October 31, owners of the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from MicrosoftTM will be able to download a free system update that will provide more than 85 new features and enhancements, including support for native 1080p games and movies, faster Xbox Live Arcade game list display times and even more choices when it comes to video playback options.
This free update will be distributed via the Xbox Live® online gaming and entertainment network to all members (Xbox Live Silver and Xbox Live Gold) with no disc or hard drive required. Gamers without an Xbox Live account can easily sign up for free by connecting their console to a broadband Internet connection. Once online, downloading the update is fast and simple, and provides instant access to features such as:
You can also get updates via disc from xbox.com
Meh. The damn HDD should've been standard from the get go and MS really shot themselves in the foot by not including it. Although, I can't really find a way to feel sorry for those who bought a core or arcade without a Hard Drive (or as some folks like to call it, the big memory card that clips onto the top of the system). In this day and age, hard drives are almost required. MS saw this when they made the first Xbox and I'm shocked they didn't make it standard this time around as well.
