Capcom: We are moving our focus to VR

Capcom mentioned that they have done this to refocus itself on VR, with their stated reason being "the successive releases of VR devices that are highly compatible with games ... With an eye to creating a new market.

There's a demand and an interest in VR that is percolating, and Capcom is in as good a position as anyone to be the authors of its killer app.

They just said last month they were going to resurect old franchises. I hope this isnt changing. I want DMC5 and no i dont want it on VR.

RE7 on PSVR is f*cking awesome. Capcom should do this. The PSVR has sold over 750,000 units as of the end of last quarter. Heading for a million. Capcom is one of the first major companies to jump on board, and more will follow. Whether or not you care for VR matters little. It will gain traction.

man the good news for vr is rolling in this week first value said they are working on 3 vr games, them corteam said all they serious sam games will be getting a vr port plus that non-vr player can do multi-player along side vr player. Now this, man it's getting exciting to be a HMD owner

RE7 in PSVR is amazing and the broke fucboys running their mouth about VR now will be singing a different tune when you finally get to play it.

Why is this bad?

They seem to be the only company to release a VR game that isn't like a tech demo that people keep praising.

Maybe they can capitalize on that space.

This sounds like a really bad financial move for the company. It'll take a long time for VR to be affordable and wide spread if ever.

I'd hate for them to disappear. Street Fighter is one of my all time favourite franchises.

Then Capcom can continue to stay irrelevant.

DMC5 and DD2 could be here by now if theyd just set their minds to it.

I swear to God if they announce a Dino Crisis reboot but it's first person to cater to VR I will be so fucking pissed.

In my opinion, what they need is not VR games, but Mega Man Legends 3...I know it's cancelled, but I've always hoped that it might come back.

Everyone here thinking this is a bad thing I'm willing to bet has not tried RE7 on the PSVR. Try it before you knock it. It's pretty frickin cool.

Samsung Gear VR came in first for the final quarter, with PSVR in second, but you have to remember that Samsung's unit is under a hundred dollars, and is basically a phone app unit. The most expensive VR headsets sold considerably less than both Samsung VR and PSVR. There are more articles out there. And, yes, these are shipped numbers, but regardless they were sold. For VR across the board that is what is available at this time. I'll just post the first to pop up:

I find this troubling. They should be focusing on Onimusha, Darkstalkers 4, Dino Crisis, Mega Man, Breath of Fire, and Dragon's Dogma 2.

After the success of Nioh, it's about time Capcom brought back the game that inspired it, Onimusha.

That's interesting. I wonder how VR will work for some of their franchises like Monster Hunter, Phoenix Wright and Stree Fighter. I can't immediately see the application.

@reduc_ab_: the problem with VR is it's just cool and neat. It's not gonna be the main stream thing. I'm sure there will be more cool and neat experiences on VR but you can enjoy a game with out it.

Cool and neat are gimmicks and fads I.e. 3D, Wii, motion controls in general, VR, and probably AR(all though with AR it's saving grace is its functionality away from gaming).

I'm open to the idea that they can popularize the medium... however, I'm skeptical that they have the talent remaining to achieve it.
