I can, when ever I look at a game which is muddy and greyish, I can immediately tell that it is a UE3 game.
And when ever I look at a game with smooth and clean textures, I know it is a Source game.

Yep, anything that's brown is definitely an Unreal Engine 3 game.
While anything that looks clean is definitely a Source game.
Mirror's edge IS an unreal engine game. you fail badly
While anything that looks clean is definitely a Source game.deadesa
That's the joke.
Zeno Clash is a Source game and Mirror's Edge is an Unreal Engine 3 game.
I know Mirrors Edge and Mass Effect is using UE3, but MOST of the UE3 based game ismuddy andgreyish.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a pretty clean looking UE game :)Juggernaut140Ya and its also pretty ugly as well so I would have never guessed.

It is a sad ability, but i can tell only by playing the game.
Different engines have different "feels"
but i can't tell from stills.

You're telling me when you picked up Mirrors edge UE3 screamed in your head? If no one told you would you still know?
Actualy.
I would have suspected it after the slapped on PhysX
And i know it sure as hell was not Frostbite.
Yeah, I can tell if its UE3 or Source. Although I was surprised when Mirror's Edge was using UE3, didn't look like it

I would guess you are referring to a Deferred lighting engine.
Sony really backs this tech.
iggyb387
Is that what makes Uncharted, and Gears for that matter, look somewhat "waxy"?
No. That would be the art style.
I don't think Gears used Deferred lighting.
Here is a list of games that use Deferred lighting.
Havok Engine FTW.evilross
Havok is not a game engine, its a physics engine. A huge number of games and game engines use Havok physics, ranging from Source Engine and Unreal Engine 2, and games such as Diablo II to Half-Life II to Demon's Souls.
i dont know i just like that logo on the game boxesYour Unreal Engine 3 thing is stupid if I showed you Undertow or The Last Remnant you would never have known. But everybody knows the source engine.
But its funny to see all these people posting about engines and thinking they actually know something. 99% who think you know what engine are all are morons. Like that guy who was talking about how the unreal engine 3 always puts an unrealistic shine on everything. What people don't realize is that engines and graphics are not the same thing.
