[QUOTE="zero_snake99"][QUOTE="washd123"]

again i said this on GT. its just terrible dev work.

theres maybe 3-4 games that have a legit reason for needing more than a dvd.

washd123

You're CLEARLY in the position to tell devs how to make their games  Crysis 1, Dirt 2, most current gen PC games are > 8gigs... They have 1 install dvd because its compressed on the disc, but consoles don't have that luxury of installing FULL games.

actually no.

crysis 1 is 6gb fully uncompressed including the editor.

warhead is less than 6gb

fallout 3 is less than 6gb

assasins creed 6gb

STALKER less than 6gb

world in conflict 6gb

thats uncompressed with all the file settings.

if those games can take up less than 8gb almost any game can. crysis has levels than are bigger than some games in their entirety. same with Fallout 3.

Wheelman requires 15 gigs. Crysis Maximum editiion is 26 gigs total. Since thats 3 games, thats an average of 8.6667 gigs per game. Still more than a DVD. I'm reading this straight off of the back of my cases. TF2 alone is 9.5gigs. Dirt 2 is 10.5 Also, open world games take up less space because the way they are made takes up less space, as opposed to a game with new assets each level.

*laughs*3d castlevania? sorry don't care I will likely not be picking it up just on that fact alone. Harmony of despair I will though.

did he say that 2 discs would be detremental to gameplay? no? then I see no problem.

exactly where you went wrong.

the minimum reqs on the back of the case have nothing to do with how big the game itself is.thats how much free space you need on your hdd. which includes room for the game files, save games, and breathing room so your hdd isnt bogged down.

crysis uncompressed is 6gb

warhead 5.8gb

fallout 3 5.9gb

thats the actual uncompressed file size on the hdd.

not to mention that includes every extra on the disk like the editor, and extra featurettes, as well as every file setting, and config.

Well I was expecting that to happen eventually... Welle xpecting more and more games to be multiple discs on the 360. Anyways who cares, as long as it's a good game.. One thigns for sure it doesn't look like any Castlevania I'VE ever seen.:P

This is most likely BS.

Just about every game that uses a huge amount of data is because of uncompressed CG videos.

The compression doesn't even hurt quality if done correctly.

Some of the best looking games like Crysis and Metro 2033 can fit on one dual layer dvd.

Yes, but they are letting you install teh 2nd disc and stream it off teh first, so theyre no disc swapping. So its not biggie to me. Ill get which ever one is better. they did say PS3 had slower loads. what that means we can tell until the game comes out.

BTW The article is on gamesradar.com http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/castlevania-lords-of-shadow/news/kojima-not-to-blame-for-two-disc-360-version-of-castlevania-lords-of-shadow/a-20100802102553475050/g-2009060316201868024

I can't believe there are some lemmings on Here saying that games don't need to be more then 6gb. Dragon age origins on the PC is 20gb and the 360 version suffered from poor textures because there wasn't enough room on the disc. PS3 version had no problem because discs are up to 50gb in size. I am in no way saying that disc swapping is bad, in fact I am gals they are doing it, it means that the 360s disc limitations aren't holding the game back. I would be pissed if they cut the game to 6.7gb though. Larger size game equals more art assets which equals more variety it's a good thing people. Crysis was on 6gb because it repeated a ton of art assets same with farcry2 (4gb). Large disc space games, it's about damn time devs stopped cattering to the 360 6.7gb limit and made bigger multiplats!Midnightshade29

You are wrong......the PS3 games are mostly large in data because of uncompressed videos.

Just look at the port of the Star Wars the Force Unleashed game for the PC and it's large amount of data is in cg videos.

This was a port from the PS3 version.

I think 3D Castlevania is just about as laughable as Harmony of Despair which uses sprites from about each castlevania games and there is only six chapters....each 30 mins long really now?

Here is a few examples of non open world games.

Majority of games these days don't use CG videos for other than intro movies. FF13 is an exception of course. For example, all of Crysis, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, MGS4, Halo 3, were all done in engine. It saves a lot of space.

I love when people talk about things they have no clue about. Both Fallout and Crysis use the same assets over and over again hence many of Crysis backrounds and settings look very similar .If you read correctly Castlevania is not reusing its assets therefore it takes far more memory then Crysis .

I personally hate discs. Thats why I mainly play my PC. All of my stuff is digitally downloaded (sans a few games) but the times have changed, and so have standards. For example, some movies used to come on multiple VHS tapes, now, you wont find a movie thats split into multiple dvd's. Just because 4 CD's were ok for the FF games etc, doesn't mean next gen using 4 dvds is acceptable, because its not. It's expensive to do, and takes a lot of space.

Yeah, I heard this awhile back. PS3 is the lead platform as well and I have that version pre-ordered. It really is not a big deal for those getting it on the 360, though. A couple of seconds to switch the disk should not really bother anyone.

people still seem to forget the days of multiple discs on other consoles in the past. its not that big of a deal. its not even really an argument or a shot at 360 anymore. we all know it already that if you push it to far than your going to have to perhaps add another disc on the 360. ms chose against fully supporting a new format. Guess what their sales are better than their original console.

