Considering you can get a Wii or 360 with a greater game library for $100-$50 cheaper. Price is probably the biggest thing hurting the 3DS, since you can get a DSi with a far better library for $100 cheaper. Sony on the other hand has confirmed they'll be losing money on the PSVita for the first three years, this can only mean greater price on software and/or greater price on proprietary memory. Just seems like a lost cause in the smartphone/tablet boom for a handheld to cost that much.

So your speculation that the Vita will have a greater proprietary memory price due to its lower entry cost is a negative you use to justify choosing a 360 instead? Win!

The PSP was very successful (in Japan) with that price, and of course that is a fraction of what an iPad costs. Still too expensive for me though. :p

I think the great DS and DSi library works for the 3DS as well, because buying a 3DS gives you the DS and DSi library, as well as future 3DS games, for only $100 more than the DSi.

I suspect the Vita will do well. It seems like they are positioning it to compete with the iPad, and they have successfully undercut Apple's pricing scheme by several hundred dollars.

Didn't the PSP launch at the price? And has sold about 65 million? If you don't think that is successful then just stop kidding yourself.

Haha yeh, once I heard the price I was pretty pumped. I was expecting over 300$ for it. that pic is pretty perfect for the situation.

Ill admit once i heard 250$ I forgot about any games that were gonna come out for it. Now that the shock has tapered off, Im really hoping for a strong launch line up. If theres just 2-3 solid games I want, and 5 games coming within the next 3 months then thats probably all it will take for me to justify purchasing a PS VITA.

It's mostly for cosmopolitan urban populations in their 20's and 30's. Moms and 2 year old kids don't even know how to use touch screens let alone a computer.

$250 is too high for a handhile IMO. I'll wait, the DS slim is still fine... I'm looking at YOU, Mario Kart DS!

I want the 3DS and Vita but buying either any time soon doesn't seem very bright. I have the money but it'd be better spent elsewhere until both systems have a fat library and at least one price drop...

I think the 3ds is overpriced at $250 and should be $200. The vita is priced okay but, anything over $250 for a dedicated gaming handheld is a rip.

Ok so the DS officially ahas better library, but isn't the 3DS fully backwards compatible with DS games? Correct me if I'm wrong. As someone who never bought a DS, this makes the 3DS rather appealing.

excatly how is vita price a steal? yes it has nice features. touch screen at the back, analog sticks and nice to look at. but vita will fail in the gaming department. 3ds specs are not as high as vita but 3ds is going to have the better library. honestly i think both of them should $200 max and nothing more.

Why would it fail in the gaming department? It has Sony backing it, and the make the best games found on closed systems. Nintendo has lost their edge.

Of course I cannot see into the future. But I think sony will seriously fail in the handheld gaming department like they did with psp. ps vita will be a portable ps3. sony keeps on focusing of features while neglecting games. people laughed at the DS phat when it was first released. People were so sure psp was going to crush DS and look at what happened. too even take it back further when sega released game gear everyone thought it was going to crush gameboy and game gear winded up being murdered. Nintendo always delivers when it comes to their handheld gaming. I would like to think Sony learned from their mistakes with the psp but I don't see a change in sony. The good library of games is what makes the 3ds worth it. Plus are you forgetting about the 3D? Don't get me wrong I think nintendo makes a lot of mistakes. But nintendo always made excellent handheld games.

There's one thing none of you can be certain of: the games. AKA one of the reasons the DS dominated the PSP. Sure they showed some cool titles but then again so did the 3DS when it was unveiled.

The reasons why PSP failed in the west wasnt games it was due to the high price ($100 more expensive than DS) nad high piracy rates with both of them at the the same price range now things will be totally different.

I believe the iPad is worth it, especially the 3G model. Internet just about anywhere then. Also, 3DS has been successful so far, even if sales aren't what they hoped for, it's certainly no Virtual Boy or anything. PSP was successful (65 million or so sold). That's hardly a failure. Even if the Vita's stronger, you still get exclusive titles on the 3DS (their own first party games at least), and possibly other third party titles. At least there's Nintendo's own games. It's powerful enough anyway. No sense nitpicking it.

Yes. With a great line up like that on 3DS yes

Also, the iTouch and PSP did pretty well at that price (roughly well)

Vita has hit the sweet spot i've always wanted, so yes as far as im concerned it's already successful and with Sony supporting it heavily i think its a very safe platform to invest in.

um i hope you know 3ds is already succesful if it wasnt dont you think it be pulled by now , it wouldnt have sold 4 million the first month , it wouldnt have sold in japan which it is ,not midlife ds like but still , its selling making profit and games are coming for it ,

its a success whether or not vita out sells it its still gonna be a success because profit is number 1 for success if all you do is sell more handhelds and still no profit then your busisness is still at risk

Pfft, yeah. Because there is Mario, Zelda and other major names that will keep the nintendo to keep selling handhelds. Sony on the other hand will have plenty quality exclusives.

Edit: Oh yeah, it is better to play handhelds than phones as a mobile device. So, itstill convincesignificant amount of peopleto buy handhelds. At least there's still plenty enough sales for both comapnies to make a profit.
