Yes, GTA and GT made the Ps2 where it is today, and I never denied it. But you cant say that MGS 2 wasnt a system seller, it still sold 7 million units. And is in the top 10 best selling games on the PS2. The difference here is that Halo, GTA, GT,Mario are HUGE system sellers But games like, Super Smas Bros, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, even if they dont achieve 10 million unit sold mark, are still system sellers, its not every game that manages to sell over 3 million units, and there are even less that manage to sell over 5 million units.

MGS 2 sold well of course, which was mostly due to the increasing fanbase of the PS2, which was a result of GTA 3 and GT3 (they both released before MGS 2). But the fact that the sequel was only a shadow of its predecessor in terms of sales, despite a fanbase that was SIGNIFICANTLY larger at that time, shows that the game is a niche game with fanbase that is all but loyal.

MGS 2 was simply released at the perfect time; it barely had any competition (due to it releasing late in the year and GTA 3 as well as GT3 releasing far earlier the same year); not to mention the hype the game had. What else were PS2 owners suppose to buy?

The Metal Gear Solid franchise is not a system seller.

Now despite the 360's early lead it hasn't really sold to many more people than original Xbox owners and hasn't really taked much of a lead with the Wii catching up fast in America and already caught up in the rest of the world. The PS3 on the other hand is still lagging behind but still closing the gap, specially everywhere but America the PS3 is selling strong. Though if Sony keeps their exclusives for 2008 and the major big titles do well and wern't let downs like the so called big titles for 2007 then i reckon by 2009 the PS3 will be selling like hotcakes and taken over the 360. With things like Home coming aswel and brining achievements i think that will satisfy the people who bought a 360 for that... however obviously the fanbois will still not buy one no matter what.

The thing is most people still havn't bought a new system yet and sitting on the fence until the big games come out. What really suprises me is how everyone i know owns a Wii and says how great it is but yet they only have the one game it came with. So even though the Wii is selling like mad i really don't think the sales figures in terms of games will look anywhere near as good as what the 360 and PS3 willl have in 2008.

The problem witht he 360 is they have a great start but failed to keep it up and losing potential exclusive titles that Bioware and others could have offered, as i doubt EA will want Bioware making exclusives for the amount they paid for them. The lineup for 2008+ is looking really poor for the 360 and Microsoft really need to work on their first party more because right now Nintendo and Sony's are looking much much stronger.

I agree, by 09' the Wii will be going on its last leg but still be in first and by 11' PS3 will be winner, PS3 already cut its production cost in half so theres more then likely gonna be a price cut THIS year, so imagine a price cut in 09' or 10' etc.

Microsoft will most likely cut the price too but by then PS3 will be the more likeable console because it'll have way more games by then, Microsoft used all its big guns already in 07', the rest of the games coming out for 360 are either cult games like Shadow of the Collosus (not to say they're not gonna be good ...but they're not system sellers) or unproven franchises like PS3 had in 07.

Microsoft is in trouble, they underestimate the rest of the world and underestimate the average gamer. They didnt spread out their big guns and within 2 months after their releases sales have stabilized and actually are beginning to decline.

Halo is kind of a fluke as far as system sellers go. The majority of 360 owners probably were xbox owners who bought it expressly because of Halo. What games other than maybe Mario 64 and Super Mario Brothers for the NES have an attach rate of over 50% of system owners? Wave Race maybe, since it was like the only other game for a while.

Just because a game "only" sells 5 million out of a potential 100 million audience doesn't mean it didn't move systems. People are waiting for MGS4, FF, and GT5 to come out before buying a PS3, thats a pretty safe assumption. Will these people buy all 3? I know I will, but they're very different games that serve different niches. People bought PS1's to play FF7. They bought PS1's for MGS. Heck, they bought dual shocks for MGS. I bought my PS2 BECAUSE of GT3. I've still got the red GT3 pack box in my room at home. To say these titles don't move systems is rediculous.

The only way the PS3 can overtake the 360 by early 2009 is if the PS3 sells 600,000 MORE consoles than the X360 and the X360 sells ZERO consoles. The consoles are selling at the same rate. The X360 is not going to stop selling, especially with a price cut on the way. Expect a very small cut in the spring and a better one in the fall.

The PS3 doesnt have a chance until mid-late 2010 IMO.

Third party devs all salivate at the notion of their title hitting this system and earning big $$$.

Add in the HD movie and TV shows and this system is going to get real popular with the general public.
