30fps is a reasonable refresh rate and it has never caused me any issues when playing games like Halo 3, Far Cry 2 etc etc. However, if I play a 60fps game like COD5 and then go and play a 30fps game like Far Cry, it seems so jerky I litterally can't bring myself to play it. I have to leave the console for a few minutes, do something else, and then play. The difference between 60fps and 30fps is huge, despite what some people say.

I thought you were going to brag about Resistance 2 at first...

Anyway, I've never really compared 30 FPS games with 60 FPS so I never really notice the difference. In fact, I'm still not sure what Frames Per Second actually mean.

Now that you outline the huge difference, I think I'm going to go compare them...

Apparantly Gran Turismo 5 is going to have 240 FPS. Good luck playing any game after that game comes out (whenever it comes out)

Ever played on a 120hz enabled 1080p HDTV?

Without that to me now, mere HD is like standard def it's that much of an upgrade. 1080p 46 inch 120hz 50,000:1 contrast ratio versions of Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 put everything to shame.

I can see why PCs tout the merits of 100+ Frames per second.

Yup, lots of games dont even manage to hold constant 30, let alone 60... or 100  anyways, that's a luxury PC gamers get to experience.

30fps is perfectly playable, but it is very noticeable when you have been playing 60fps for an hour or so. the drop in framerates makes the gameplay jerky and I just cant enjoy it.. but like i said, if i don't play for 10 mins and then go back, im fine. but 60fps is lovely.

Actualy, 16 FPS is what is called Persistance of Vision in movie terms (that's the point at which your eyes will not see multiple frames but instead a moving scene). Today, 24 FPS is what DVDs and TV are displayed in, on average. Blu Ray, IMAX, and some other HD formats are displayed faster, but they must have been filmed or developed in the same FPS that they are being shown in or else it will look like it's in slow motion or being going faster than normal.

WHATS WRONG WITH GAMESPOT I CANT ******* REPLY!

THIS IS LIKE THIRD TIME im typing same message and every time i need to wait a lot for this form to load

Sry for harsh lnguage now back 2 topic

I am not being sarcastic, but if we considerate that most monitors dont go higher than 60 fps (refresh rate?) and that tv's are even lower mybe standard should be 60 fps (or even lower for tv) if im not mistaken

But 100 will be like ideal no complains xD

Out with the graphics whore, in with the framerate whore??? anyways, I agree to an extent with the TC. I actually have issues on my PC with playing too many games at varying FPS. At one time I was playing Bioshock, COD4, TF2, and BF2142 at more or less the same time, and each of them at different framerates. I wish there was a "lock game at X framerate" option, but that would be a killer on performance

it's nothing you can easily see. the difference lies in how it feels. try play COD 5 and then switch to Halo 3 and you will feel how much slower it is.

Yes, the difference is quite big, in online shooters like L4D 60fps is a must, however in slower paced games like RPGs etc. I'm not willing to give up any graphics for that since it's not so important for the gameplay.

FPS of DVDs and FPS of games are not comparable.

Real movies have real motion blur and many enhancements due to video encoding.

Moreover, you have to focus much much more in games than while watching movies.

EDIT: IIRC, cinemas show a frame twice thus it makes it 48fps.

I know what you mean. I own a 52" 120Hz LCD HDTV myself and the animations seem smoother even though the games themselves aren't running at 120fps. Weird but I'll take it!

Well, I have missed out on some great pc games, (can't name em because hermits will slap me) so it doesn't really matter if I miss out on great console games.

Honestly, I'd rather play CoH for 500 hours than play 10 console games for 50 hours each.

This is one of the big problems for consoles IMO, they don't have the power for 60fps with vsync. Even at a low resolution(720p). That's one of the reasons I won't game on consoles.

GOD I hate threads like this. THere ISNT enough difference in 30 and 60 to even care. Quit being dramaqueens for God sake!!!!. You wouldnt even know what the frame rate was if you didnt look. This is why its hard for you cool PCgamers to play consoles. You arent use to playing "dumb down" games and such. Maybe it would be best if you stayed with pc..?

A ton of PC gamers care about FPS and how high of a resolution they can run their games instead of just enjoying the gameplay. I don't consider those folks to be hardcore gamers.I own a pretty good PC and I also own a PS3/360. Not once have I played a console game that had a low enough framerate to affect gameplay. I can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps but as long as I ENJOY THE GAMEPLAY, it ends up not bothering me at all.

Yup, 30 fps is truly awful. I can play a game with 30 fps but why would I, when I could play it at 60+ fps?

Oh and people who say there isn't a noticable difference between 30 and 60 fps - quit lying to yourself. There is a HUGE difference between them and yes, it affects gameplay.

Indeed there is. I'm too used to play at 150 FPS in PC FPS games, that it's hard to go back to a console FPS.

Yup, 30 fps is truly awful. I can play a game with 30 fps but why would I, when I could play it at 60+ fps?

Oh and people who say there isn't a noticable difference between 30 and 60 fps - quit lying to yourself. There is a HUGE difference between them and yes, it affects gameplay.

stappy
Indeed there is. I'm too used to play at 150 FPS in PC FPS games, that it's hard to go back to a console FPS.

LOL good joke, PC monitors don't even refresh at 150Hz
