[QUOTE="mmogoon"]Everyone knew this already.deadmeat59

Exactly. Anyone who owns a HDTV can see the 15-pin d-sub input (monitor in) on their HDTV. Well, most HDTVs.

Here's the problem, hermits. Most homes don't have their computer in the main TV room. Most have one HDTV and one main computer. But most don't have that computer just sitting next to their couch or TV. Its in an office.

So while PC gaming on your main TV is great for dorms or small apartments, not so feasible in a normal home.

i have an hdtv and i dont have any pc inputs. i have hdmi and componet

dvi-hdmi cable.

[QUOTE="JLF1"]So why are hermits using HDTVs to add to the cost of consoles?Meu2k7

We dont? its a devil advocate trick applied to consolites that include monitors/KB/Mouse/Speakers/OS in PC price argeuments.

But hermits always laugh at how crappy 720p and 1080p is. Now its optimal. Make up your mind guys. And whats with all these PC threads. Ever since that article came out with the guy bragging about GLOBAL pc gaming being less than half the size of US (one country) console gaming, hermits have been on a rampage to make up for it.Senor_Kami

What? nobody says 720p or 1080p is "crap" ... hell my monitor only goes up to 1050P .... though ALL my games run at it unlike consoles... which alot of bigger games now are becoming 600P.....

Boasting technology they couldnt live up to.

Who cares about exact 1080p.I have a samsung 22" LCD and i just absolutely LOVE it and dont need some massive screen.

It just depends on how far away from the TV you're sitting. Just think of it like going to the movies, taking into account the obvious different proportions. If you sit in the front row in a theater, you'll have a difficult time seeing the entire screen, to say the least. But if you're sitting somewhere near the mid-to-back, you can see the whole screen without much trouble.

Is it true that most PC gamers wear glasses because they sit so close to the screen most of the time and have back problems because they mostly sit on uncomfortable seats or is that a myth?

I am kicking it on my 42" Westy. People used to bash Westinghouse, but the newer 1080p sets make EXCELLENT computer monitors. I have been using mine since Thanksgiving 2006 and I would never go back to anything smaller for my PC gaming. I sit about 3 1/2ft away from the screen.

ReverseCycology

A monitor or a TV won't affect your sight, so yes that's a myth.

Sitting all day long in a bad chair can lead to back problems, so get a better chair.

I personally have a small room and a bad TV, so if I had a console I'd be playing it on my PC monitor in the same chair anyway.

um....and who said the pc couldn't be hooked up to an hdtv? who?

Let alone your laptop has to be made to do this, or your desktop needs an graphics card capable of it, exactly how many pc users use this abbility? 5%?

No one has ever said this couldn't be done, so the hermits have nothing to say about it really.
P.S: hope the PC or laptop is strong enough to run true high def on that big tv, cause simply put its a very spec needed way of displaying your content, I have an laptop that barely scratches by puting 720p content on an 15inch screen.

Didn't this "myth" go away years ago? It seems like it's only brought up when someone wants to debunk it.

I am going to go create a "Smoking Safe - Myth debunked!" thread.

I was going to hook up my HDTV to my pc I tried it with my VGA lead and I could only get 1024/768 L

I think this is because of my graphic card drivers ATI Radeon X1950 pro AGP 512mb GDDR3 or because that's the native res of the TV for VGA I'm not sure.

So I was then going to try DVI - HDMI and was informed by pc world that this was a crap connection and that I was better of sticking with a VGA to pc monitor, but surly DVI - HDMI is a digital connection rather than a VGA analogue connection would be better right?

Can anyone shed any light on this topic at all please?

Depending on what refresh rate you run at, a PC monitor can most certainly affect your vision...the vast majority of them are run at high enough refresh rates so this doesn't matter anymore, but running a PC monitor at 60hz refresh rate WILL cause eyestrain and affect many peoples eyesight, it is FAR from a myth. Wrist injuries/repetitive task are fairly common among PC users...much more so than back problems.

It's not really a myth. Just ignorance. The kind of people unaware of this are the people who would have the Geek Squad set up their home theater.

It might be because your HDTV's resolution is 1024x768 and your PC is correctly identifying it as such.

Just a thought.

Now hold on--Most kids in the US (not to mention Japan and elsewhere) play videogames, and a lot of adults now do, as well. Videogames are more than mainstream enough to no longer be considered "nerdy".

You may have a point about being on System Wars, though. ;)
