On the XBOX live Marketplace you are able to download Episodes from TV shows and such. But isnt it Cheaper and over all better to just go out and buy the Seasons on their native Disc Form? Let me use a Experince I had for a example. Purchased the Entire 3rd Season of American Dad from teh market place. It was 12 episodes and it took more than one 1600 point ($20) point card to download all the episodes. Now here the kicker, I then find out today that when teh 3rd Season hits stores (most likely this week) its going to be 29.99 (roughly what I paid for the Market place ones) adn its going to Have 18 Episodes! WTF! You mean I could have gotten 6 more Episodes for Roughly the same price as the Downloaded 12 if I jsut bought the Disc Version! and its better to have the discs because then I can bring them to a freinds house or something.

Teh question is, would you rather buy the stuff Via Marketplace, or just go to the Store and buy them in the Disc Form. Is this stuff a rip off?

I don't know if it is a Rip-off because I only read part of your post, but I Prefer Physical Media because I like being able to carry it and Displaying it on Shelves, But for people that lose games or Discs like my one friend they should use Digital Media, since those types of People always lose there Games and DVDs.

I would always rather buy and own a hardcopy of a movie or game. For one, what happens to the your movie collection when the next Xbox comes out? Will they allow you to move your movies from the old system to the new one or will you have to keep the old one too. Or what happens if (I know unlikly) MS doesnt make another system and you Xbox 360 dies. How will you get your movies back and where can you watch them. Do you have to pray your 360 last forever?

I buy DVds and Blu rays because I like the ability to play my movies on any player I chose and not be locked to one system. Not to mention that I can always sell them or trade them in for something different when I get sick of them.

I personally dont like teh Blu-Ray Pricing Strategy, but some would Argue you are getting 10 dollars worth of Differnce. I dont of Course. But how is this bigger than Paying Probaly MORE money for something that you cant Transport and keep FOREVER.

I pay like 20-24 for my blu rays and they offer FAR superior quality then the 16.99-19.99 DVD, so no its not a rip. Its about quality. Buying a movie on Live gives you not benefit but not having a case and not having to go to the store but brings up a whole bunch of other problems in the future.

Quality? Lol! You can get dvds for even less than the price you mentioned. The image quality isn't even worth the price.

Thats your opinion. To me if I am gonna own the movie it might as well be the best. Look at all those 2 disk editions that sell for more at almost the price of Blu ray movies for a couple special features. I own a 1080p TV and I can clearly see the difference in sound and video. If you dont see the difference thats your opinion. It might be your set up.

About the marketplace, I dont know im not a big fan of downloading movies I payed for, I just prefer having a 'hard-copy' e.a a disc. In case anything has to be reset or flips, + I can take discs to friends or watch them on something else then a ps3/360.

About the blu ray pricing, I have to agree 720p/1080i/1080P looks stunning when you first see it, but after having seen one or two movies I dont think the average 10 bucks more a disc is worth it. A good dvd player (such as in 360 and ps3) is able to upscale the resolution, I know this wont look as good as full blu-ray movies but imo it sure is a better bang for your buck. I rather wait till blu-ray pricing drops a little, just like what happened to DVD's a few years ago.

I believe in store and online but you have to look at the weekly add. Its every week their is a sale, its not always blu ray but for instance with the release of AVP R they are offering that when people buy AVP R on blu ray they can add EITHER Commando or Predetor on Blu ray for 45 dollars total for both movies. Thats essentially 22.50 for each movie. You gotta be a smart shopper. Amazon also currently has a buy 2 blu ray's get one FREE deal.

No I totally understand that mentality. But at the same note, if someone spend however many thousands on an HDTV, why would you wanna watch the same SD movies you could have enjoyed at the same resolution on your old TV. I just shop around and I can get them cheap but on the same note, I am a HUGE movie fan and collector so I probably dont represent the majority.

It isn't a ripoff. It's almost always cheaper to buy a boxed set of something than to pay for individual episodes. There is nothing new about this. It's a common practice.

Why does everything have to be considered a ripoff in here? You have people that can afford 1080p TV's and then will turn around and gripe about paying for something that costs a few bucks. Strange.

It is a rip-off. But I think it's not just XBL Marketplace, there are probably other places too where it's overpriced.

Well I think it just depends. I mean I bought The V miniseries and it was cheaper than the boxset and I know I wouldn't find it in stores because it's an old series plus I don't really shop online. Also there are some UFC fights that aren't on DVD yet. So paying a measly $2 bucks for these unforgettable fights is well worth it.

