Why are people always refering to brandnames as groups of people, without actually saying that they are talking about the people behind the company?

Example: "Sony are doing good."

"Nintendo are so stupid and kiddy."

"Microsoft make bad consoles."

Why do people just assume that people know that they mean:

"The people at Sony are doing good." or "Sony is doing good."

"The ideas of Nintendo are so stupid and kiddy." or "Nintendo is so stupid and kiddy."

"The manufacturers at Microsoft make bad consoles." or "Microsoft makes bad consoles."

Does what I'm typing make sense? Because it really pisses me off when I see people type like my first examples. So I just hope we can all stop doing that, for the sake of correctness and not making ourselves look like uneducated retards.

It's just easier to blame the whole company at once. Why pick on one little guy when you can demean a whole company.

No, it is by no means shorter to say. The word "is" is shorter than what people are saying.

So because something annoys you, we all have to change? Sorry. If I make a mistake, I don't even care to fix it.

Depends on how the the verbs are used. For example... "The crowd was content," is correct. So is, "The crowd are arguing." The first one represents the group as having a whole idea. The second represents the group as individuals differing in an idea. It's a thin line. Most people simply follow the consensus that when a noun is largely considered singular, just give it the singular verb. It's complicated, and many forms of grammar have adapted over the years. Really, I doesn't bother me much how people post on an internet forum as far as grammar goes. If it did, I'd be one grumpy Gus most of the time.
