Can someone explain to me why the PS VITA is doing so bad?

I really want a Vita, I'm sold on the system it'self but right now it only has a couple of games that interest me. Give it some time and I'll get one down the road. Oh and those memory cards are a HUGE rip off, but whatever once the system get's some really good games it will make up for that.

I'm sure it's the games. There's barely anything.. kinda sad, really. I haven't been interested in titles other than Dynasty Warriors and Unit 13.

I have played about an hour of Unit 13. It is pretty good. I have also played Rayman Origins, SF X Tekken and Uncharted. Funny enough Uncharted was the one I liked the least.

I don't buy everything Sony releases and I don't blindly worship or follow them. They just appeal to my taste as a gamer a lot more than the other two.,a nd I grew up with the Playstation brand so I'm comfortable with it, I like it and I know what I'm getting.

Portable market oversaturation imo. It's hello tablet/phone gaming and good bye traditional handheld gaming.

Also, it needs a price drop and some "killer-apps" (Monster Hunter, Gran Turismo, GTA) ASAP.

Well, I think the price is too high, but Sony would probably drop that or at least package at least a 16GB memory card with it since they're asking at least $250. Another reason would be the games since the only game I want for it is Uncharted. Uncharted is the only reason why I got a PS3 in the first place, but I think that it'll need more than Uncharted to satify me (and no, Resistance won't help). I'll wait for a price drop or more games, but until then, I'll enjoy Uncharted on consoles.

And if there is time to play games you might as well just get a console.

Yeah, or a handheld. Depends on your preferance.

I wasn't being defensive, I'm just not going to drop down $300 for one Uncharted game. I'll get it when Vita get's more games (or lower memory card prices).

The sony playstation brandname not nearly as strong as when the psp was released and $250 is to high in today consumer market for a device who's main selling point is being a dedicated handheld gaming even nintendo couldn't do it and had to heavily slash the price after 4 months. The lack of advertising for the system doesn't help either.

Anyone over 24 has no time to play a handheld if they have a career, girlfrind, and child.

WarTornRuston

I agree with two thirds of that but a child at 24? lol, fail.

What is wrong with having a kid when you are 23 or 24 years old? When you are married or engaged it is perfectly OK to have kids and screw on the kitchen table if you so desire. That was one of the dumbest comments I have ever read on here. Keep in mind ispeakfact and loosing ends live on this board.

What's also dumb is the 24 year old has time for consoles but not handhelds :o Maybe it's opposite day.

Yep. I can. I went into Gamestop and bought a PS3 for almost half the price. Anyone over 24 has no time to play a handheld if they have a career, girlfrind, and child. And if there is time to play games you might as well just get a console.

And parents are not gonna throw their money on a $300 handheld if they have already bought a PSP or 3DS.

Sony should port the Vita games to the PS3 (They were probably going to anyways) and can the Vita. The technology is cool but with phones and Tablets, gaming devices seem to be a black hole unless you are Nintendo.

DeadMan1290

Not everyone has kids at the age of 24. I don't think they should can the Vita because adults or parents won't buy them. There's people like me who work and can save the money to buy a Vita.

The only thing I'd like is a price drop.

Yea man not all gamers are virgins like yourself ;)

Sony is failing in the handheld department because they can't seem to get it through their head that the handheld demographic is DIFFERENT from the console demographic is DIFFERENT from the PC demographic.

You can't just sell the same game in each market and expect the same sales everywhere.

Right now Sony is trying their hardest to convince the handheld demographic to buy console games, and this is why they are failing miserably.

I don't mind the $250 price point. However $100 for a 32 gig memory card is just downright unacceptable. The lack of good software doesn't help it either. It's mainly just ports or watered down spin offs of PS3 games. I loved the PSP for titles like Crisis Core and Peace Walker.

If people want to play Uncharted they will play Uncharted on their PS3. If they want to play Call of Duty they ill play it on their flat screen. If they want to play Resistance they will play it on the couch in front of their home cinema set up. You get the idea. Nobody wants to pay hundreds of dollars for a handheld and then $too much per game just to play the same games they already own on a smaller screen. The only thing that a handheld offers is portability, of which the Vita has little because, much like the PSP, it's a super-luxury device that you couldn't ever really play on the subway or take traveling because it's way too delicate. They didn't learn a damned thing from the PSP, basically.

1.price 2.games 3. lack of umd drive If the vita came with a umd drive, i probably would've bought one. the thing about a 3ds, is I also would be able to have the regular ds library to add to it.

It's main competition has been out for almost a year before it launched, costs $100 less, and has already had a bunch of big titles released for it so far. The vita needs some big system sellers and soon. A price drop would help it sell a lot as well. It also hasn't been supported very well by Sony on the PSN side of things either imo. but whattayagonnado?

PS Vita has no good games? Only on System Wars do you get such a dumbass response. Anyway on topic. The PS Vita has cheaper competition unlike the 3DS when it was flopping. It has no killer ap for Japan and Sony has overpriced memory cards. Outside of those things the PS Vita is a solid system and is doing the same as any other system that has only been around less then 6 months. People are being unrealistic if they expect a nearly 6 month old system to have killer aps coming out left and right. Development hasn't fully kicked off yet. 3DS is a prime example only getting great games almost a year after launch.

Is it because the games are too expensive? Lack of quality games? Lackluster apps?

I just dont get it! Isn't this the type of handheld people have always wanted? 2 analog sticks, large vibrant screen, console like graphics, and touch screen functionality. Is there just no pleasing people? What does SONY have to do to save it?

Second_Hokage

Price for me. I can't see myself paying over $200 for a handheld no matter the quality. Even Apple acknowledges that. It's 8gb iPod touch is $199. Nintendo's 3DS has been sub-$200 for a while now.

Herp Derp no auidence grabbing games ? Sony fudged up by not having hardcore games that appeal to the Japanese market. tried to release more western games yet offered nothing *amazing* that would get everyones attention to buy. If they made a Call Of Duty Game and some more JRPGs then I can see it selling.

Most people just don't want to play console games on a handheld. The "family" market is cornered by Nintendo, and the "commuter" market is cornered by smartphones and their bite sized and bite priced games. There simply isn't enough of a market for a "hardcore" device with $40-$50 games, and I don't know why Sony didn't learn this lesson with the PSP.

The entire market is different now. When the PSP came out it was a monster, and there was nothing similiar on the market. It was a unique device. These days thats just not the case. Hardware wise its just a powerful mobile phone. Top end Phones will be more powerful than it by next year. Yes, absolutely, they arent the same devices at all, the Vita has a gaming focus, but its still nothing unique. Sony literally just took off the shelf components and made a system. Theres nothing to it at all.

Still a stupid comment by you. Of course you would probably never have to worry about having kids, kind of have to get some tail first. People often hate what they can't get. You highlight phones, money, and save money. OK............WarTornRuston

A) this doesn't even make sense, B) you can't even quote properly and C) the best bit from the "ladies man" of system wars...you use the word "tail" when referring to p*ssy. This makes you a full hybrid consisting of absolute lameness AND absolute dumbness.

Now do the internet (and women across the world) a favour and shut the hell up.

Probably because it's too expensive, the games suck, sony screwed people over with the overpriced memory cards, no one has heard of it except hardcore gamers and taco bell enthusiasts, etc...Not to be harsh but in my opinion the Vita really sucks a big one.

its because its called vita

I do believe this has a part to play in the poor sales, its a cr@p name, one that has no brand recognition. They might as well had called it the Venus, Vita is just as damaging.
