this is part of why killzone 2 doesn't look or play smooth - 30fps.3picuri3
Have you people lost your mind? The difference between 30fps and 60fps won't effect gameplay to that degree. Killzone 2 looks perfectly fine and it's animations are smoother than 99% of the games out there.

I notice the difference as well. After playing Call of Duty 4 and going to something like GTA IV, I can feel the difference in frame rate. It used to bother me though, but through many years of PC gaming, I've learned to live with it.

I dont really see a big difference between 30 and 60. Which ever is better is better. Of Course 60 FPS's are better but i dont notice anything.

As long as the game is better, i'm playin it

If Halo 3 can run at 30 fps and still be an ace game, then KZ2 can follow suit.

You guy's realize anything above 60 fps cannot be recognized by the human eye. 30 Fps therefore is noticeable but no once you play a game at "240 fps" you will not have a hard time going pack to 60 fps as you will not be able to tell the difference.

I didn't make that up. When i played WoW it was a well known "fact" that the whole community stated "beyond 60 fps is unrecognizeable to the human eye". I guess i should of googled before that post however. Oh and that link you posted is pretty useless and only makes a vague statement about "120 fps". Of course i had to google your link as the one you posted didn't work so maybe i got a slightly differnt link?

Ever played on a 120hz enabled 1080p HDTV?

Without that to me now, mere HD is like standard def it's that much of an upgrade. 1080p 46 inch 120hz 50,000:1 contrast ratio versions of Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 put everything to shame.

I can see why PCs tout the merits of 100+ Frames per second.

*laughs* running a 30-60 FPS game on an 120hz tv does not make it 120fps it will infact give you no real visible change to the 30-60fps source material. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6792632-1.html

It's funny that the standards have shifted so much.  30FPS is unacceptable.  60FPS is unacceptable.  I find it strange how developers and players alike will sacrifice so much fluidity for the sake of image quality.  Sure, it looks good when you are posting screenshots on these forums, but fluidity is part of immersion as well.

50,000:1 - that's dynamic contrast right? I'm just curious because that has nothing to do with the other things you mentioned, (:

Then stop console gaming :? More often than not it varies from 10-30fps. Even a game like Halo 3 and Gears could crawl into the low teens at times...

That's why I get multiplats on PC so that I can run them at 60+ frames which is quite good for the eye(lol, at least mine :P). Anyways, it's your problem not mine because I'll be playing R2 no matter what :) This kinda reminded me of GT5, when they combined 4 PS3's to run the game @ 240 frames per second. I was like: WHAT IN THE HOLY ****????

GTA 4, when I last played it, was closer to 20 FPS :P. With action going on, it'd drop into the teens.

For something fast-paced, I'll lower the graphics to try and get the framerate to the point where I can play the game properly. Lower the pace and I'll probably not care so much.

Well you wont be able to watch tv or dvds anymore then TC.

As they are less than 30 fps

carlisledavid79
I cant believe people still don't know the huge difference between movie fps and game fps. Movie fps has to do with speed, low frames is slow motion more frames is faster motion. In games more fps isn't faster, its smoother. Animation is far different than people being recorded for movies.

If you never noticed gears 2 going into the low teens and even sometime single digits its just that, you're not noticing it. Almost ANY combat situation I was seeing low 20's at best. If you've never played a pc game in 100+ frames with a framecounter like fraps running then you wont be able to tell and I guess you should be happy for that. But honestly Gears 2 has an absolutely terrible framerate.

Yup, 30 fps is truly awful. I can play a game with 30 fps but why would I, when I could play it at 60+ fps?

Oh and people who say there isn't a noticable difference between 30 and 60 fps - quit lying to yourself. There is a HUGE difference between them and yes, it affects gameplay.

munu9
Indeed there is. I'm too used to play at 150 FPS in PC FPS games, that it's hard to go back to a console FPS.

LOL good joke, PC monitors don't even refresh at 150Hz

How you know he doesn't use a CRT capable of 150hz. Anyway, even if his monitor is capped @ 60herz 150fps is still smoother than 60fps.

Have you people lost your mind? The difference between 30fps and 60fps won't effect gameplay to that degree. Killzone 2 looks perfectly fine and it's animations are smoother than 99% of the games out there.

yeah it does , if your playing a game thats really intense or fast or requires split second reactions 60 fps makes a BIG difference, thats why COD4 (and alot of other shooters) run at 60 fps on both PC and consoles, racing games like forza 2 and GT5 run at 60 fps, and action games like DMC4 and NG:S/2 have always ran at 60 fps

Again, I think you've lost your mind. The human reaction time is 2/10 of a second AT BEST for most people. During that much time, 6 frames pass. It's not like have 12 frames will improve your reaction. It would only effect your reaction if less than a frame passed by in your reaction time at 30fps and a full frame or two passed by your reaction time at 60fps

You people have no idea what you're talking about. I think you're just throwing around higher framerates and assuming they'd look better. If a monitor is capped at 60Hz, the smoothest possible framerate would be 60Hz, 30Hz being maybe 0.1% less smooth. 150Hz would actually be horrible because each time the monitor refreshing, it has to handle 2.5 frames. That's not an even division like with 60Hz or 30Hz, it can actually cause more blurred motion.

yes you can play 360 fps after playing 60fps, saying that you can't is ludicrous. Does your console acually not let you play a 30fps game after a 60fps game? I believe you said I don't want to play at 30fps after playing at 60fps. You still CAN, you just dont want too. Also, the difference really isn't that big, most 30fps games have a solid 30fps. The ones that dip under that mark are pretty bad though. 60fps imo is pretty optimal to me. I play on both though. Acually I notice the difference signficantly more on the computer than on my SDTV.

I think a solid 30fps is better than a wishy washy 60fps (even if it doesn't go below 30fps). Because 30fps divides into the 60Hz refresh of most TV's very well. Anything in between 30fps and 60fps that's not exactly 30 or 60 will look a little blurred because it doesn't divide evenly into 60Hz.
