Call of Duty has never been about single player.
Unlike Heavenly Sword, that is ALL about single player.

No, the original Call of Duty had an amazing and lengthy single player, and I think most people will tell you that the original CoD blows the others away for single player. The only difference is that online multiplayer games has made FPS's that were originally all single player based or had offline multiplayer, now have become crap because developers spend more time making a game have online play instead of creating a good single player campaign that is more then 10 hours long. At least Retro Studios can do it though, as we have seen with the Metroid Prime series.
you fail to realize that CoD4 has a phenominal multiplayer aspect as well. HS didn't offer even the slightest touch of MP....HS scored higher then it should've IMHO...CoD4 will score the same as Halo3 and HL2: Orange Box.http://n4g.com/News-76513.aspx
In Neogaf, the latest OXM details are in aswell as scores but the most controversial highlight of the news is that the highly anticipated Call of Duty 4 will have a campaign mode of only "5-6 hours" long.
If this is true, it should get a rating of an 8 just like heavenly sword(since that was the only complaint by GS about the game). Interesting...

COD:4 has a Multiplayer thats very very well executed (beta tester) and will almost give 20hours more gameplay for the average user... thats even if that 6bour claim is true; which I highly doubt.
Im unsure if you people even know why COD is what it is today!... COD 1 SP was great but its Multiplayer gave it that superb layer of gold on the game.
It was only untill COD united offensive where people actualy prefered the SP over the MP of the game.

Sorry guys speaking for the majority :(...but the added vehicles and bigger maps where great, but I preffered the smaller maps with high and range variety.

I guess that puts to rest GOTY talk.
What? Call of Duty is ALL about the single player. That's why the series got so popular.purplemidgets
Indeed. Single player is the only reason that I love COD. COD2's campaign was fairly lengthy, as any true war game should be in my mind. I play games for the single player, as the single player campaign is in essence the heart and soul of a game.
So, if this is indeed true, then I am going to do the rental thing on this one. A shame too, because I was extremely amped for this game more so than for any other shooter that is releasing this year. I have enough shooters to play anyway with The Orange Box, Halo 3, Jericho tomorrow, and Blacksite Area-51 on November 5.
I am tired of devs making games that are supposed to be filled with next gen greatness, only to gimp out on the single player experience in favor of making multiplayer frag fests. What ever happened to making the main focus of a game what the actual game itself is about....the story and single player experience?
Multiplayer should be an added bonus to playing the story of the game, not the main focal point in my opinion. Unless they want to just make a multiplayer game only, like Warhawk, which is fine. But if devs are going to make a game with a story, plot, ect, then that should be the meat of your 60.00 purchase. Not a slapped together 5-6 hour campaign that comes as a bonus to a game that amounts to nothing more than a multiplayer frag fest.
Should that turn out to be true, I will be glad to carefully avoid buying this game and rent it instead, hoping many will follow my example.
Actually, this new trend of games that can be completed in a weekend (this was being talked about last gen by some M$ big guys, and now it is before everybody's eyes) sure has its advantages, after all...

United Offensive is my fav. MP game of all time as well.
To bad console gamers have never gotten a good MP CoD, and really even a single player CoD that was even close to as good as the first one.
I still need to finish getting my new PC all put together so I will try CoD 4 on the 360, but I doubt I will find it very good as far as the MP goes.
Its a pain to find decent games on XBL becouse there are so many noobs and I played the CoD 4 beta witch was only 12 people. If the retail release is only 12 players I will just wait until my PC is ready. CoD should be a 32 player + game 16 is the absolute min. number of players it should have.
The original CoD and its expansion on the PC are awsome. CoD 2 was just never as good especially the MP and CoD 3 really doesnt deserve to be part of the series.
On top of all that the 360 will offer half the MP goodness the PC verions will. And thats before the mod community gets going. Once they do I will have my PC by then and wont need to worry about the half assed XBL multi player.
heh i remember GS trying to get me to reserve cod4 when i reserved halo3
i told them i wanted a singleplayer deep enough for co op
i really shouldve mentioned though that i simply dont have xbox live
which is why i feel cheated out of most 360 games i buy
but with live... i'd just feel cheated out of money period
lose lose situation
(anyways, if they were SMART they wouldve pushed Orange Box instead of COD4 since atleast thats another SCI FI fps... but again the lack of live means i'm gonna have to rent it)
when i go to buy zack and wiki i guarentee they push it again
meanwhile id be buying an original ip, and theyre trying to push a sequel to a war FPS which i already have like 3 of on the 360
heh some GS ass was trying to make me put 5$ on zack and wiki today just so its "5$ cheaper tomorrow" ... yeah good logic there moron
im so happy i walked out in the middle of him speaking
i understand you get hours by your reserves.. but dont try and push some sort of backwards logic on me
ohwell, they also cheated some kid infront of me out of his 20% trade in value because of how damaged his discs were ... like i've never gotten scratched discs from gamestop before, they said they had to send them in to be repaired heh

man live aint that expensive + the cost of live automatically increases the life of ur standard game to unlimited hours 8)

i didnt say its too expensive
i said i feel cheated out of money
considering i play my psp, wii, ds, pc for free online.. i cant justify 50$ a year for a system that isnt even going towards dedicated servers ... besides once i get a ps3 id prolly wanna cancel it anyways
personally i prefer splitscreen with friends
anyways i have such a backcatalog of games i need to play... the last thing i wanna do is get stuck on just 1 game for multi... im kindve done with those days when i used to only play hl mods and pc games
the way i see it
i can play tfc2 online forever which is basically a polished off tfc that i played for 5 yrs already or... i can play an original single player game with a storyline like psychonauts