Everyone should do what they like, I can understand theres movie fanatics that really dont mind paying 10 more for that quality, but at the same time I know most people (casuals) rather wait till the blu-ray has more buyers and sellers in order for prices to drop.

Well my cable service offers the same for $1 per movie and it's not even on HD, I also get the same 24 hours from the cable company to watch the movie, so it's not a rip off.

look into buying start trek box sets. and tell me its a rip off off agains. last time i checked seasons of star trek were almost 100 dollars and cheapest being 80. i am talkinga bout voyager and deepspace nine and such. there are some seires where it might be cheaper to buy them through market place or you just want to buy some episodes you missed out on. like when i got into supernatural i bought the first season, when the second was on tv. after watching it i downloaded the 2nd season on the market place.

Actually you are using only example if you use a show like NCIS you do get a pretty comparable rate for all episodes. At least for me. Having bought both a full season from XBLM and a box set it does come out pretty even. Since 160points=$2 for a episodes I spent around $48 for a full season of 24 episodes of NCIS. Now for a box set depending on where you get it from for this show lands around $45 before you add tax(7% for where I live) so that lands me just over $48 for me. So really for me it really doesn't matter wether I get all of them from XBLM or a box set the price stays just about the same.

Plus is the season even over with? The writers strike has played havok with all the shows seasons. Season 2 had 19 episodes and season 1 had 23 so at the very least there are 7 more season 3 shows yet to air.

Also Itunes pricing is just about the same as XBLM and Amazon Unbox.

That is why DD does not work in its curent state. I'm been saying it for ages, MS is lying! DD may become a viable format, but not for long time! And then there are a tonne of lemms who keep shouting back "No! DD is ready now!"

gah!

It is a Rip-off!!!!

Why? Cause I thought Digital distribution was suppose to make things cheaper for the consumer.... So how come the Disc Version gets more for the same about of money?

I would always rather buy and own a hardcopy of a movie or game. For one, what happens to the your movie collection when the next Xbox comes out? Will they allow you to move your movies from the old system to the new one or will you have to keep the old one too. Or what happens if (I know unlikly) MS doesnt make another system and you Xbox 360 dies. How will you get your movies back and where can you watch them. Do you have to pray your 360 last forever?

I buy DVds and Blu rays because I like the ability to play my movies on any player I chose and not be locked to one system. Not to mention that I can always sell them or trade them in for something different when I get sick of them.

steam on usb hdd solves all those problems, works just like a disk, plug in and play on any computer

It may be cheaper (or around the same price) to buy a full season on DVD, but what if you don't really want the whole season just afew episodes from that Season? It would be better to download those episodes off of the Markerplace.

We don't get that in AUS but i think it's there to offer a different and convenient way to view tv shows and shouldn't be labbeled a rip off.

tv series on blu ray? lol who needs em they could easily run em in 720p and put an entire series on 1-2 discs instead they run it on the ever useless 1080p and such and still have to put it on like 6+ discs.

I get all most all my dvds Brand new days after release for 10-15 bux.

Physical will always > digital on the account of you owning a physical copy. You're not bound by stupid DRM and you feel like you actually own something. Something you can bring over, transfer and watch wherever you like, and sell. Plus like you've discovered, it can be cheaper. The only real plus with digital is that it's more convenient.

For the record I imported the physical version of GT5P for the equivalent of $25, compared to the $40 you'd pay over PSN. Inconvenience > convenience.

[QUOTE="TMontana1004"]But buying a Blu-Ray for 30+ bucks isn't?Javy03

What DVDs are you buying? I get new flicks for like 5-10$.

Of course, there is Circumstances where I dont have a Problem doing it. IF theres a TV series on their that I know I wont eb able to get any where else (or it would be very hard to find it) I would have no problem downloading it off Marketplace. Example: If they Had the kim Possible Series On there I would defintely get it because I know they dont have DVDs out right now. Of course I tunes has tehm also, but thats on a Much Smaller screen. (BTW: Shut up if your snikering! The show is actually quit Funny and has some very good Writing behind it. John Dimaggio is the best in that series.)

steam owns physical any day. no cd keys to deal with no cracked disks, no disk read errors, no waste space that cd cases are using, no having to go to the shop on release day and hope they have the game.

Steam owns, bound by user account not hardware, has no drm, auto updates, preload the game and start playing the moment its released, keeps all your games orginised in one simple list. put your steam folder on external hdd and take to friend and works just like a dvd. consoles have a lot of catchup to do
