I stopped watching cartoons around 19 years old, just lost interest, maybe they became too kiddish for me, I can't really tell. well I do watch The Simpsons or Family Guy from time to time, but I'd not define them as classic cartoons, as they cater to a more adult audience.

Well of course I also used to play and love those Nintendo franchises as Super Mario, Kirby, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong and I still love them, just my excitements stops as long as I'm playing one of these games. I think that Super Mario Galaxy looks fantastic, yet I feel like forcing myself to play it, same for Zelda and dunno about Metroid Other M as I've not played it. I look at the upcoming Wii titles - especially Kirby's Epic Yarn - and I'm like woah I gotta put my hands on those games, but I'm afraid that it's just nostalgia and I need to move on with more "mature" games?

I'm 27 years old, btw, just curious if any of you guys've experienced or is experiencing the same thing as I do, or something similar

Some people get over things. You've obviously moved onto new types of genres. I still love my Nintendo games, and I can't really stand the feel of PS360 games. But that's why it's each to their own.

So to answer your question: I personally haven't felt that with Nintendo games, but I've seen many people do what you have done.

Not really. I moved towards more mature gaming like flight sims a long time ago. But, I still indulge in some Nintendo games for the Wii plus its Virtual Console. There's fun to be had on both platforms. Heck. I'm in my 40's now. But, every gaming PC I bought since the mid 80's have had a corresponding Nintendo console with it dating back to the original NES.

I feel the opposite, in ways. I went through the phase of thinking games like Splinter Cell and Halo were the mature games during the xbox/cube/ps2 era, but in the last few years as i've gotten back into games--I've had it completely wrong. The mature games are those that are timeless. Ones with ingenious level design or play mechanics. Super Mario World is more mature than any game on the current generation of consoles. Tetris is mature. First Person Shooters are NOT mature AT ALL. They can be, in the likes of realteamwork--mic communication going on online, or the OLDER multitasking Rainbow Six games for PC, but generally speaking fps genre is one of the most immature areas of gaming at the moment.

I'm the oppesite. I've grown out of senseless violence in games and this theory that violence equals mature content which many peoples suffer with. Though its great occasionally to play ultra violent games like Gears, Mad World, Resident Evil but i'd rather play something which is challenging my brain rather than my trigger finger. Metroid offers a challenge, Zelda offers a challenge more so than the 3 games which i mentioned previously. Also you havent outgrown watching Simpsons which is a family Cartoon which means directed towards everyone so its kinda makes your whole thread invalid as just like the simpsons, Nintendo are aimed towards a family.

Just because they can be played by kids doesn't mean it's only for kids. Nintendo and Pixar are testament of this. I have not experienced your problem yet. Animation is not inherently for kids, that's a very wrong stereotype. If you only watch The Simpsons or Family Guy, you are missing out on a lot.

A grown up game is a type of game that would probably only appeal to those of mature gamers. For example, a kid would not find much fun in a game of Civilization, but as an adult, you will be able to understand what is going on and the historical themes that power the gameplay and events. A kid will love Halo.

Being a high quality game or a timeless classic doesn't give tha game a Mature status. Mature games are the ones that have content that probably isn't suitable for younger audiences, hence the Mature rating. Being mature means you're secure enough to know that you enjoy a game regardless of what other people think and freely play that game.

If a game is fun then I'll enjoy playing it. That's the only rule I go by when deciding to play a game. Besides, most kiddie games are may more mature than M-rated games.

I'm 34. I have a job. I have a degree. I'm engaged to be married. I don't need to play "mature" games to feel mature. I play games to have fun and relax. Nintendo are excellent at making games that are fun, so I tend to buy and play Nintendo games.I think you will find a lot of people in their 20 and 30s play Nintendo games.

I feel exactly the same way. I basically had to force myself to play SMG2 and ended up selling it without getting very far.

I also attempted a SMB3/World session a few days ago which lasted a total of 15 minutes.

It's the same with Kirby. People seem to think it's going to change the world but I think it looks kinda simple and boring despite the inspired gfx.

I am anticipating the next Zelda however.

No every time I go near a Nintendo product I am immediately repulsed, and only when I think manly gamer thoughts like hiding behind walls shooting, and chainsawing things do I come to my senses. If it weren't for 'mature' games I would be beside myself.

You are confusing the TC query, with the rating system. The rating system does not equate whether or not a game is mature--it is only a societal view on what should be deemed suitable for people of various ages.