Exactly, like with many games. So any inconvenience factor raised is probably eradicated by that alone. It's not a big issue tbh.

assassin creed 2 is only 5 or 6 gb when installed and it is one of the best looking games this gen it all about how producers program there games. also crysis is only 5 gb or 3 gb if u download the torrent

I already said, for the 100th time, open world games are smaller in size due to reused assets and procedurally created environments. Also, Crysis is 5.6 gigs. I don't know how big torrents of games are because I only use torrents for open source distribution. Like I mentioned before Dirt 2 is one of the best looking games out right now, and its over 10 gigs.

It could be on 10 discs for all I care. We all know that one advantage Sony has over Microsoft's 360 is Bluray. While it is a hurdle, I don't think it is that big of a obstacle yet. Mass Effect 2 shipped on 2 discs, and that is one of my favorite titles. By the time it becomes a valid issue, Microsoft will probably be on board with it's next console.

Swapping a disc takes like 15 seconds... WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT SWAPPING DISCS THIS GEN????!!! That is one of if not the worst thing I've ever seen fanboys harbour on.

What's the big deal? It's archaic, that's what. Other than a 360 game, when was the last time you swapped discs? Not even full featured movies have multiple DVDs. I think there was 1 game for PS2 with 2 discs, but I may be wrong. In a time of technical advancements and ever-expanding storage, having to switch discs is something of the past. If I didn't have a choice, I'd do it, but like I said, it's a thing of the past.

Mass Effect 2 is not large if you take away all the languages but your own.

You can make it easily fit on one disc and still have a lot of space.

The lack of a Blu-ray drive on the Xbox 360 is working to the console's disadvantage. That's the message Mercury Steam boss David Cox had for Microsoft when showcasing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The new Konami title will ship on two Xbox 360 discs when it's released, compared to a single Blu-ray for the PlayStation 3 version. Cox said that the "storage problem" is due to the game's length - 24 hours - and unique art assets for each level. "Microsoft actually sent their tech guys to the studio to see the game and look at [how we're] compressing it, but they said: 'Okay, it's good. You're doing all you can'," Cox told Xbox World 360 (via CVG). "I think it's something Microsoft are going to experience more and more - that they need to help developers overcome the storage problem." He outlined that both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have their share of "issues... but you have to work around them." The solution Mercury Steam is using involves offering an installation option within the first disc on the Xbox 360 version, so that players can enjoy the entire game by simply loading the second disc. Disadvantage? What? How? If the number of discs inside the packaging is playing THAT big of a role in your decision to purchase then you need your head examined.

What are cows complaining about? PC gamers has been swaping disk for long without compains. Blue ray disk is not realy necessary this gen since hdd size is hugely increasing in consoles all devs need to do is use installation method like pc.The xbox 360 would'nt have been so cheap if microsoft had included blue ray drive to the console. Crysis is still the current most stunning game overall yet it did'nt filled up 8gb dvd. There is no swaping disk for xbox 360 castlevania, just install the disk 2 to hdd then play the whole game through with disk 1. This game will own GOD of WAR in every aspect.

I love when people talk about things they have no clue about. Both Fallout and Crysis use the same assets over and over again hence many of Crysis backrounds and settings look very similar .If you read correctly Castlevania is not reusing its assets therefore it takes far more memory then Crysis .

TheSterls

maybe fallout 3

but youve never played crysis have you?

even if everything looks similar doesnt mean theyre the same. hell in a given space theres at least 30-40 different geometries for the same type of tree.

i read the article unlike most people i prefer not to make an uninformed comment

Bu bu but Blu-Ray isn't needed. Have fun having to swap discs to play theSAME game.

zero_snake99

Again, it's not a big deal, yea if you could skip it that's cool, but harbouring on it like it's some big amount of effort to switch a disc once during a game that last 24 hours is seriously silly. Stick to bashing the pay to play online, the cheap hardware and expensive accessories imo.

Well to me this is a good thing because it means the game will have some bulk to it either in time, massive variety, or both.

Ms must be charging a lot for the extra disc if Dev's are complaining about space

Castlevania is a linear game so whats the problem with two disc's

Lost planet 2 was also a linear game that would of worked on two disc's if capcom didn't want to cut content. How about one disc for campain and another for muiltiplayer

LOL. This is getting pathetic. The only reason multiple discs are a problem nowadays is because the PS3 has bigger medium storage and generally only needs one disc. Yet, no one seemed to care on the PS2 or PS1 when it was multiple discs.

I would much rather be in Microsoft's position and have smaller disc space then having complicated hardware that devs won't even create games for.

2 dual layer dvds can still be cheaper than 1 blu ray dvd.

Except for the... you know... FEE that Microsoft charges for each extra disc for the game.

Ummmmm. Harmony of Despair won't be on any discs. It's an xbox live game. Also, it will certainly be better than Lords of Shadow, because we all know that 3d castlevania games suck.

Kojima's involvement has me slightly interested.
