Can someone provide me with a comparison of the ups and downs of PSN and Live.

The $50/yr service is supposed to be superior.

Also, I find it hilarious that cow are more than willing to spend $600 on a console, but not $50/yr for the best online service.

Care to explain why it is the best in comparison to PSN. Does it have the stuff to beat HOME when that is announced? :? Just curious.

at the moment live has a large library of arcade games (including worms, yay), 360 games generally have great online support, or at least decent - whereas the PS3 games can be somewhat hit and miss (R:FOM is great though imo).  So yeah, live is better at the moment imo

I'm only addressing the major points, not a full comprehensive report.

LIVE
pros
  • Proven formula, MS has proved dedicated to LIVE
  • Can play games, etc., while downloading items
  • very intuitive format, easy to use
  • everyone has a headset
cons
  • $50 a year if that bothers you

PSN
pros
  • Absolutely free
  • can use a credit card to make purchases
  • fully functional web browser
cons
  • Software companies must provide their own servers, some may choose not to(see TH Project 8)
  • may features not available, like background downloading, but Ihear patches are coming if you are patient

They both have there advantages, but overall Live gets the nod for it's more refined experiences and overall better features. Not to say PSN hasn't gained ground, it's def. shaping up nicely. As far as multimedia stuff goes, ps3 has 360 outta the box. However, hook the 360 to the PC through Media center, and it becomes a WHOLE notherbeast...you could basically turn it into a full fledged HTPC/Music Center with gaming ability.

you know you coould easily just go to the Official sites .. and read the information there ...   then i would recommend you to spend some time at your friends house with XBox Live and another with PSN ... make your own decision ......

The only main factor with all this ...  it appears most xbox games come with online capabilities .... and most PS3 games just don't offer online.

If you want the best experience, GET Live. PSN really sucks right now and home doesn't really add any useful features to it.

they both play games online. Live is more of a community experiance than the PSN. i would happily pay 50 for the experiences Ive had on live. Live is great matchmaking. Live is great downloads. PSN is not bad by all means but it is lacking content and features when compared to Live. Im not really sold on PSN Home yet. (kinda seems like a money pit to me) all in all Live>>PSN even if Live only had half the features it has now.

In my opinion, I would probably say that Live is better at the moment.  Home could prove successful in the future, but it does not offer as much at the moment.  It is a simple matter of getting what you pay for right now.

Xbox Live:
Excellent support, any game that  has online potential has online capabilities.

Years of what could be considered practiced and true reliability, a system that has been in place for many years even prior to Xbox 360.

PS3:
No real games out yet to comment on the PS Network support quite yet, but as some have already mentioned, developers are expected to pay to host their own networks on top of the fees to develop the game.  Expect lots of randomized downtime and possibly lack of support all together.

PSN is in Beta right now.

On the note of money.  You get what you pay for.

I forgot to mention, all monoply or corruption related details aside. M$ is pushing their "Games for Windows" campaign with Vista, sometime in the very near future, all games that are playable online via PC and Xbox 360 will coexist. Halo 2 is my first known example of this, you will be able to play against someone on an Xbox 360 while on your PC or vice versa. This will eventually mean that the online community base for Xbox 360 will grow tremendously, as it will consist of PC gamers as well, which is a very large market of all Fanbois.

XBL owns PSN for everything. Only thing PSN has on XBL is its free. I would rather have the much better service for $1 a week.

Xbox Live: +Tons of great features, worth every penny. - $50 a year PSN: + Free - Standard online platform, lacking a lot of the depth of Xbox Live. Basically, if hate fees, PSN is better. If you want quality, Xbox Live is better. It's that simple.

Can't you do all of these things with the free silver account? The $50.00 a year is for online multiplayer. There are so many things that makes PSN inferior but here is one of the major problems. PSN is not integrated in the games so basically all the games have a different friend list and some don't have any. In motorstorm you cannot play against friends because there is no friend list so you will always play with random people.

With Xbox Live there is one friend list and it's really easy to play against them. You can see what games they are playing and you can send and receive messages from your PC or Xbox 360. All games have voice support unlike PS3 games and it's just a much better experience. The dash is integrated into games so you play custom tracks plus you can stream music, video and pics from your PC. You should google if you want more facts.
