I definitely don't agree. It took me fourteen and a half hours to beat and I'm currently on my second playthrough on Madhouse Difficulty.
I don't agree with you at all. It's not personal but the trend of being cavalier and reductive about games in an attempt to look like a know it all on the internet is beginning to sicken me the more I see it. Especially when the info is grossly misinformed and the games of high quality.
In what part was I being reductive? I've seen several people play through this thing. 7-9 hours on average to complete it and starting over offers nothing new. Even that one choice you make in the game doesn't change anything in terms of gameplay. You can't compare yourself with the general public, who don't care much for a difficulty increase and looking over every inch, in a horror game. You know the scripted scares, you know the story, you know the puzzles.
Nothing personal on my side either, but I think it's a normal conclusion to think that this game made impressive numbers cause it's such good horror, people see the quality. Normally 10 hours for 60 bucks doesn't cut it these days. Being surprised can be a positive thing.
"I'm surprised it moved that many units for a 7 hour game with no replay value"
^^That's where you were being reductive, as is the assumption that the game is composed of only jump scares when it's actually structured more like your typical pre RE4 Resident Evil game. Games where multiple playthroughs have always been the norm regardless of when and where the scares are coming from. Judging this game on a different metric is simply wrong.
Again, it took me 14 and a half hours to beat on normal (so you can add that and average it out in terms of what you've "seen") and Madhouse difficulty provides a very different experience in terms of item placement, higher difficulty, and the extra added strategy of managing saves Ink Ribbon style via the cassettes. Not to mention the "Albert" Gun and Defensive Scroll that you get just for beating it and if you beat it in under four hours, the running shoes. These second round bonuses aren't out of place for a Resident Evil game and are more than enough to inspire multiple playthroughs for fans of the series.
