Capcom: Wii won't be getting our mature support, cause it is kiddy to be honest.

The following comment is from Christian Svensson, Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research at Capcom…

"We have more titles coming to Wii than what’s been announced HOWEVER, I must admit, many of them (outside of RE) are not mature titles despite the fact that’s an area Capcom is known for.

By and large, we don’t see the Wii being home to an sizble mature playerbase outside of some of the early adopters. We see it as being very, very broad with a family focus (especially in Japan). If there is a “core player base” on Wii, within two years, it will be largely a younger player (far younger than 360 or PS3).

You’ll see more announcements later this year on this front."Sven, Snr Director of Strategy

Good - Capcom is supporting Wii, Bad - They have already pegged the system as having a kiddy focus. That doesn’t mean the games they put out won’t be excellent (Mega Man is for younger audiences right?), but I know a lot of people will be upset by the news. Thanks to Johnny4 for the heads up."

Gamecube was really young and not very broad at all (at least not in terms of buying habits). 6-10 males was the sweet spot, especially in the last two years of the platform lifecycle.Sven

For as good as there games are, Capcom has always been a company that makes mistakes.  They backed the Dreamcast, GC, and PSP.  Each gen they have had to eat their words and port their games to the system "winning" the gen.  This short sightedness is another example of not being able to read the market by Capcom.

It makes perfect sense from a buisness perspective....  Why on earth would you bring all these mature titles to a system, that is suppost to be a "family oriented" when you know that the mature player base is tiny as it is ? its a waste of money to any company.   So expect lots of "cutesy" & "Kiddy" type games.

And again this rob's Nintendo owners of missing out on alot of great games.  so again.....  Xbox 360 & PS3 = hardcore gamers that want a next gen experience, or Nintendo for 1st party titles only, which come out say maybe 2-3 good Nintendo games a year max, so more oriented towards the casual gamers.

I dont really care if there are so called "mature" games on the Wii or not. Whats really "mature" is realizing that gaming is about having fun, gameplay, challenge and not conforming to social norms of violence, sex, and bad overemphazized plot lines. That, son, is really whats mature.

You really believe the 'mature player base is tiny'? Why are developers bringing out 'mature' games for it then? Are you saying that those developers have no business sense because it's a waste of 'money'?

I understand the immature player base might be(come) bigger than others, but i don't see why the Wii would have a smaller mature player base? We get more great games than Nintendo 1st party titles, kiddy games can be great games too. Wii owners care little about multiplatform games anyway, especially if they offer more of the same.

For the wii it sure is.

Developers ? plz name some "mature" games coming for the Wii.   besides manhunt2.

And no I am saying that what that guy from capcom said makes perfect sense... why bring a mature game to a system with a family oriented player base, when you know it won't sell not even close to the amount that it would sell on PS3 or Xbox 360.  Its bad buisness.

Yea, I think so. Most of the people I know still looking for a Wii are 24+

Capcom's marketing needs to do some real research.

I'm way over 24 (way over) and I just got back from EB to see if they had any Wii's (of course, no).  Picked up a 4th wireless for my GC (will be play CNK later with friends) and Titan Quest.

I'll be swinging by Best Buy for more RAM.  I'll check on the Wii there too, doubt it will be available.

You people need to realize this "mature" concept thats being tossed around is just a marketing strategy trap designed to sucker people into thinking a certain way so as to maximize profits of a certain product while attacking the credibility of other products..............and you all fall for it like a bunch of mind slaves, bowing before your masters as they hand you crap and call it "mature" while you completely ignore quality products. Time to grow a brain, folks.

Agreed.

When marketing throws around these descriptions, they're targeting the people who are insecure and look for buying things to prop themselves up (kinda like the Marlboro man).  Marketing for most companies release statistics to back up their companies investments, regardless of the truth.

Sales wasn't that good as they were expecting. Other than hardcore Resident Evil fans, there are hardly enough to get $$$ from them. More PS2 owners bought the RE4 series compared to the GC owners. Now RE5 is coming to the systems that are dominated by older audience, it'll do much better there; XBOX 360 / PS3. Dead Rising did pretty good.

I'd have to say capcom is behind the times.goblaa

Capacom has had a huge year bringing both old and new IP's to the console market.  But becouse they dont have the opinion of the Wii you want them to they are "behind the times".  Witch is an ironic thing to say from where I sit becouse we are talking about the wii.

Capcom = owned. Why not jump on the Wii bandwagon? It's obviously going to sell boatloads.

Well, Nintendo has had the kiddy system the last 3 gens, no surprises here, as long as the games are fun though I could care less if they're "kiddy."  Stuff like Mario still blows away a lot of what's available.

[QUOTE="MaTT2011"]You people need to realize this "mature" concept thats being tossed around is just a marketing strategy trap designed to sucker people into thinking a certain way so as to maximize profits of a certain product while attacking the credibility of other products..............and you all fall for it like a bunch of mind slaves, bowing before your masters as they hand you crap and call it "mature" while you completely ignore quality products. Time to grow a brain, folks.jeaglegs

Agreed.

When marketing throws around these descriptions, they're targeting the people who are insecure and look for buying things to prop themselves up (kinda like the Marlboro man).  Marketing for most companies release statistics to back up their companies investments, regardless of the truth.

FFS... sometimes when they say a game is mature they just meens its mature.

The real insecurity here is all the nintendo fanbots who flip every time someone says they think the wii is kiddy.

Yes, very behind the times, and they've delivered nothing good the last couple years with more good stuff on the way.  I mean  Dead Rising, Lost Planet, DMC 4, RE 5, they suck.

I'd have to say capcom is completey right as of now there arnt any real "mature" games on the Wii. And until the mature games come and sell well capcom is not gonna change their mind.
