Can any Upcoming console games look better than Star Citizen/Squadron 42?

I'm optimistic about Upcoming games on PS 4 Neo. Horizon Zero Dawn (Complete) for example.Guerilla games utilises every power of playstation to give us a graphically stunning game.

Given the source platform and its capabilities (PC), no.

Certainly, by the time Star Citizen finally is "complete" there is already new more cutting edge tech available for new games

Considering CryEngine is still on top and it's version scalable and all new tech added can be adopted, I don't think so.

Not on PS4 and Xbox One IMO. May be on Scorpio. Squadron 42 will get 2 sequels and Star Citizen will get constant updates including graphics improvements post launch.

Star Citizen is running on an outdated CryEngine, by the time it releases it'll be even more outdated. If it weren't for the massive scale, the games graphics just another shiny CryEngine game

It's been in development for at least 5 years and they've released basically nothing so you do the math.

The singler player campagin SQ42 is scheduled to be released this year they will reveal more on citizen con 2016. The MMO online will be release afterwards. And SC hasn't been in full development five years ago, they didn't even have a studio at that time and less than 20 people. 2013 was when they officially had a studio with people working on the game and would continue to add more and more people to the production. I like how guys completely ignore they had to establish studios with people to work on the game.

We have reached a point now where game graphics on all systems are using the same rendering techniques and the graphics from game to game arent that different even across systems. The only real defining arguments for graphics now are resolution and what frame rate the games can run -two things the PC excels at. The same two things consolites would scoff at a gen ago and what is now the main argument going on between fanboys of different platforms.

I'll be laughing and you will still be watching trailers and coming up new excuses for your precious vaporware exclusive as it becomes a bigger joke with each passing month.

"Outdated CryEngine". Did you proof read that? Do you understand what you were typing? If you licensed CE 3 years ago, you always have access to the latest versions including CE 5 to which the version # is typically not even mentioned anymore. So developers are free to have their game use any new features they want. SC uses a heavily customized version of CE called Star engine which means they still have access to the latest CE 5.1.1 if they wanted to obviously but also means they would have to test/debug depending on how it effects their custom code work which likely means rewriting some stuff. Ethan Carter for example moved from UE3 to UE4 very late in development if not after release if that helps you understand better. Robinson: The Journey started off with CE3 as well and has updated to CE 5 but it won't release for quite some time.

You also can't really say it's outdated because CE 5 was only announced in March and any games that start from scratch using that version specifically won't release for a couple years at least but certainly any developer could just update their current game at any time but again, SC is in a different league now with their own custom code which uses 64bit positioning and localized physics grids to which CryEngine doesn't even have. CE is also royalty free now and you don't have to be tied to distribution platform or middleware service.

Actually it uses heavily modified Cry Engine, internally known as Star Engine. Basic Cry Engine can't do what Star Citizen/Squadron 42 is doing with its modified engine. Not to mention, I don't understand these statements where people claim that the game visuals will become outdated when it's out.

That's not how stuff works. Compare latest build to initial build from 2013 and you'll see the difference is like night and day. Things will improve as game reaches its final stages of development. A lot of stuff is placeholder. Do you really think that games with closed development always looked as good as they do during release? Do you really think they looked amazing since the very first day?

Consoles are synonymous with sacrifices, PC's are not.

@dynamitecop: No it's just the truth. The new consoles if the specs are true would have to make no sacrifices at 1080p. So the sacrifices would come down to nothing more then IQ(lower then 4K) and framerates.

SC will also be limited in visual quality due to its scale.

Vaporware , Eve online is the definitive space sandbox game . It's 13 years old and still better than star citizen

Even just looking at the pc gaming show, those titles looked not even PS3 gen; then we look at Sony - with mind blowing presentations that look Pixar level.

These people buying £2000 pc's are like a middle age man trying to relive his youth fruitlessly, the days of Crysis are long gone.

Considering the Neo will be weaker than a 480 due to lower clock and less TFLOPS and possibly a CPU that creates bottleneck, I wouldn't be too sure about that. It's looking to be on par with a 380X which definitely cannot max out everything at 1080p.

Depends on what PC games you're talking about. If we're talking about indies with relatively low budget then yes fair enough many PS4 titles will look better since there are a plethora of indies on PC. I wouldn't say most though as PS4 also has its fair share of JRPGs and small indie games. They make up a big chunk of the PS4's entire library.

Like I said, completely illogical considering the fact that most games on PS4 are also on PC, and look better on PC. PC overall has the most number of best looking games.

Nothing can beat the crispiness and fluidity of a well built high-end gaming PC. Consoles will always be low-mid tier for commercial reasons.

Pc games will always look better. The question is:

Will Star citizen be the best looking pc game? It'll be up there but I don't think it wipl be king of graphics. I hope its fun like Wing Commander was. If they achieve this then I could care less if the graphics are not Uncharted 4 level.

Many people particularly consolites dont realise that what makes PC gamers go gaga with Star Citizen, other than its already impressive gfx, is the scope(and the details that comes with it) which is far more advanced and bigger than any game in history, in fact beyond any announced future titles.
