It's everywhere. Everyone seems to think GTAIV was a disappointment, or just crap. My only gripe is that it becomes stale after the story is done, but during the story it's really immersive. It's very easy to forget your playing a video game and be Niko Bellic in a recreated version of NYC. There's a lot of freedom while keeping it's dignity as a realistic mobster game.

I think what a lot of people need to do is suspend their disbelief and stop looking at everything with a critical eye. Dont analyze everything you see or experience from the perspective of a gamer looking to get his money's worth, just listen to the story and play the game and you'll always find some good to take away from it. That way, you wont have to run to system wars and tell everyone how horrible you thought a game was.

I think Assassin's Creed suffered from the same thing. Everyone looked at it as repetitive, and eventually that's all you could think of while playing it. Look at it as Altair hunting down his 9 targets and slowly learning the truth of what was happening around him, paralleled with the events surrounding Desmond and the animus.

AC and GTAIV were great games, and as a game collector and gamer, I'm really glad to have them.

GTA4 killed my cat, dog, mom, dad, sister, house, and, worst of all, GTA4 killed Ash, ala Mewtwo's Psyburn attack used in Pokemon The Movie.

well..I dont hate it I actually really like that game (i'm like 40% into the story mode) ..though I dont think it deserved a 10..I'd give it an 8.5..this is why:

1) the missions are all the same..it's allways: "hey cousin...go kill this guy...he's escaping in a car.."

2) the online was boring

3) low frame rate hurts my eyes and take time getting used to

4) it's really cool when people on the streets walk arround with umbrellas..the problem is that when niko pushes them and they drop the umbrellas they dont even bother picking them up...they just walk away...seriusly thats retarded.

5) not that many costumization options..much less then in san andreas

6) sixaxis bike controlles are terrible

though I still think it's a great game..and I dont hate it..just think it's overrated

Are you that blind? Ill admit, the first 5 hours or so were a blast. There are probably only about 1-2 hours of unique missions. After you complete Three Leaf Clover, its the same repetitive missions until you get to the end. They took so much stuff out from San Andreas just to make it a bit realistic (not talking about the driving).

I don't think it's as bad as it used to be, I just expected to much from it, I do dislike the fact that it took out so many things that made San Andreas fun though.

Its fantastic, great SP and excellent MP, but the missions arent that great and the characters just arent as good as SA. I would give it 9.5

SA i would give 10, no MP or not

I don't hate it, but this was the most disappointed I've been in a GTA game, and any game for that matter for a long time.

It had a great city, lots of detail, blah, blah, blah. That's a great and all, but without the gameplay to back it up it is nothing. And the gameplay is what really hurts it IMO. It does have some good missions, and for a while I didn't mind it. But after 3 islands of basically the sam mission over and over again, with only a few unique missions, and only one that was truly as fun as many of the missions from the past GTA games, I just felt absolutely disappointed in the game.

Sometimes I do hate Rockstar for some of the really bad decisions that they made in the game. They focused way too much on the city being "ZOMG T3h realiztic!" and not nearly enough time to think of fun ways to make the missions more interesting. I didn't mind it being "too realistic" for the story and everything. But when that cuts into the actual gameplay, making it not so fun to actually play the missions, and not so fun to go on rampages or anything, and this being the first time I actually felt like it was a chore trying to get back into it and finish the game (which I still haven't done, although I am very close, I'm pretty sure I'm on the last mission).

There were so many things I could rant about. I easily prefered both Vice City and San Andreas over this one. GTA3 was great too, and was more fun, despite not having as many features as VC or SA. It had some actual variety, and didn't feel like as much of a chore as 4. And hell, while it wasn't as good of an overall game as 4 was, I even enjoyed the PS2 port of LCS more than the majority of the missions in GTA4.

Where is the great variety of missions? Where is the replay value (or even value enough to finish it the first time through without forcing yourself to)? Where is the fun?

Despite that rant, which doesn't even begin to cover all the things I was disappointed in, I don't hate the game. I'd probably giving it an 8.0. It was such an overrated game, and I, along with most people here, were expecting so much more while getting so much less...

Its not hate, its the reality after the hype that its just an upgraded GTA game, being dubbed the best game of our time, and being reviewed as PRIME in a franchise which can easily be better so the word "PRIME" is redundant.

Personally it didn't do enough to keep my attention after the first few hours.. The missions became a chore and I've yet to finish it(Maybe never will). I enjoyed SR a lot more simply because you could create your character from scratch, and gameplay was more cartoon-like than realistic. It was simply more fun... Come this winter I'm thinking of selling GTAVI for SR2.. (Personal preference incase fanboys want to chime in with their opinion.. )
