Can Xbone compete with PS4 as a gaming console only?

Can the PS4 compete with the Xbox One as a gaming console? Is the real question.

Xbox has, a fighter, a shooter, a racing game, a platformer, an action adventure game.

All the PS4 has resolution.

So another question is. Can the Xbox One compete as a resolution machine.

it's not intended to compete with the PS4 as a "console" only. If it was it would be stronger and wouldn't have all the extras.

@2mrw: This has to be the Joke Thread of the Day. lol!! The XB1 will compete until the end of the generation. M$ has already added additional 1st party studios and is being supported by 3rd party companies 100%. Eventually it will come down to the games and whoever can create some innovative content on the system that will appeal to casual consumers as well as hardcore.

Pulling Kinect out of the equation is contrary to the whole concept of not only X1, but Xbox as a whole. Kinect bolstered the latter half the 360's lifespan and have no doubt MS would not decouple from that gravy train.

A kinect-less Xbox has no relevance in the eyes of MS, and in the long run that may prove true.

1. That's because it was rushed to launch way before ANY software was ready. Realistically, if MS and Sony weren't having a pissing contest, there is no reason they couldn't have waited until this year to release the console. The X1s own software was completely bare bones until updates a few weeks ago. Forget Kinect software, both consoles are struggling with normal games, in that there aren't any.

2. Not really, lol at the speed PCs are progressing now, consoles are dropping down the scale faster than ever. The PS4 will be entry level within a year or two.

Topics like this make the OP's look foolish. Of course the X1 can compete as a games console only. Both of these consoles are going to have amazing games exclusives or otherwise. The Sony fanboys want everyone to believe that by 2016 we wont have a X360 Vs. PS3 compettiton but rather a X360 VS. Wii competition between the X1 and PS4 and they are simply dead wrong!! The X1 will be just fine as a gaming console!!

As far as power is concerned, people are quick to forget that the PS2 was considerably weaker than the Xbox, yet still wiped the floor with it in terms of sales and software.

People are also quick to forget the torrid couple of years the PS3 had when it first released. Higher price point, more difficult to develop for, worse multiplats etc.

I understand why cows will continue to make and populate these threads; as a certain level of payback against the initial PS3 backlash.

Unfortunately, due to the new rules, these threads will be copy pasted ad nauseum with the same people coming in and circle jerking one another. At least when the PS3 was getting slammed, System Wars rules meant that trolls had to be creative instead of dully repetitive.

But you forget that this time it is not the same thing... the PS3 at least was better in some areas of it's hardware and was at least designed to not have as many failures. It could also play Bluray media which I think was a selling point.

The PS2 came out before the Xbox and had more support so it's not surprising really.

This time you can say Xbox One is in a weaker position in every way possible, weaker hardware weaker price point, weaker sales, weaker development studios, weaker operating system (more unfinished), weaker console design (more bulky, non replaceable HDD, external PSU, controller batteries). It really does not look that great in the long term unless they can pull out some killer games, but it would have to be something really special.

"Special" is subjective. Does your gamerscore and achievements carry over from the 360? If so, I can see less informed, MP gamers who play COD and BF a lot just switching over to the One, since now the prices between them are not as significant.

compete yes, but winning is a longshot unless they do something about their first party studios. i dont think another gen of halo/gears/forza/fable is going to work. they need something else

Completely agree with this, there are only gamers in my view, basic logic, anyone who plays games is gmer, end of, doesn't matter what you play or how you play it.

I have been gaming for 28 years and it's sad to see gamers segregated into different categorys, especially when people start looking down on people that play certain games.

i have hardly played on my 360 lately, been playing games on my nexus, having fun, what gamings all about.

As of right now, Xbone has more exclusive than Playstation 4. The question is; when will Playstation 4 gets own exclusive to be on par with Xbone as a game console?

lol no. when sony starts pumping out the GOTY exclusives microsoft will be left in the dust with their kinect.

The PS4 might be technically stronger on paper, but what it all boils down to is the games. The Sony fanboys always want to point out the exclusives that Sony consoles have relied on in past generations. The problem is that true exclusives are getting fewer and fewer. We are in the age of the multiplat and it is going to continue. The only way either console would ever have an advantage over the other is if they were to land exclusivity on a big time, mass appeal game like CoD or Madden. Imagine if MS were to buy the CoD publishing rights from Activision! Or imagine if EA came out and said that Madden is now an exclusive property of Sony! Other than something of that proportion, both of these consoles will sell well and the sales numbers will be neck and neck!!
