With all multiplayer modes and improvements and hype halo reach can easily be most played game on Xbox Live. But do you think that reach can dethrone the call of duty series and become the most played and popular again?

it's too early to tell, really. It depends on the quality of Black Ops, since that's basically Reach's only competent competition this holiday season and into 2011.
given the beta response though, Reach is going to be a hit regardless.
Activisions "$15 a month to play Call of Duty" alone will dethrone them without the help of any big name multiplayer games.
It is not going to outsell Modern warfare 2. I will bet on that.Considering Halo 3 was the the most played xbox live game, the year COD4 game out and the year after.....i think its safe to say Reach will easily have more players then MW2. Just on the 360 obviously.
Fizzman
you mean on Xbox 360 only?
Halo 3 was the most played Xbox 360 game of 2009. over COD4.
I'd expect the same scenario with Halo Reach, this game even gets an extra year after a Modern Warfare title.
2007- COD4/H3
2009-MW2
2010-Reach/Black Ops.
you should get what I'm saying.
On XBL only? Sure, why not. Overall? No, not even close. With all multiplayer modes and improvements and hype halo reach can easily be most played game on Xbox Live. But do you think that reach can dethrone the call of duty series and become the most played and popular again?

It can outsell it on the 360, but not both ps3 and 360. I wasnt referring to sales though, since its not like every MW2 who bought the game still plays it.
i think halo is better but itll nvr be bigger or more known because not everybody can play halo but anybody can play COD halo 3 sold 10 million copies in 3 years thats alot but COD has sold more then that in less then a year even mario outsold it . Thats probably why bungie went multiplat so they could be even more populatr and everybody can play there gamecoltgames
Halo 3 came out in 06 with what 20 million consoles sold and MW2 came out with nearly 40 million sold. The numbers game isnt really comparable. Reach will be the true test to see how the Halo brand holds up against the COD brand in terms of sales.
I don't remember Halo ever leaving the throne..... Bungie takes serious time to develop and balance their games to make sure they last many years and don't get stale. The series doesn't over expose itself like COD, who releases a game every year like it's madden. Why don't they just start adding the year after COD? Like COD '11 should be the name for Black Ops.

You can't directly compare them. Halo is only on 360, whereas Cod is a muliplat game. So obviously Cod is going to sell more and sell quicker. But for halo bieng only on one platform, it's sales are pretty impressive, and Reachwill no doubt be #1 on xbox live when it's released.

70 Million? I think you forgot to include PC gamers.Halo doesn't need to dethrone naything.
The Halo series is big enough in its own right.
Halo and CoD have swapped leading games online on the Xbox from time to time when ever new iterations of the game is newer.

Halo Reach will be lucky to dethrone halo3.

Black Ops is also coming to the Wii:P
pile on the numbers.
I'm going to say until November... then it's black ops, MW2, or Reach. I really don't feel like reach is going to have the standing power that MW2 has w/ it's high level of mp unlocks for customization, perks, classes, and prestige.
If Black Ops is really really good, than it'll take over MW2 fanbase, and surpass reach. Even if it's mediocre it's going to pull a lot of gamers away from MW2 which might give Reach the edge as far as numbers go.
If it were Modern Warfare 3 then I'd understand. Modern warfare games tend to do better than games set in the past in this series so far.
It might outdo it on the Xbox 360, but that is about it.millerlight89
you make it sound like it's a small acomplishment.
if KZ3 outdoes CoD on the PS3 it would be considered a miracle.

Halo 3 has been going strong now for 3 years and has been getting lots of support from Bungie and the community long after it's release.
Why can't it be the same for Halo Reach?

Basically because reach is not being released in the same MP environment as Halo 3 was. Yes Halo 3 is one of the top played games on XBL, but it's not THE top played game on XBL any more. Multiplayer numbers tend to roam, and Halo 3's run was pretty impressive, but I don't think Reach will have that same success in today's multiplayer environment. Modern warfare's level system has given players a reason to play more just like Halo 2 did w/ XBL. Reach doesn't really seem to offer much that's ground breaking in terms of keeping players active. It has a level system, but from what I understand it's completely cosmetic, and that won't be enough to encourage people to play more.
I still think Reach is going to be the top played game on XBL for a good run, but it really depends on how good Black ops is, and even then it's not likely to have much lasting power Halo 3 did.

Halo 3 was released when CoD4 came out so what are you talking about ? and Halo 3 is STILL the top played 360 game :? Reach is going to continue that trend of being a stong MP game with long legs Unlike CoD[QUOTE="AdmiralBison"]

I don't get you there.
Of course Halo 3 isn't the top player anymore considering the popularity of MW2 and that it's a newer game, but Halo 3 is still definately up there in terms of numbers and has remained very consistantly high even in the space of other FPS, TPS games that have come out later.
Latest Live activity from Major Nelson
It shouldn't be to difficult for current Halo 3 users to migrate to Halo Reach- given the familiarity and all, and with the significant Beta attendance- so you already have there a substantial number of users ready to play Halo Reach.
What about extra maps support for Halo Reach? It is possible for Bungie to keep supporting it like they do Halo 3 to give it legs.
It seems Halo doesn't need that much of an improvement over Halo 3 to get bigger numbers! You already have great existing playmechanics that are very popular- it is quite obvious at this point I think.
The level of anticipation for Halo Rach is still higher then Black Ops on the Xbox360if we are going to pitt these game against each other