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 libraries are full with games that try real hard to be mature. Which is not much better.
Nowadays when I pick up a sword, I don't just pick up a sword Prince of Persia styIe. (Pose + screen flashes + heroic jingle all within one or two seconds.)
No I first get a 30 second cut-scene with my shiny character making some bad one-liner picking up the sword and then the camera twirls around making me sea-sick with magic swirls crapping all over the place before I'm in control again.

yes but i do not see a point. little big planet outdid mario and did it badly. shadow complex out metroid metroid and did it so bad that other M looks even worse since i played it. mario kart is kiling itself, mario galaxy is great but i prefer ratchet and clank. most nintendo games like pikmin and wario (and even kirby epic yarn) would probably be DLC on the hi-def systems.

i guess my answer is i could play them but there are better nintendo games made by other developers. smash brothers is really the only thing nintendo has that other systems dont anymore. even the PS move is what the wii should of been.

Agreed with both. I really can't stand the number of kids in MW2, so I'm considering quitting that game for the time being.

I´ll never understand how can you "grown up" or "move on" Nintendo games, it's one of the most silly things i ever heard here in SW, they are games, i don't see why Halo or GOW are more "Mature", i get that your tastes are changing, but it has nothing to do with the franchises since most Nintendo games can be enjoyed for every gamer regardless their age.

I'm in my 30's and I watch animated movies all the time. as for games i think they are totally different. I can still play zelda (and really enjoy them)but i'm not into platformers much. at least no "hard" ones because i don't like repeating levels. I've no time for that. Epic Yarn looks amazing and i will get my hands on it. I'll enjoy playing it while my daughter watches.

Well kids these days just want to grow up fast, though they have no idea that a childhood is a one time thing only.. sad really.

I'm 32, married, and i would give anything to be 15 again. With no worries in life. :(

 you can't be serious

oh yes sir i am dead serious. playing new mario wii was like taking a step backwards after playing little big planet. if i really wanted to play the same mario levels that i played 20 years ago i would just create it. so go ahead and laugh, i will be playing the better game.

I don't enjoy Nintendo games any more as I did when I was young. It's mostly a youth thing, but there's always people who continue to like them when they're older.

I've never been interested in 3D Mario. I have yet to enjoy one of them, including Mario 64. I had a blast with NSWBW though. I'll never, ever get sick of Zelda. Ever.

And I'm 29.

I have what would be called "discriminating tastes." I only play what I enjoy, and there are some current Nintendo offerings that I enjoy (Prime 3: Corruption and Excite Truck) and a few upcoming (Donkey Kong Country: Returns)... but overall, I don't like what Nintendo is offering on the whole. However, I should also mention, I've never been a big fan of what Microsoft or Sony offered either (i.e. Halo, Gears of War, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, etc. etc.). Most of the games I've really ever loved, have come from third-party developers (with the exception of Super Metroid and other Nintendo-made SNES greats of course).

it's normal I suppose, I don't watch cartoons either and I don't enjoy Super Mario as I did back in the days.

yep I think yours is just nostalgia, Pc gaming is generally the answer for us grown-ups

italygamer

thats possibly one of the most narrowminded things i have heard all day a platform does not justify whether one is a grown up gamer or w/e term your gonna coin.

I aint watched cartoons since i was like 13-14 cause at that time i started watchin a lot more of Kerrang since then musics been what i watch on telly,i still watch animation like Family guy and South park cause its more mature in its humour and not as juvenille to an extent but its not like cartoons to an extent.

I suppose I went through that phase of growing up. In my case, it really wasn't the type of games but rather the whole idea of gaming itself. Although I still gamed on both console and PC, I did cut down to concentrate on work and relationships.

I resumed a lot more gaming after I got married and have a more stable source of income. But, do I regard Nintendo games as kidstuff? Nope. Well, not all of them anyway. There's just a genre or two I wouldn't touch.

[QUOTE="kobraka1"]

yes but i do not see a point. little big planet outdid mario and did it badly. shadow complex out metroid metroid and did it so bad that other M looks even worse since i played it. mario kart is kiling itself, mario galaxy is great but i prefer ratchet and clank. most nintendo games like pikmin and wario (and even kirby epic yarn) would probably be DLC on the hi-def systems.

i guess my answer is i could play them but there are better nintendo games made by other developers. smash brothers is really the only thing nintendo has that other systems dont anymore. even the PS move is what the wii should of been.

Wii4Fun

SMG1 & 2 is awesome, little big planet is also an awesome game, but it did not OUTDO mario. No developer makes Nintendo-like games that are better. If they did there would be no real reason to own a Wii would there?...Although I gotta say Kirby's epic yarn isn't really appealing to me, Nintendo still makes awesome games with awesome gameplay.
