[QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]Anyone remember when every PS3 game was going to run in 1080p at 120fps? :PCyanX73

I remember a time when you could buy a console without needing a 3 year warranty.

I love how i made a slight joke about the PS3 and you automatically assume i'm a 360 fanboy. :| Calm down; i'm not offending your honour here, am i?

[QUOTE="br0kenrabbit"] Untrue. The mouse input is directly related to your frames-per-second (thanx, Windows). Not only is 30FPS more difficult to aim in FPS games due to the mouse being less sensitive, but players and animations get all herky-jerky as well. I wouldn't play an FPS at 30FPS. I get mad when they drop below 60FPS. Anything over 100FPS I don't complain about.Teufelhuhn

Mouse input isn't tied to your FPS in Windows. At a low level its sampled by the OS at a rate completely independent of any game thats running, and most games will use buffered input or multihtreaded sampling.

I feel an incredible difference in my mouse between 60hz and 100hz. I was pretty sure Windows changed it's sampling poll based on refresh rate.

Negative. Metroid Prime = 60 FPS, and Halo 2 = 30. I see no difference.Michael85
What kind of TV are you running them on? Regardless, maybe you're lucky and your eyes aren't very sensitive to that sort of thing. Some people honestly can't hear the difference between a $300 surround sound setup and a $3000 one.. though their ears are 'worse,' they're lucky in that they can go ahead and cheap out with an equal experience. :) There's this cute little program that's fun to play with. It displays a simple moving 3D image, and you can manually set the FPS it runs at. It's pretty easy to see 30 vs 60 or even 45 v 60.

The naked eye's threshold is 21fps, after 21 fps, your eyes sees things smoothly and not in a "slideshow" mode. It sees it as a smooth video. So it doesn't really matter. For me, as long as it doesn't drop below 25 fps, I don't give a damn. It would appear slower, but not much difference.

On Linux, Need for Speed: Underground 2 on Cedega clocked a constant 20fps and I had very little problems with that.

Yes you can tell........PROOF :

This is what 30 FPS looks like in a racing game (Nascar 2008) : http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/driving/nascar08/media.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;videos

This is what 60 FPS looks like in a racing game (Forza 2 ) : http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/driving/forzamotorsport2/media.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;videos

Some people may look at these two and not see a difference in how much smoother Forza is than Nascar. As an avid gamer the difference to me is substantial enoughto wish that EA had spent more time tweaking NASCAR to run at 60 FPS.

By the way I can look at Frame Rate locked game and tell you if its over or under 60 FPS. I cant tell the diff between 60 and 120. but the diff between 30 and 60 is very noticeable to me.

I am sorry but that is a half truth. I won't get into the technicality's of it but you are quoting an often misquoted thing. The Game experience as it is perceived even benefits from 120 FPS. No games run at a set rate. Even games that are "locked" at 30 FPS are actually "capped" at 30. Get into a real bad accident in a race game capped at 60 and the accident looks better than one in a 30 FPS capped title. You just have to experiment. I gave an example in my otherpost between 60FPS and 30FPS titles.

It depends on the game. In a 2D fighting game for example. You might not notice.Forza_2

You can't be serious?

Then you sir might have some issues with visual recognition. Playing Halo after Metroid Prime is like walking in mud. 60FPS compared to 30FPS is easily noticable like night and day. Well at least in my case.

I have to agree. 30 FPS and 60 FPS is a big difference in animation smoothness.

What gives me doubts is people who claim to be able to tell differences between really high framerates. I think if you were to really put people to the test on that you'd find thatthey couldn't reliably discern the difference. Human cognition has its limits, and despite claims to the contrary, no one is a walking fraps machine.

Wrong. Suppose to be 1080p DUAL 120fps. Yes, the hype/lies were enormous.

It's youtube through. Can't really see the difference. (beside the 15FPS). On computers screens, it would have been easily noticeable.

Some people can tell the difference. Some can't. My brother records shows on BeyondTV sometimes. Occassionally the framerate will get really choppy from my viewpoint. My mom notices nothing at all. It is all perception. Stealth fighters can see many more FPS than the average human. They are trained heavily. The answer to the topic is yes and no. Yes, some people notice a difference between 30 fps and 60 fps. No, some people don't notice a difference.

Sort of.

Although at times I do like a locked 30fps. It gives a more surreal look like film.

My HDTV adds more FPS to anything, including Xbox and DVDs. It's crystal clear, but some people may not like the loss of dream-like quality.
