By 2009-2010 PS3 AAA Titles Will Be Too Massive For Dvd's

In an article hosted by by crave.cnet.com titled "Rockstar's mysterious PS3-exclusive game may only fit on a Blu-ray disc". An interesting quote is mentioned in the article. They are quoted saying

"Of course, if the game is as great as Rockstar says it is, we might not see it until 2009 or 2010. By then, any AAA PS3 game will be so massive in scope that it won't fit on a DVD, only a Blu-ray disc."

There is no official word confirming this. However it has been mentioned time and time again that future games will be massive. Could this be Sony's PS3+Blu-Ray combo showing face?

They can't use ANY HD disks. Blu-ray is owned by Sony and HD-DVD is a as good as dead in the next couple years. I say by 2009 M$ will have a new console, without any HD media format. M$ will not stand a chance if they can't get a HD media format for their next console..if they ever have a next console.

Sony OWNS Blu-ray. They Manufactured it and sold it to a number of companies. M$ has no chance in the future if they don't use an HD format. Looks like fanboys are deaf as well as blind. :|

M$ CANNOT put Blu-ray into any console they make. They would have to buy the rights from Sony as they OWN and MANUFACTURE a large portion of Blu-ray disks and players. Sony created Blu-ray and you will never see it in any of M$ future consoles.

They can't use ANY HD disks. Blu-ray is owned by Sony and HD-DVD is a as good as dead in the next couple years. I say by 2009 M$ will have a new console, without any HD media format. Blu-Ray isn't owned by Sony. it's owned by the Blu-ray Disc Association, of which Sony is a member.

That would cost M$ an astronomical amount of money. They wouldn't do that (especially not for just one console). They could do it for computers, but Blu-ray is already making it's way into PCs. M$ will have to find another way.

we dont need bluray, the bluray has done anything for sony yet and the cell proccesor hasnt done anything. Gears of war come out on a dvd and it was amazing especially the graphics we didnt need that bluray, or cell.

No they can't. No matter how many times I explain to you that Sony OWNS Blu-ray, and M$ would have to shell out a massive amount of money for the rights to the Blu-ray players (not to mention the Xbox is the direct competition of the Playstation), Sony would never allow that to happen. Looks like a lot of fanboys are getting nervous at this point. The full weight of how important Blu-ray is to gaming is finally coming down on them like a ton of bricks.

by that time, I would rather be playing or preparing for a next gen system that would includ a HD hard drive an vastly superior graphics then what PS3 is capable....that would have been 5 years on the market for xbox 360. Im hoping the next gen console is somewhere around 2010-2011

Until Sony actually shows something that is absolutely impossible to do a DVD, M4 is perfectly correct in saying that.

And if worse comes to worse, ill have to change the disk in my 360 once every 10 hours, beats paying extra money for a format i dont want.

I agree Blu-ray is not necessary at the moment, but in a year or 2, it will be. My point is M$ will have to change to a HD format to keep up (and to keep from using multiple DVD9's in the future). Some people will be ok with changing DVD9's (obviously they never owned a Playstation 1 so it's a new thing to them :) ) The time for using larger capacity disks is becoming more apparent as the gaming industry grows as the data needed to make games is getting larger.

My thoughts exactly. Until the PS3 produces a title that is absolutely extrodinary and destroys the best the 360 has to offer all talk of Blu-Ray being needed is mute. Mass Effect is gignatic and so was Oblivion. They all fit, however hard the developers had to work, on a DVD9 disk. The PS3 can't keep talking about Blu-Ray being needed. A single game has to step up to the play and show it clearly that Blu-Ray will enhance gaming experiences in ways no other format has before. Until then Cows talk of blu-ray might as well be "Moo moo moo." It holds no weight.

Show a game that Blu-Ray makes better. Just one. I'm waiting...

I'm assuming you're talking about Betamax, and no, that was the generation before DVD.

Sony doesnt own Blu ray, they just developed it, its owned by these guys.

So there, if MS wanted blu ray in 3-4 years, they could just buy the rights and Sony would pretty much have to agree, considering they are just 1 company on a board of 10 different companies.And if the majority of the board agrees to licence Blu rays to MS, then there would be nothing Sony could do to stop it.
