Can we at least agree Nintendo is always the most interesting or exciting manufacturer?

Yeah, I suppose they are in some sense, though they didn't have much in the way of competition. Both Sony and Microsoft generally played it pretty safe this gen.

Of course interesting is not synonymous with good. While the Wii had a few genuinely fantastic games (seriously, SMG2 is GOAT tier) under its belt, it was pretty underwhelming. The WiiU on the other hand sucked ass plain and simple.

I think they take chances but always **** up the hardware because they're cheap. So while the Wii and Wii u and 3ds were interesting concepts they were incredibly poorly executed

While the Switch is new and daring in its own way, I also feel it's necessary and safe in others. The one device allows them the benefit of not splitting first party development between two devices, allowing for potentially greater output. And the handheld nature means it'll still draw third party support from Japanese devs, whereas western AAA would probably not matter regardless of system design. But yes, exciting.

@Juub1990: Of course they are. The front page of IGN was plastered with a announcement about an announcement regarding the NX's real name etc. This never happens with PC, which claims that it is the superior platform. In reality, there's never anything to say about PC, and PlayStations are mere iterations of the console before them.

srsly IGN and you think mass hype is a way to say which platform is superior ? don't forget Nintendo Switch is powered by Tegra X1 , a processor made by Nvidia which is one of many computer hardware manufacturers out there

I don't claim consoles are superior, the OP and I claim that they're always more interesting. Or, if you can provide us an example of where a PC component held the headlines for a significant time, we might be able to concede something.

so the headlines again , well PC is always on headlines , now you tell me what console manufactures did in the past 10 years that improved gaming experience or made it more interesting ? was it E-Sports ? is it VR gaming ? 4K gaming ? did they improve Digital Sales ? free services ? next-generation GPU\CPU architectures ? ....

All i look for are powerful enough platforms that allow me to play the latest games with a good old controller in my hands. Not different ways to play.

I wish Nintendo went back to Nes, Snes and Gamecube days (powerful consoles with both, amazing Nintendo exclusives and full third party support).

No they wouldn't. Not when the people who jumped ship from Nintendo found their replacements very quickly and view Nintendo's games as an inferior product even then. And, to repeat (don't care how idiotic or crazy I get called, not like I think aliens have polluted our minds): game like Breath of the Wild (or any Zelda game) would be bashed compared to whatever Bethesda (Elder Scrolls, Fallout circa 3) threw out. Smash, which is already a highly despised series in the fighting game community, would be slammed next to the traditional fighters. Same deal with Pokemon. And Mario would be thrown under a bus more so than CoD.

If they felt that desperate, they so would change art style/gameplay.

Why do you think Nintendo fans would lose interest in Nintendo games if they went third party?

I'm pretty sure most hardcore Nintendo fans also own another console or PC, so its not like Nintendo would lose their current fan base if they stopped making hardware. You really think Nintendo fans give a shit what platform they play Mario on? No, they just care if its a good game.
