It depends on your definition of succeeding. For some weird reason, the Sheep here believe sales is a success. It is my opinion htat the better games a system has, the better the console. So without online support, the Wii will always be last because nothing can give a game replayability and value like online multiplayer.

..But cooking mama sold well, so it was success i guess.

At this point, Nintendo could take a big, steamy sh**, add motion controls, and it would still sell.

So far the wii has sold a bunch and without online games, only japan has pokemon. I want online but the friend codes suck but what can you do? just to suck it up and deal with it. It's a pain but hey it's free.

I would love to have some strong online support for my Wii. But my DS only has weak online support and I still love it to death, so yeah, I think it can succeed. It will only succeed even more if it gets some great online support.

That may be true but here in the US, arcades are a dying breed. Online is needed soon. Verry soon.

I wasn't talking about the arcades I was talking about at your home, one on one with a friend should be what games focus on. It doesn't matter though, IMHO this whole EVERYTHING needs online thing is just a fad. Just like the "co-op" in the early 90's and the split screen in the late 90's and early 00's.

See, that's the thing though... Not everyone's friends are going to be into fighting games, or shooters, or sports games, etc. So let's just use fighting games as an example now. If your friends aren't really into fighting games, then what? Arcades really aren't a viable option anymore, at least not in the U.S., so that leaves you with playing nothing but the CPU all day, and that gets old. Actually being able to face off against other human competitors is what can be an option to bring you back constantly. Not everyone has the opportunity to play a certain genre with friends, so online is an important element to them.

That being said, like someone else pointed out, there's a reason why fighters such as VF or Tekken haven't gone online yet, and that's the frames, latency, etc. And until a solution is found, those fighters are gonna stay offline. Even with no online play, they're still great fighters, but again, not everyone has some type of following or number of friends who will play a certain genre that they enjoy, and they'd like to have that opportunity to have online accessibility so that they can play with other people from around the country or even around the world.

^^^I do agree about fighters not going online because of connection issues and cheating. But I didn't hear anyone complaining about having no friends to play back in the day. People seem to not care that Wii Sports is offline. I mean if you would rather play someone online then a CPU go right ahead, but a main point of playing a fighting game or something similar is to be there with a friend, so online will eventually get tedious to some.

Again I'm not saying that online isn't important, it just won't be as big as it is now *that EVERY game is online* in a couple of years.

If Nintendo could survive with no 3rd party support on the GC, they can survive with no/little online support.

Such a pity that so few people actually play or care about online multiplayer. I think the fraction is now up to, what, 15% of all gamers play online? Or is it still hovering around 10%?

I'm curious to what Wii owners think of this. Do you care for online gaming with the Wii? 360's experience for online is super. And PS3's online is still in baby stages, but in progress to be better (Home in particular. At least Sony is thinking of creating their online experience rather than just sitting back). Thoughts?hotdaisy18

Dissapoitned? yes.  Will the Wii succeed without online? yes

Im probably going to sell my Wii, 360 has a better experience for online and better games. What can save Wii is take out those codes and at LEAST have an online service of PS3's....

Uhmmm....the Wii is already succeeding.  It is not only outselling the competition but making huge profits.  If customer support, sales and profits are not considered succeeding then clearly the majority of casuals and fanboys trying to pose as gamers have lost their collective minds.

It will because the Wii is bought by mostly casuals, they aren't really into online gaming.

Nintendo will have online support. It won't be Live for sure, but they will have a halfway decent online service. The DS  has some pretty good online. The downside is the friendcodes, but you don't have to have friend codes to play the game online. Most if not all of their game are playable without friend codes. All the friend codes do is help you play your friend directly instead of hoping to run into them online, similar to gamertags. You can still look up your stats on the Wifi Website. Its really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. If the Wii improves upon the DS online, they will have a pretty decent service. Not as good as Xbox live, but still good enough to play all the games online and have fun. Nintendo can survive without online. It has some really awesome games that they make ontop of the 3rd party support they are starting to recieve.
