Buying a PS4/Xbone day one seems like a really dumb investment

Not to cause offense, just an observation. The graphical gap is smaller than it's ever been. Plenty of the games shown at E3 could easily pass for current gen games. A lot of the big hitters like Metal Gear Solid, COD, Battlefield, GTA, Destiny and plenty of others are already in development for current gen consoles too and will probably end up being the more solid versions; - last gen all of the first wave next-gen games were just rushed ports of current gen versions.


Anyway.... my point is simply that you could easily wait a year, have plenty of games to play, not really miss out on anything and then get a new console at a significantly reduced price with a few games bundled in.

Not enough on offer for a day one purchase, probably better to wait for a while a let more games release for whichever console you opt for. Though I must admit the PS4 is a far far more tempting offer than Xbone.

It's not necessary a bad purchasing decision if say you were deciding between spending money on a PC upgrade or buying a console. If you were deciding between spending money and not spending money... meh, depends on how much you like the release titles. 

To be honest, buying at release doesn't seem bad, considering how many great titles are lined up for 2014, witcher 3, destiny, etc. How much of a price cut can we expect in a year, $50 max?

I would agree with regards to the PS4 because it has no games. Lots of stuff going off on the X1 though :cool:

I don't see consoles as any type of investment period. I guess it can be in the economic sense of the word for some, but it's just a purchase to me. And neither one has enough to offer to warrant a day one purchase from me.

You are correct as far as the games are concerned but some people are buying it for the additional multimedia purposes so that makes it worth it to them!These systems aren't just for kids anymore...most adults see the value of a device that has multimedia functions.

For all the morons that buy I-pads and I-phones every year day one buying a console that I will enjoy for at least the next 5 years doesnt seem like a bad investment at all.

Agreed. The 360 and PS3 still have a lot of juice left. Of course it is all about the games for me. If both have a strong lineup out the gates, I may get both.

Word, getting a console at launch is dumb. Im all for people beta testing the console for a year or two until its finally worth getting though. :Pmems_1224

Bought both 360+PS3 at launch, only regretted the 360 because of RROD (6x) but otherwise they both worked great and I got my money's worth out of them in the long run.

I intend to buy PS4 at launch, though depending on what they'll fetch on eBay I'm uncertain I'll keep it.

Buying PS4 day 1 is good for gaming on PS4. The faster the console sales rise the more game developers will want to develop games for it.

Same here. I had a 360 get a failed HDD and then RRoD. My brother in law got RRoD 5 times. 

Also hearing about that MS has had to clock down the x1 due to overheating issues is a bad sign for hardware stability. Sony makes hardware with it's PCs and more. They know how to better build hardware to last.
